Great, but took awhile
Course was wet due to a lot of recent rain, but was still in excellent condition. Only negative thing to say was the pace of play was really bad, took about 5-5 1/2 hours to complete the round. Pretty much had to wait to hit every shot. Multiple groups waiting to tee off on pretty much every hole. Never seen it this bad here, clubhouse attendant did come by on the 8th tee box and apologized for the delay so they were aware. Other than that it was excellent and will play again in the near future.
Great Course
Fun course, lots of dog legs. Not your typical hit driver 14 times off the tee. Was in good condition despite getting a ton of rain. Definitely will play there again.
Great Course, Overbooked
I really like this course but this time around it was just completely overbooked. It wasn't an especially great day but it was nice enough to get the golfers out. Every hole was completely jammed with 4-somes, no one was letting anyone play through. I was playing alone and typically everyone allows me to play through, not a single offer so after sitting for a very long time. I decided to skip a couple of holes until I saw any kind of clearing. That took me through the entire front 9 after playing the 1st two holes. By the time I made the turn I was able to play through a 4 some and then had green grass in front of me. None of the tee boxes were marked at all, so you essentially had no idea where to tee off. I'm hoping this isn't the norm for the warm months, because I've only played here in the winter if it is I won't be able to make the drive to Alton to enjoy it. Overall, the course layout is great, it's challenging but not discouraging. Again, I like the course but if this is normal I'll be heading elsewhere.
Winter golf
Course was in great shape for the middle of February. Greens were a little slow but so are everyone else's around here this time of the year. Pro shop had all apparel and shoes at 1/2 off the already discounted price....where else could I get a new pair of Footjoy's for $35
Good course, pace of play not so much
This was our first time playing this course and it was the first day of Winter so you need to take that into account (course conditions, etc). I have a feeling it is a pretty nice course in good weather, but the pace of play today was not good. We were a twosome sandwiched between a very slow foursome in front of us a very fast foursome behind us which made it very unenjoyable on the back nine. We got a great rate on GolfNow so I can’t complain too much. We’ll try it again someday in good weather when maybe they have a ranger?
Great Track
Really a great course, I enjoyed the layout quite a bit. I think the consistency in a greens was really special. You don't often have them rolling the same speed throughout a round, but the greens were great. The park where the course is located is really nice, no houses, no cars, just you and the golf course. Not a ton of hazards throughout the course, but from what I've heard it's usually windy. It's typically a pretty decently expensive course so I won't play here often but I'd love to.
Hidden Gem in Alton, IL
Always a pleasure to play, fantastic course conditions all of 2017, friendly staff, reasonable rates- thinking about getting membership for 2018.
Great Course
Consistently one of the best courses we play. Awesome layout and always in good condition.
Great layout
Awesome course. Couldnt be more pleased with this place. Price was right. Challenging layout. Have to be in fairway to shoot lower scores. Theres alot of hidden shot placement you have to get used to. Green were fast but fair. Will be back in near future. Guy working alone that day was awesome and gave some pointers on certain holes which lead to a couple birdies for me. The only thing that could use more attention is my game
Top 5 public course in the metro STL area
Slow pace of play is the only negative issue out here. The golf course is always in good shape and the layout is creative and full of variety.
Great Course
Great layout, nice course. Good value when priced under $30. Greens were marked due to use, but they were rolling well. Course is solid and has a lot of variety. One of the better public courses around st. louis.
1 of the best in Southern IL
This Arnold Palmer gem has been in fantastic shape all this year. Even with all the golf outings they have here, it has been in great shape all season long. I've played this course several times this year, and have been pleased every single time. Will be back again for sure.
1 of the best in Southern IL
This Arnold Palmer course has always been a favorite, and among the best in the area with Gateway, Stonewolf, Annbriar and Far Oaks. This year, the course is in phenomenal shape from teeboxes to the greens. So glad to see this gem still shine, and I plan to play Arnie's course a bunch more before 2018.
Needs New Managemen
Upone arriving to Spencer T. Olin, it was raining, heavily from a "pop-up" thunderstorm. The storm passed within 20 minutes, but we were greeted at the door with "course is closed, and you'll have to contact golf now to get your money back."
Clearly, Mary, who runs the office did not want us to play. I responded by saying "we'll wait until the storm passes." She was very rude and unpolite. Her response was, 'you'll have to wait 30 minutes because of the lightnight." I don't mind course rules, etc., but the tact with which this person treats patrons at Spencer t. Olin is very unkind to say the least. I was a member there last year and chose not to renew my membership because of the customer service of the staff. Really enjoy playing this course, but dealing with the front office is a pain in the neck at this place, and I will most likely not come back.
