Outstanding golf experience
Very enjoyable round, course is very well maintained, staff is friendly. 9th hole on white is 500 plus with water left, right and in front of the green. A great way to finish.
Well Conditioned
Overall the course is very well maintained with really nice fairways. Grasses were all the proper length and most of the traps were in pretty decent shape. Greens were fairly smooth except we played in the later afternoon behind a bunch of extremely slow groups who didn't pick up their feet well around the cups. Despite starting out almost a 1/2 hour behind them our round took close to 5 hours....unacceptable and again it was the typical idiots playing the wrong tees taking 3 or 4 shots just to reach the green on a par 3! The fine conditioning of the course somewhat made up for that. The course can be tight in some areas with the housing but it plays fair and provides a reasonable challenge and more so when it's windy. A fairly flat somewhat "contrived" design but an enjoyable play at least one or twice a year. Also a good value because you can usually get on it if you plan properly for $30 give or take. Driving range with separate chipping green, sand practice area and putting green as pluses. Dated locker room with showers. Decent food beverage post round. Anticipate a solid 4 star experience but likely a 5 hour plus round on weekends mainly due to the white nine finishing holes. Recommended.
Not bad, but not great either
9 am tee time on a Sunday. At 3rd hole, had to wait, then proceeded to wait about 10 more times during the round for the group in front of us. The course was extremely wet.
All Good except pace of play
I like this course. I like to play here. It's always in good shape, and on this day, surprisingly good given the terrible storms the day prior. There was some standing water, and an occasional flooded trap, but much less than expected.
But the pace of play was horrendous. Five and one half hours for a round that started at 11:30 am. And no one seemed to be out on the course to determine why, or to push people along.
That said, it was an anomaly for this course, and it won't keep me from coming back.
The Fairways & Tees were nice!
Aerated Greens are quite annoying!!! Putting is at least 1/3 of your strokes every round. It's no fun when you can't control that portion of your round! This is 2 rounds in a row that I booked with Golf Now that have had Aerated greens. I'm not happy...
Carillon Golf in Plainfield, Il
We had a great experience playing golf at Carillon and the weather was perfect. Really like this course as it is perfect for the average golfer and still can be challenging to the low handicap golfer. Course is in great shape.
reliable, good value
Choose Links of Carrolin because by far their course gas been in the best shape this year. We llayed it in January, February, and April. The greens have been excellent rolling pure. So guess our surprise when we approach the 1st green on the Red Course. Yup they were aerated.
Oh well it still was fun.
Nice
Great place with a good pace. Interesting and in great shape. One of my faves.
Links at Carillon
Course was a bit soggy but overall in good condition. Got the round completed in a little time over 3 hours. Staff was polite and friendly.
Good value
Great deal on last minute golfer. Early spring rains have done a job on some sand traps. But that's spring time in Illinois.
fair test of golfing skills
Only reasons I did not give four stars on course conditions were some greens showed a lot of winter damage and several of the sand traps were undergoing new drainage installations.
The missing Link
If you are looking for a great links style course The Links of Carillon is what you are looking for. Several challenging holes, great staff and the hots dogs at the snack shack are HUGE!
Well Maintained Course!
Great course! Well manicured! Office are friendly and the Manager also! The starters are a problem some are picky on Golf Cart numbers and times. A few starters were rude around the turn!
One of the better conditioned courses this year!
Many courses in Chicago this year have been stressed by the weather - hot, very humid, excessive rain, etc. However, this course was really in nice shape. Greens, fairways and tee boxes all nice. Some traps need some attention, though. Carillon is also a nice layout - some challenges but nothing excessively difficult. The weather this day was great and we finished our round in less than 3.5 hours - great pace. Friendly staff - and one of the largest $4 golf course hot dogs at the snack shop you'll ever see! Oh... and hole #9 on the White course is one intimidating look off the tee! Great test-of-skills hole - very challenging. Optional bailout far right - but then... long forced carry over water on second shot. This is a tough one! - from any of the tee boxes!
The Links of Carillon
We played the Red & White 9's.
The course was in good shape. It is a very interesting layout. The amenities were okay. The cart person was trying to cover three 9 hole courses. She was very nice. Just spread a bit thin. The pace of play was typical for a Sunday about 4.5 hours. We signed up as a two-some and were paired up with a husband & wife. We made the turn in 2:10 and played a little slower on the 2nd nine. Overall a nice staff at Carillon and a good layout.
