Foxford Hills Golf Club

I've lived in the Chicago area for 20+ years, but I had never heard of this gem of a course in Cary until I saw a Hot Deal on Golf Now. It takes a while to get there, but this is a wonderful layout with some of the fastest greens I've played in a while. The course is set in a housing community, but they are set far enough away from the course that they aren't too intrusive. The greens are very undulating and fast, so even if you do get on the green in regulation, you still can bogey the hole very easily. The only issue I had was the slow play. I played as a single and was stuck behind a few extremely slow groups, who had no intention of letting anyone play through them. There was a starter on the 1st tee, but no ranger on the course to make sure people were playing at a decent pace or to encourage them to let others play through. This is something that is becoming FAR too common these days and it makes rounds last much longer than they need to. Love the course, but not sure I'll go back if the rounds last over 5 hours even on a week day.

This is a must play for avid holders...loved the layout. Lots of challenges but it doesn't feel overbearing. Will definitely play again!

The course was in great shape and was a timely tee off. Slow play created delays.

Foxford Hills is a very challenging course. What makes it challenging are its undulating fairways, water obstacles, and undulating greens.

Most fairways are fairly expansive. However, the fairway bunkers are well placed and force you to take notice.

My biggest disappointments were with the sand traps and the pace of play. The sand was too hard and the pace of play was very slow. When I approached a ranger about speeding things up he said everyone was on pace. However, when two foursomes are on the tee box waiting to hit on a par 4 and this happens consistently, there's no way the pace of play is normal. I got so frustrated I left the course after the fifteenth hole.

Anyway, this is a very nice course to play and I would recommend it with a pace of play warning.

Played here a dozen times over the past few years and enjoy the challenge. Course conditions are consistently good. Today was too slow for a Monday. 4:45! Ranger came by and told us the course was set up for a 4:32 round and we should be happy to play in under 5 hours. WRONG!

Really a fantastic course to play. Great layout and very challenging for all golfers. The only issue we had was there were allowed too many twosomes to go out which slowed things down quite a bit. A marshall should have had other twosomes pair up at the tee box when they were waiting. Other then that, a great place to play for the money, I highly recommend this course.

Thank you to the Foxford Hills Golf Club staff for a fun and challenging day on the course and the tough pins we faced on the greens. We love this scramble! Fast greens with cups in tough places makes you feel like a pro once your done. The scramble was amazing and was well worth the challenges we faced on the greens. Fun! Fun! Fun!

The food - steak sandwiches and fries was a classy touch at the end not to mention the prize drawing! Awesome day!

I have driven by this course many times and have wanted to play went on to website and saw the price of $80 so have not played saw deal on Golf Now for $40 so grabbed the deal and played. Great course just play to much golf to spend $80 per round. Thanks for the deal and a chance to play this excellent challenging course

There was rain damage on the course. The greens were less consistent this time out.

Can't believe I've lived-in this area 14 years and have not played this course yet. I will definitely be back, and will look forward to improving my score (went for a lot of things I shouldn't have, course knowledge really helps!)

Staff was friendly, didn't partake of the after round beer as I needed to run.

All of the holes have their own names, the fairways seem open but the trees and traps sneak up on you, and the greens are undulating and fast - awesome.

I'm a big fan of Foxford Hills GC. This course will challenge every aspect of your game all day long. You must be accurate off the tee, be able to drive the ball with some distance, have a sharp iron game, and be a great putter in order to score well here.

In my opinion, the cost of the round is worth just putting on the greens alone. Yes, they get marked up pretty bad towards the end of the year because people are too lazy to repair their ball marks, but for the most part, they are in excellent shape. They are fast and have numerous ridges and levels throughout the green complexes. I'm a believer that if you can putt well here, every other course will feel like the greens are all flat and straight. I hover around an 11 handicap and my short game is usually what carries me. When playing my last round at Foxford, I probably 3 putted at least 5 or 6 holes.

Outside of the greens, the rest of the course is no pushover. OB, water, narrow fairways, and mature trees come into play on almost every hole. There are also several holes that are a forced carry into the greens. Holes 12 and 13 are different in that they have a very large bunkers surrounding the greens. It makes for a picturesque and intimidating tee shot all at the same time.

If it is your first time playing Foxford, the scorecards have a diagram of every hole. Pay attention to the diagrams as they can be key to keeping you out of trouble off of the tee.

Last time I played here, I enjoyed it so much (even with the 3 putts) that my buddy and I went back out to play another 9 holes. The pace of play was excellent but we did go out around 8 in the morning on a weekday. An easy recommendation to make is to swallow your pride and play up a set of tees the first time you play here. I've never played from the tips and the gold tees (6618 yards) are quite the challenge themselves.

Definitely worth the drive from wherever you are coming from around Chicago. I can't wait to get back out there and play it again.

There was a 4 some ahead of us that played terribly slow and didn't let anyone play through. Had to wait on nearly every hole. No ranger to speed them up either. The course is nice but it could be nicer. There was a great course layout but the course had a lot of divots on the tee boxes & greens that could have been taken care of a bit better to make it a 4 star course. Additionally there were no water jugs on the course, just water fountains that barely worked sparsely located throughout the course. It was in the upper 80's so that was a bit annoying on a hot day. I would definitely play there again. Weekday hot deal was for $31 which is about right the right price based on my experience at the course.

First time, I've played Foxford in a while and it was in very fine condition. The staff does a great job with taking care of the customers. The course itself is in very good condition for tee to green. I'd say the best attribute of Foxford Hills is the course lay-out. There truly are some really fun holes here which make you decide which club to take off the tee box as well as how you want to attack the hole.

3 stars for this day. Unfortunately Foxford suffers from slow play consistently especially on the back nine with groups definitely playing the wrong tees. Two very slow moving couples in a foursome held the entire course up (on the thirteenth as we pulled up the tee box this snail group just finishing so there were 15 golfers on a par 3 hole!!) with two wide open holes in front of this group (a par 4 and a par 5). Called the clubhouse and they did nothing....a 3 hour plus back nine completely unacceptable when the front was clocked in at 2:03. This is a very challenging course for high handicappers and the green speeds as well as some of the flag positions (very borderline for even experienced players with course knowledge) contributed greatly to the slow play. Due to the lack of rain the greens have been over watered and as a result there are a plethora of ball marks (many not repaired) and scuff marks/spike marks by people that can't be bothered to pick up their feet. Several fairways laced with unfilled divots or even marginal attempts to replace them. Had some bumpy putts....not fun when you're dealing with 11 plus stimp speeds. Sand trap maintenance was "okay" but could be sketchy.....and how about kicking the sand of your shoes before you walk stones all over the green? If people actually took good care of this course and the rangers enforced a proper pace of play this would easily be a four star plus venue.....for me this place is trending downward unfortunately.

Versatile layout and tees allow for a challenge for any level golfer at a good price.

Great golf course. Problem with playing golf on Fathers Day, 5.5 hour round. Look forward to playing the course again and finishing in 4 hours.

It started out slow and got slower . 5/1/2 hour round . Booked a 2 some and was was sent off the tee with another 2 some. We used three different tees. It was not a good round.

The course was in excellent condition, but the pace of [play ruined what could have been a great time. More than 5 hours, to me, is unacceptable for a weekday round.

The course is under new ownership and is now way over priced. I could see the prices being raised had they made significant changes to the layout, or had they improved the overall conditions of the course (the greens remind me of the surface of the moon). I've seen no improvements to the course to justify the prices from going in the Mid $40's peak time, peak season to the near $70 they want now. Overall, its a decent track, but I feel you can find better value at other area courses like Prairie Isle or Blackstone.

I'll play Foxford again once their prices either come back to earth, or they make improvements to justify the top dollar rates they want.

Been playing this course for years. Having played many courses in Illinois this is in my top 10 local courses for sure. Its drains well after rains, it is kept in nice condition, and the layout is really cool. Bring a few extra balls, there are some tricky holes.
