Nice Course, horrible carts
This is a decent course with a pretty good layout, and in decent condition. Some of the fairways were rock hard, so they could use some water. Greens were running pretty fast, but people don't repair ball marks on this course. TONS of ball marks all over the green.
I had two issues with this course:
1) Hole #15 used to be one of the more challenging par 5's in Chicagoland, because there was a huge tree on the left side of the fairway. That meant you couldn't just grip it and rip it. That tree is now gone, either because of disease, weather, or more likely, to make the hole easier for average players. Now, what was once a great hole is now mediocre, at best. The green is protect by water in front, but you have no obstacles whatsoever to ripping it as hard as you can. Then, you can either play short with a wedge, or go for it. Very blah hole, now.
2) No GPS on carts, so bring your own!! There are very few distance plates, and you only have the distance poles in the fairway to figure out distances. 90% of our shots were strictly guesses, based on the locations of the poles. Pretty cheap when they can't afford to put GPS on carts, which limits them from ever being anything more than just a decent park district course.
Best Course in Chicago Area
This round was a little slow because of the heavy rain the previous night, but this course is the best value in the Chicago area. The last six holes are as good a finishing set of holes as anything in this area.
Great course!
Was raining when we got there so waited for an hour at the clubhouse. But the course is very fun, every hole is little different and creates a different challenge for each hole. The greens were fairly fast which I prefer. However, people need to repair their ball marks, it's just unfortunate a quality course like this have lazy who can't repair ball marks. In the end, I will definitely come up here and play again.
True Hidden Gem
My foursome ran across this course on golf now and after playing there once it's now a regular in our rotation. It has a fair but challenging layout with some really great holes! 15-18 is as good of a finishing stretch that you'll find anywhere. The greens were in great condition as well. They rolled well with good speed and they were receptive to well played shots(even long and mid irons). I'm a pretty solid ten and the others in my foursome are single digits and we had a blast. If you're looking for a new course that has great value and great layout this is it!
Enjoyable layout
Overall good experience, but could definitely use more sprinkler head distance markings, or MUCH BETTER would be to put reflectors on the pins for LaserLink guns or other range finders. Not an expensive proposition......would speed up play and make for a more enjoyable round.
Course is in very good shape
We had great weather and the pace was good. The only issue is the greens are riddled with ball marks. People need to repair their ball marks on the greens. Great course overall!
Good First Time
Very good experience for first time. The starters were very nice and the course in good shape. The course was challenging but not unfair.
If I had one complaint, it would be pace of play. It took us almost 5 hours for 18. I am not sure why.
Nice course slow play
Foxford is a fun, challenging course to play. The course and clubhouse are well maintained and in very good shape.
Course itself is almost like a links course. Somewhat narrow fairways and fast greens. For those of you who like a challenge with sand around holes and dedicated spots on the fairways, play this course. Only hit into two traps, but they were deep with high edges.
The only downside is that the pace of play is very slow. During our round, there was always a wait to tee off and shoot to the green. Two gentlemen, who we joined up on the back nine and have played the course several times, stated it is backed up quite allot.
All in all, a very good course to play and will definitely play again.
Challenging
Great layout.Hilly which can lead to difficult lies.
Father's Day 2015 - Some greens w/fungus
This is a terrific layout with large fairways and scenic holes. The greens have grain so be sure to learn how to read it as putts will vary in speed by several feet depending on it. Currently, there are many greens with silver dollar sized dead spots due to fungus infiltration. Before playing, I would contact the course and determine if it is still a problem. Multiple tees will appeal to all levels of play.
Tell players to refrain from cell phone use except for emergency situations while golfing with others!
Everything was good, except when we were asked by the starter to catch up and join up with the two some in front of us, which was no problem and we did on the 4th hole. We were very distracted by the two ladies conducting business on their cell phones for 15 holes. So much for concentrating on you game :-( with phones wringing and lots of talking . Have never experienced this before. I guess they did not care about others that were out for a golf round! They should have stayed in the office for the day, not the golf course!
Good value
Rain before we started but the course was in excellent condition..the greens were a little spotty w/ fungus but they were in good shape
Staff Unfriendly/More than Foursomes Allowed
Since last year the staff has become unfriendly. I am treated as though I do not matter. I played a 4 hour round in a foursome and was told we were not quick enough because we did not keep up with the group ahead of us (a threesome). This year I was stuck behind a fivesome. We caught up with the fivesome on 10. We were not allowed to pass and the back nine took 2 1/2 hours. When I complained I was told the fivesome were regulars and they were on pace. Lesson learned: check before heading out or booking as to whether or not a fivesome is ahead of you.
Nice course poor experience
We went through three carts, one had a bad wheel, one died on the 16th tee. There was obviously no ranger because we had a group in front of us that was at least two holes ahead of us when we started and had 4 groups behind us waiting by the 6th hole.
Signature holes
Beautiful course! There are at least five holes which could be considered a "signature hole" on this (one of my favorite) track. It has a number of tee boxes to suit any level of play. I wouldn't recommend the championship tees unless you have a #=|| of a drive though. At 7000+ yards they are quite challenging. All in all its a beautiful, very well maintained, challenging yet fair course. I'd play there any day.
Great layout
Nice layout. Great hole to hole variability. Difficultly of course depends greatly on which tees you play from, so choose wisely
First round of the year.
Great course and you have to hit the greens. Conditions were fine for the beginning of the year. Always windy but adds to the challenge.
Great layout, back nine completely different from the front!
Well maintain course, enjoyed the layout and the challenge. Will defiantly recommend and play again soon.
