Amazing Conditions
Heron Glen is always in good shape but I was amazed at how great it was for early September. Fairways were perfect, greens excellent and real sand in the bunkers. Highly recommend
Slow
A single went out. Then a 4 some. We had a 3 some and after seeing the 4 some tee off I inquired - prefaced it by saying it’s a long shot, but could we go off the back ?
Were told the back is crowded which did make sense as we had a 2.50 tee time.
The 4 some held us up throughout..
Maybe allowing us to tee off before the 4 some would have been wise,
A 4 some behind us, of course, was waiting on us.
Best public course in area
Fairies and greens and tees all in great shape and the golf course is beautiful
Always a treat.
Play this course. Nothing else needs to be said, only reason it didn’t get five stars this time is because it was punched and they gave me a free voucher for a sandwich or hot dog. I unfortunately chose the sandwich. Don’t choose the sandwich. Otherwise. Always a pleasure
Great course in excellent condition
Heron Glen is a beautiful golf course and is always in excellent condition. The layout is challenging but not to the point where it is frustrating for most players. There are a few holes that are really difficult, but if you are a high handicap player, you just need to play smart on those holes and eliminate pretty much any chance for a par on those holes.
My only complaint is that the starters at Heron Glen are not very friendly. For this time playing, I was a single paired with another single. Although we did not know each other, the started told us to share a cart and gave us no explanation for having to do so. We then noticed that a lot of players in groups behind us had singles in multiple carts. Very frustrating!!
Great shape!!
The weather has effected so many courses but the staff here is doing a great job
From tees to greens the course is in great shape without brown dry patches that have affected other courses
Great track
Beautiful course in very good condition. Communication needs to be a little better.
The only real bad thing I can say is people need to fix their ball marks. Couple of holes could use bells because you cannot see the landing area and it's hard to tell if the group ahead is gone
Top course in NJ . Must play!
This course is my pick for top public course in NJ. Everything is excellent from condition to layout to staff etc. It is a must play if your get the chance to play it.
Great course
Great course and conditions. Hard to get a tee time if not a resident but great track.
Beautiful views, Nice layout
I’ll start by saying how nice it was to pull into the parking lot to see a large group of jr golfers taking part in the First Tee Program. I found it tough to find an employee to help guide me to the pro shop or to cart my clubs but after a few minutes, I found my way.
The pro shop staff were friendly, welcoming & courteous. I purchased a token for range balls & was a bit disappointed to be hitting off mats when there is an extensive grass hitting area but that didn’t take away of my first impressions to offset my mood.
When I checked in with the starter, he moved my tee time up to “right now” with a splendid group of people. Bob, Gary & Karen, thanks for an enjoyable round. If every group I get paired with as a single player were close to the class of you, I’d never complain again.
As for the course, it was in fantastic shape. The tee boxes, fairways & greens were consistent . A bit on the slow side but my guess would be that the course was readying itself for the extreme heat that is arriving this week. I was only in two bunkers, but I took notice of how well they were manicured. All in great shape with only a few where players didn’t take them. The pace of play was consistent with what you might find at a private exclusive course. We didn’t have to wait on any hole. If this is the norm, kudos to the management staff for setting a phenomenal pace of play.
The sights at this course are breathtaking. Silos, hills, (ok minus the power lines) in the background actually gave me a reason to forget the occasional bad shot.
Being a longer hitter & playing the course for the first time left me in a few bad places after what I thought were good shots(blue/white tees are too close for me to hit driver on most holes but what fun is hitting hybrid or iron on every hole? So of course I hit driver and lost 3 balls).
I will return in the fall (I’m sure the changing leaves will only enhance the views and the measure this course offers) and I will play from the back tees to get the true test of what Heron Glen has to offer.
The off course amenities I gave a 4 for for one reason: food choice. Only hotdogs & ham sandwiches. No turkey or non beef/pork options left me a bit hungry by the end of the round sinceI do not eat hotdogs or pork. I’m sure those of you that eat what was offered would rate that a 5. The cart girl was friendly & she was around enough to make sure nobody became victim to the heat. I will say that the water coolers on the back nine were empty by the time our group arrived so that retracted from my rating too.
Do I recommend this course? Absolutely! This was as honest of an appraisal that I could give.
It was worth the 1 1/2 hour drive from the shore to play and as I mentioned, I will be back in the fall.
HeronGlen Great Course
Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Course CB is in great shape. Tremendous value for a great course. It was one of those days where the temperature was 95+. Ranger came a round with towels soaked in ice every 4 or 5 holes.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
I’m not sure of you exact situation but most courses would require you to share a cart regardless if you know the person or not. Having 4 carts on a hole simply because each golfer doesn’t know each other doesn’t make good business sense. At times. Starters will allow multiple carts for 2 people because some are only playing 9 holes and they don’t want play to slow down at the turn. That could have been the case for the golfers behind you.
