It's Good There
Heron Glens is good there SZN.
Tee boxes, greens, cart girl, bunkers -- it's all mint. Nothing chewy,
We will go back and go low again. I mean, real low. Greens under attack. Aaaa-nnd attack !
Prepare yourself for a looooooong round
Guys at the check in area didn’t even move to help with our clubs. “Just take any cart.” Teed off on time and then waited at Every. Single. Hole. Sometimes a third group would be pulling up. Our round was 5+ hours. It was ridiculous. No marshall to be found. In the pro shop checking in I heard them telling someone to go to hole 8 and warn the group to speed it up. They were 2 holes behind! 2 holes!!! . Like make your tee times further apart. 10 minutes is clearly not enough. We kept getting warnings on the gps to speed it up. 12 minutes behind, 22 minutes behind, 33 minutes behind. Yea we get it…not our fault!!! For what we pay, you can do better.
Good condition
Went out early, pace of play great until back nine. Called club house and they sent ranger immediately, impressive. Staff helpful and friendly. Handful of traps not raked but it was early still. Challenging layout, greens in really good shape.
Worth a visit
I play Neshanic five times a year and wanted to come back to Heron Glen. It’s a really nice course and more challenging than the 126 slope rating. Highly recommend.
Heard a lot and was not impressed
It was cart path only which made the pace of play horrendous but there was not a ranger in sight to help out all the old timers putzing around the course who were just slow as heck and not being smart like bringing a wedge and putter and then walking all the way back for the putter or some other inefficient scenario causing even longer delays. What really got me though was the amount of crab grass and weeds in the fringe around the greens. I have heard so much about this course and paid a lot of money to almost lose my ball multiple times in the crab grass fringes of multiple greens not just one or two. It was pretty and a nice setup but basic greens keeping seems to be lacking there
Still Top Public Course in NJ.. Awesome
Heron Glen really takes care of their golfers. Place is in great shape. Traps are same as any private course in NJ if not better. Fairways are wide and in top shape, They let the rough grown in nice and fescue etc great shape. Greens were really in top condition. Tee Boxes most were in in good shape some had a little wear from play. Branden in pro shop nice guy, starter Alan nice guy. Overall great course and staff. This place is the top public golf course in NJ. Must play if you are a golfer. You will really enjoy this layout.
Friendly staff, well organized and maintained course. Wide fairways, lots of bunkers, few trees, no water. Slow pace of play, almost 5 hours on a Thursday afternoon. Saw 2 slow walkers a few groups ahead that held everyone up. Did not see a ranger. Nice course but showed wear and tear from too much play on tee boxes, fairways and greens.
It’s been a while
It’s been a while since I last played Heron Glen. Last time I played they still had a trailer for a clubhouse. Had a chance to play this past Wednesday. When I first pulled in, I was a little concerned being they were ready to send out a golf outing. I was thinking 6 hour round. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Finished 4 hours 10 min and never had to wait on a hole. Staff were so nice and accommodating. Starter, think his name is Clarence has a great personality. The course has matured considerably since I last played. Also nice hitting out of sand traps that actually had good sand quality. Course is fair, plays true, greens in good condition for all the play it gets. Definitely looking forward to playing there again soon. They really know what they’re doing at Heron Glen.
Hero Glen
Hern Glen is one of the nicest public courses in the area.
Heron Glen
The course gets a 4.5. despite previous day rains, the course drained well and was in great condition. Fairways and rough were cut. Rough was cut at a playable level. Plenty of bunkers which I found and probably the best sand conditions for any public course in NJ. A few difficult holes that require carry over 50 yds of scrub. The only improvement needed were on the white tees. Not up to par with the rest of the course and a couple were slightly slanted and not level. Other than that, a great clubhouse and all staff were great.
Played here a Long Long time ago
Staff was friendly, polite, & helpful. Course was in EXCELLENT shape considering the hot, wet, humid conditions we've had recently.Played here about 15 yrs ago & was pleasantly surprised how mush it has improved & developed in that time period.
I will definitely return later this year & put this in my rotation a few times each year
Quality Course
This was my second time playing this course. The first time was about 4–5 years ago, and I loved it—but since it was far from where I lived at the time, I never made it back.
Now that I live about eight hours south, I decided to stop nearby on my way north to New York to visit friends and family. After driving for 8.5 hours and getting a good nights rest at a nearby hotel, I played Heron Glen before finishing the final two hours of the trip. Totally worth it.
This course is top quality. I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could. The overall conditions were excellent. The greens were a bit slow due to recent rain, but they still rolled nicely.
If you're in the area, definitely check it out—you won't be disappointed.
AWESOME golf course and condition . Must play !!!!
In my opinion the best public course in New Jersey. Condition is phenomenal. The traps are the best traps for a public course in NJ by far. I play mostly private tracks . Copper Hill , Somerset Hills Trump Bedminster Mountain Ridge etc. This course for a public course, is a must play . Starter on point , Ranger always on course , cart girl always around . Greens , Tee Boxes Fairways all are in great shape . The staff in the pro shop all pleasant , greet you with a smile and are glad to see you . They take care of their golfers . The range and putting green are also great location to first tee and in great shape . Definitely will be back .
