18th Green Photo submitted by agurango on 05/24/2013
Great course
I would have loved to play the course when the greens are not aerated. Fairways in great shape. I will play this course many times in the future.
great county course
rivals the good resort tracks -- in excellent condition for this time of year -- nice challenge from all tees -- good pace of play and very friendly staff
Exclelent course
Heron glen's design is excellent and challenging. Course was in great shape. Greens were nice and quick.
Top public course!
Love the layout. The greens are spectacular for a public track. Sand traps could use some sand and white tees a tad too short. Since blues are 6500+, this course would be ideal at 6200 yards for the average player who drives the ball 200-235. Wish I was a county resident and I would play it more often.

Links-y, walkable and fair
I liked this spot quite a bit. Not a lot of trouble as far as water is concerned, a lot of open layouts, some nice par 3's. The NJ autumn looking out at the valley was really awesome, and the place played really fair. Twenty minute frost delay, but nothing you can do about that this time of year. We ran into a very small pace problem on the last five holes, and the greens were a little chewed with divots and such, but still, well worth the $50. I'd say it's just a shade less than Morgan Hill, but only because Morgan Hill is a ridiculous value.
great layout and perfect conditions
Actually the greens were too fast for a county golf course and the course was pushing for a 4-1/2 hour pace of play. It was one of fast greens I ever played on and I have played on fast greens, like Seaview - Bay, a month after the LPGA event.
Great course and nice weather.
First time played with a friend from the tip over 7000 yards. It is quite challenge to place the ball in position to score well. The course was well maintained and the condition was great. Green is slightly fast and not easy to read.
green ball mark was not fixed at all.
I would go under hot deal, not regular rate. at greeen ball mark is not fixed at all.
Lots of sand
Great challenge for even the better golfers. Our round took longer then the recommended 41/2 hr because it was cart path only.
This only adds to the length of time your on the course.
Can't believe its a Muni
Very interesting, picturesque links style layout. Greens are a bit speedy and there's plenty of sand. If the fescue is up bring some extra balls. The course demands a bit of thought, which i really like. And it always seems to be in pristine condition, even when other nearby courses are taking a hit, Heron Glen remains unscathed. Definitely one of the best maintained public courses in NJ. The only negative is that it is a VERY busy course. Good for the club; not for the golfer. Rangers do their best with the hand they've been dealt, but the real problem seems to be over-booking, which leads to unmanageable crowded conditions. The Club House? Yeah, its basically a double wide trailer. But I don't go to golf courses to eat or roam around the clubhouse. Heron glen is a must play for any serious golfer.
Nice municipal course. Friendly staff.
Played 13 holes on Sunday morning. Nice course, but tough la-out for long hitters.
Fun and challenging
Challenging and well maintained golf course. Greens and fairways were in good condition. Staff was very friendly. Unfortunately, the ranger was MIA. We waited on almost every T-box and fairway. Apparently, the problem was with a group ahead of the group we were following. We finally saw the ranger at the 18th T-box. Didn't do us any good.
Heron Glen first time played
I liked the course a lot. The conditions were quite good for a public course. The one and only minor thing is, the first tee is right next to the practice putting green, and so is quite noisy.
Its a great course.
Its a great course. Its overpriced sometimes but I got the deal on here for $32. The greens are great. Very smooth and fast but not ridiculous.
Best public golf for the price
Ive played a lot of public courses in NJ and this is bar far the best value for your money. Heron Glen provides a difficult yet fair round with great conditions. I can't believe if took me this long to play here but I'm looking forward to my next visit. We teed off before 10 on a sat and played 18 in under 4 1/2 hours and we never waited to hit a shot which is rare for public golf in NJ.
Terrific Course!
Hilly and sloped. Not much water. Lots of sand...thought I was at the beach! Beautiful design/layout. Greens were fast and true. Tee boxes were well kept. Fairways are in great shape; clubhouse personnel were cordial; starter was helpful as he gave me some pointers on playing the course for the 1st time. Great value through GolfNow. I look forward to playing it again and might make it my 'home" course!
Beautiful and challenging course, but avoid the starter and rangers at all costs.
I thought the course was very nice and well maintained, however, the starter was just plain rude. He made some snide comments for us to hurry up and tee off when we were on time. As our playing partners who played there regularly pointed out they ONLY thing they care about is pace of play. A ranger even told us to speed it up when the group behind us was not pushing us and we were ahead of schedule according to the pace of play clock. I would be willing to play the course again hopefully without the color commentary.
Stellar!!!
It was my turn to book a golf day for 3 of my friends and myself. Two of my very discriminating golfing buddies had never played Heron Glen before so I wasn't sure if this was the right course to book to suit everyone's selective needs. As it turned out, both buddies (and the 3rd guy) were extremely impressed and gave me a few "hard-to-get" kudos for selecting HG. Way to go Heron Glen Golf Course and the staff that makes it fun.
highly recommend
This is one of the best courses i've played this season. It was in mint condition. I highly recommend this course. Its a must play.
Mint, mint, mint. If you get a hot deal play this course, maybe the best value on golfnow.
Played this course on May 29, 2013. The area just had heavy rains the day before and the course wasn't wet. Very manicured course, you could play at a country club and the course wouldn't be in better shape. I was very impressed with the course, especially since it was a county municipal golf course. The tee boxes were better than some fairways that I've played on, again take advantage of a hot deal for this golf course.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
You must belong to a country club? Because most public courses have this issue unless they keep their greens rock hard. Ball marks are caused by inconsiderate golfers not the quality of the golf course.
