Our Go-To Course
This was the third time playing this course the last 3 times we've been in the area, and our previous reviews still bare out why we keep coming back - great staff, layout, fairways, bunkers, greens, and finally, generous tee box locations for my wife.
We will return.
Great value
I love this courses layout, very fun and somewhat challenging to play. A few greens have pits that make it hard to putt, needs some work. My only real complaint is the cart path it’s in really bad shape, but as long as I can drive on the grass it’s a non issue. Besides the few little things I really enjoy the course and it is a great value for the price!!
Average course
Fairway grass was thin or nonexistent in many places and the tee boxes were "playground" turf.
An excellent value!
This course was a lot of fun - easier than others I’ve played recently and well, well worth the money to play. I’ll definitely be playing here again.
Our visit
Great course great staff. Shoutout to ranger George. Great customer service!!
Extremely rude staff, course in bad shape
I would like to preface this review by saying, one of the starters, George, is a great great guy and none of this negativity should be applied to him, he was wonderful, just about the only good thing the course has going for it. I showed up to play 9 holes after work yesterday. My buddy and I arrived before they stop allowing more tee times for the day. Immediately I can tell the old grumpy man in the pro shop was not happy to see us. He was giving us dirty looks, and gave us a whole aggravated spiel about making sure we don’t park in the fairways as if we were dumb and have never stepped foot on a golf course to understand what “don’t drive in the fairways”means. Annoyed, but eager to get out to beat the sunset, I moved forward and tried to pay for the round. I had previously paid for 18 holes at this course a couple weeks before this, I was only able to get through nine holes because I had to leave for a family emergency, they were nice enough at the time to give me credit to comeback and play 9 holes to finish the round. This credit was a printed receipt that was good for something like 55% off your next round or something of that sort. I used this receipt to try and lessen the cost, and the grumpy old man looked at it and threw it away and charged me full price for 9 holes. I didn’t notice at the time I had swiped my card, but after finding out my friend paid the same amount I know he charged me full price. So now I had lost the option of getting that free 9 hole round back. Moral of the story is, the man in the pro shop is totally miserable on most days you encounter him, which makes playing the course unbearable, my friend and I will most definitely not be back especially considering the condition of most of the greens was pretty rough.
Great all around course.
Great all around course. Well maintained, very friendly staff. Very laid back and relaxed atmosphere. Only problem i had was there was a lot of heavy grass clippings that made it easy to lose my golf ball. I had to kick around in some grass clumps a couple times if I was a little off the fairway, but other than that very nice.
Pass this one up. Not good.
If you have the chance to pass this golf course up, I would. They seem to have a few problems that need to be addressed and it might just cost them to much to do. The course has a drainage problem. Any rain and its cart paths only to whole course. No one want to take 4 clubs, walk across the fairway to look for your ball and hope you brought the right one. Second. Some of the greens are terrible. Putting through sand spread on the green or just black dirt. Much better courses to play. River Greens, Pinecrest, either course at Sun N Lake and Highlands Reserve in Davenport. You’ll have a more enjoyable day at any of those courses than at Cypress Woods.
Very wet course, summer cut greens, fun layout.
Played this course for the first time after a very heavy rain the night before. Standing water in many locations. Cart path and rough only. Apparent that it was too wet to mow many portions of the rough. Even some fairways were long. Greens were classic Flordia "summer cut" - long and shaggy. Needed my driving putter to get the ball close to the hole on long putts, but I didn't have it along. No roll at all in the fairway. A number of "plugged" shots. Course has nice wide fairways with an interesting layout. It would be fun to play it in the prime season of February to April to see how the greens would roll, and if the fairways and rough improve without all of the moisture. I'll probably try it again at the Golfnow price at a different time of year because it is close to the family we are visiting. The staff was friendly. It sounded like no restaurant service during the "off season" except Thursday through Sunday. I would not recommend this course during the heat of the summer or after a heavy rain.
Good Course;Great Price
Enjoyed the round. Long course, wide fairways. Greens seemed slow. Cart path could use work.
It’s average
This is an average course. For the money it won’t disappoint. Was upsetting to learn that there was no locker rooms. Playing in FL you’re wet and nasty from sweating on the course and being able to take a shower and change your clothes before you leave the course is always a plus. It’s worth playing especially if you catch it here on a hot deal. Wouldn’t go out of my way to get here though.
Wet! just “okay”
Course holds a lot of water during rainy season. Supposedly was on the up and up but has a long way to go. Not sure they can ever do anything with how much water this place holds. Greens are slow and grass is thin. Tee boxes were ok. Fairways were fine if you were dry. If you are use to playing nicer caliber courses I would skip this one.
Needs drainage
The course was like a bog. No bounced to ball whatsoever. Lotta plug balls, especially around the green.
Less expensive but...
The course punched both fairways and greens last week. I had played my usual Saturday round there and the greens seemed in pretty good condition. Over the next couple of days the fairways in particular got worse as the dirt clods from the punch dried in the sun. So, even though we could ride on the drier fairways, the amount of release on a drive was about the same as when the fairway was wet. Either collect the clods, and use them as fill in the many low areas that are constantly wet, or mow and break them up. Hopefully in another couple of weeks things will be back to normal.
Since I only play weekdays when there are holidays I also discovered that the grill is closed on Mondays (and Tuesday/Wednesday even on holidays) until the snowbirds return (the community is about half empty.
Usually the pace of play here is good. Most Saturday mornings we finish around 3 and 1/2 hours. Teeing off at almost 10 on a Monday I expected about the same. But, the twosome in front of us, was stuck behind the foursome in front of them, so we all ground around at the pace of the foursome (which wasn't bad at about 4 hours 20 minutes really, but seemed worse given the waiting our threesome was doing). Again by late October when these will all be foursomes things should even out, although the prices will be higher.
