Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018 and transformed into Disc Golf Course.
Kayak Point Golf Club is one of Washington's most popular courses. It was named one of the "Top 50 Public Courses to Play" by Golf Digest, and the Seattle Times called it a "must play" course. Located in Stanwood, Kayak Point is less than an hour north of Seattle. The layout was carefully carved from an old growth forest of firs and cedars. You'll enjoy scenic views of the Olympic Mountains on several holes. The layout will test you with sloping fairways and large, immaculately manicured greens. There are more than 30 greenside bunkers at Kayak Point, but water comes into play on only two holes. The spacious golf course doesn't have any parallel fairways and it's not short on length at over 6,700 yards from the back tees.

They're doing a great job!
I played on 9-4-15 and the course was forgiven since we had lots of rain in the past 4 days. This made the fairways greener and a little more slower rather than bouncing or rolling every which way when I played in those dry 90 degree temp. The greens were great and smooth. The staff is always helpful and friendly.
Nice hole variety, elevation changes.
Lots of trees and challenging elevation changes. Required shot making on some holes to avoid thick trees on dog legs. Areas outside fairway was kept up better than some others I played in this area which often have impossible undergrowth. Staff was friendly, but the drought had the fairways burned out which was normal this year in the Seattle area. Greens were kept up, but the fairway boxes were not. I still enjoyed my round and would play it again. I don't know how the course conditions are under normal weather years but I thought it was one of the better mountain style courses I've played.
So sad -- no water!
Unfortunately the drought has taken it's toll on the fairways. They had not been watered in ages, so there was no grass. Given the many hill and sides, that meant the ball rolled all sorts of places... and often over a hill, so hard to see where it ended up.
We waited all the way around,; the round lasted 5.5 hours!
Even at the reduced green fee, this was not value for money, since we decided to take a cart (this WAS well worth it!)
Why is it so brown?
cannot believe how bad this course. Brown fairways on every single hole!!! Super bad!! I have been playing Kayak for sevens years and this is the first time it was in horrible condition. The course was brown and dry with some grass patches in some places. I live by Jackson park golf course and it's green well cared for. I played willows, Druids and kayak this summer and all of these courses have take step down. Time to play only Oki or premier golf courses.
First impression
Due to an extremely dry summer, the fairways are extremely dry and fast. The greens are in excellent condition all things considered. Very hilly and tree lined on basically every hole. Good value and fun to play. I will be back when it turns green again.
Classic NW course with magnificent trees
A really beautiful course 45 minutes north of Seattle. Fairways were unusually completely burned out due to very very hot dry weather. This made the course very difficult as fairways slope and ball just ran off the centre of the fairways into the trouble. I'm sure this was a factor in making the round incredibly slow.
very challenging but FUN
Just moved up from Austin TX so I am used to dry conditions in the summer. For those who pinged the course because of dryness, get over it, we are in a bit of a dry spell up here. Was my first round out in quite some time - this course is very challenging, so some words were exchanged between me a some of the greens but that is golf ;-) The best part is the natural surroundings, gorgeous trees and well being out in the middle of nowhere playing on a awesome course, I will be back soon! To get my butt kicked a little more even though I started off with 2 x pars.
Kayak Point Going Downhill
I was a member one year about three years ago. At that time they had a special dinner of prime rib once a week. I was amazed they said they had a men's club when they only had a few events scheduled for the year. The prices were good, being an over 55 member, but the restaurant and course are going downhill. In most years, spring, fall and winter are cart path only and very wet (bad drainage). Since I have been going there the tee boxes have gone from bad to worse. Tilted, crowned, uneven, etc... Greens are very good with a groundskeeper that puts pins where the ball can't stay if you place by hand on several holes. Some of the bunkers haven't been loosened in ??? Hard as a rock with no depth. Weather has affected the fairways this summer. Hard and fast.
Lastly, there are some folks who have a problem with pace. Occasionally I am asked to play through but never once has a twosome or threesome asked if I wanted to join them. When I ask it's like I am invading their private bubble. I can't get used to the NW hospitality IF I KNOW YOU mentality. I've tried, oh well. Kayak Point is as all the rest. One or two months of the year pretty good to bad most of the year. Guess it's just what you are used to.
There is no price for 9 holes. You must pay full price. $51 on weekend + cart + drive is crazy too much. The $22 + cart later price is at the limit for the course and experience.
Horrible experience
Took 2 hrs to play 3 holes 3 groups on a hole ,group ahead of us was a twosome with one set of clubs, running back and forth sharing. We quit after 3 holes and wasted our $80 Never again.
Dry
I can imagine that this course would be fun and challenging. Dry. Dry. Dry. While excellent bottles of champagne are preferred dry. Fairways. Rough. Not so much. I know it has been a dry summer. So my recommendation. Play in the spring or winter.
Beautiful Scenery
My husband and I truly enjoyed this course , I would say a bit challenging so much fun to play , beautiful scenery , staff is super friendly , we are deffinately coming back this is on our top ten list ...
Slow and Burnt Out
This course doesn't water their fairways. They were totally baked out and rock hard. Over 5 hours to play. Not very enjoyable.
Course in late August shape.....
With the extreme early summer weather, the course is very dry. Many areas that a burned in the fairways. Green are in good shape. Some tee boxes are in need of repair.
Beautiful course
A few of the fairways were quite brown but I loved the wilderness feel from the course. Completely in the woods with only one house on the course. This was my first time playing here and I was actually very impressed. Paid only 16 per golfer using golf now and it was definitely worth it. I'll certainly be coming back to play here again.
Fun no frills course
Course was fun with right amount of challenge for duffer like me. Course was in adequate, not great shape. Clubhouse pretty barebones, but I wasn't hanging out there anyways. Staff very friendly. All in all good value for the $$$.
Nice Course!
Picked this to play before the US Open in Seattle. Great little track. Not long but lots of elevation changes and have to think your way around. It was in excellent shape the greens ran very well. Definitely would play again.
So so course
The overall course has always been decent. Can't really tell about the greens as some are normal some are too dried. Make sure that your crew clean up each driving cart before assigning to a customer. The one that was assigned to us was still full of emptied beer cans in the back and candy bar wrappers. I had to personally cleaned it myself before my golf round started. That took some time off from my driving range warm up I did not get to take time to do.
Kayak Point Golf Course
Very nice facility for a public course. Just wish they maintained the sand traps better. Very hard sand pack and inconsistent.
Holiday Golf
Stretched out to the tips the golf course was a great challenge. Course and greens are in great condition and the speed of play at 4hours 5 min was excellent for a holiday afternoon.
The course was in poor shape
This course is definitely not worth the price to play on. The course was is bad shape with more examples of poor maintenance and upkeep then I care to mention. Signs were missing or broken, trash cans were overflowing, tee boxes and fairways were tore up. This course needs new management.
