Hidden Lake - Old Course
We played the Old Course in the afternoon using a GolfNow "Hot Rate". The course was an easy walk, and the starter let us off a little early, so we could play at our own pace. The pace of play was fast, which we enjoyed. The course has some challenging holes, though it is not the most scenic or visually interesting track. The facility has two championship courses and an extensive practice facility. There is a great atmosphere for group lessons, the pro shop is well stocked with some decent pricing on clubs and slightly out of season apparel. The golf is challenging, the course is average (which is not a criticism...it's simply not a "signature" type of course), and the vibe is very friendly.
Good Value
Course is in good overall condition, greens were a bit slower than normal. Not overly long, but, you must be in position off the tee as trees come into play on most holes. Always good value for money in the GTA region. Pace of play is always decent.
A fun course that is in greta condition.
A fun course thats in great ondition. The course plays really well and the opportunity to shoot a great score is achievable. If i find a similar deal again i would definitely go back for another round.
Good course
Pretty course, in good shape and best pace of play I've experienced so far this year
Nice Walk
Good mix of holes, very easy walk. Good early morning deals. Negative is there is no water anywhere on the course, not good on hot days
Very well maintained.
This course was great. Pristine in condition with very helpful and friendly staff.
Even with a tournament on the new course at the time we had no real issues with over crowding. We were on the heels of the guys infront and had the guys behind on ours but we really ddidn't spend anytime waiting or holding anyone up. Very well balanced tee times.
Would recommend to anyone.
Traditional - Nice Track
Had not played the Old Course at Hidden Lake for many years and had forgotten how nice it is to play.
Traditional type course lots of big trees, smallish greens a few blind shots. The landing areas are wide, but if you stray off the rough is thick and you can get into tree trouble where you need to pitch out and take your medicine.
Not a ball buster for length around 6700 with some long par threes's and a couple of longish par fives.
Pace of play was good we played at 4:00 PM and were done by 8:00 with waiting on every hole.
I live 10 minutes away and will be going back out there again for sure.
Reasonable conditions for the time of year, overbooked & slow
Reasonable conditions, but overbooked and slow play
Nice course, good value for the price.
Difficulty is on average, not very challenge, but is good for this price range.
Good facilities and course!
First time playing the old course and was impressed. It is in good condition and plays well. Greens were like rock though and need to be aerated or something, we just tapped the balled and it went on forever! Played from the gold tees and made some holes a bit long, especially when getting off the fairways.
I'll be back!
need to play gold or black tees (6400-6700)
overcast rainy day but course had great drainage. Greens ran true. traps raked, tee blocks OK and fairway and rough maintained.
Quiet day which helped our 3 some play just under 4 hours in damp conditions. Overall a good value for $67.00 incl cart.
Pace of play
The front nine was moving okay. A little slow for a Monday morning. As we were finishing up on seven, the pace of play slowed dramatically. Finishing up nine there were 3 foursomes on #10 tee. This is the only major problem with this facility. They jam people on the course. Very easy to have a 6 hour round here. I will try again next year in the hope they change their ways.
Average course. Tough greens.
We went on a very busy holiday Victoria Day. The weather was perfect and the course was packed. It was easy to tell the younger members of the staff were overwhelmed with how busy it was. At the half way house we had to wait for the cart girl to refresh the sandwiches but it was well worth the wait. When we paid at the club house, we thought it was a bit expensive but didn't say anything.....just before tee off the young man at the counter came out with $20 he over charged us, which was very nice of him. The course itself was just average with very challenging greens.
Will play again - the Old coarse is fun as well
Fairways, greens( very grainy ala Toronto Golf Club) and bunkers all in excellent condition- tees not so much.
Played on the holiday Monday which probably accounts for the 5 hrs on the coarse.
great course
Value for money. hope to play again here. Enjoyed the scenic course with little hazzards to greens.
great shape. Greens not holding shots.
The course is in really nice shape. It was a good sprig for growing and is shows. The Fairways are perfect. The density of the greens is making is difficult to have shots stick. No ball marks to fix at all. It was not like this last summer. overall this is a very good cource and is a great value.
Course could be in better shape
Some of the greens did not fair well due to winter kill. Temporary green on one hole, others were patchy. Secondary rough needs to be cut!! Balls that venture off the fairway and primary rough are difficult to find as they sit well below the top of the grass. Considerable time spent looking for balls that should of been easily found which resulted in slow play. Course was not up to the pristine conditions as seen in past rounds
Good course operations; bad clientele!
Very nice course that's well kept up; it should be enjoyable, challenging enough and fun to play. But that wasn't really what happened although it's not fair to blame the course entirely.
They list the course as a 4-hour round; that is dubious based upon some of the people that play there and the lack of regular marshalling. Both foursomes in front of us were dreadfully slow (the first group had to have finished in 6 hours) and had no understanding of golfing etiquette and didn't play from the approrpriate tees. Add to that some beer (or perhaps too much) and it was a frustrating wait on every single shot for about 5 holes. It go so bad we had to phone the pro shop to get a marshall out to move things along. Got to give the staff their due; they did a good job and were very attentive but the minute the marshall left, things went back to normal (crazy slow and an idiot lying down on the green lining up putts like a pool table) and we waited on each shot again until we finally went up to the group in fornt to ask to play through.
We did recommend this course because of the staff attentiveness, but will think real hard about returning. With the amount of general public playing here, they've got to do a better job of moving folks around.
This course offers a good challenge and was well maintained
very pleased with the course conditions. Very enjoyable round of golf. We started at 7:10am and finished within 3.5hrs.
Good Early Season
This course has filled in nicely with this spring weather. The fairways are in very good shape, the rough was in good shape (a little long, but it was a nice challenge).
Half the greens were in good shape, others were still growing in with some winter damage, but very playable. Hidden Lakes has a history of having well maintained courses.
All in all, a great afternoon and well worth playing.
