Airport convenience
I took a customer to play on the weekend, which is what he preferred. We chose this course due to the convenient location since we are coming from opposite sides of the GTA. The course is always in good shape but I did find some of the tee decks to be in rough shape. Unlevel lies and some divots that were not replaced. The course gives challenge to all levels as club selection and accuracy is very important. Only a few holes where there is enough room to grip it and rip it. Fair challenge and I wish I played better from tee to green. The overall value is fair for the location but there are better deals out there given the course beauty and conditions.
Dissapointing
This is a poorly designed course built on wasteland adjacent to the airport. The course was not well maintained, abandoned golf carts left on course.
There was no GPS, minimal info on scorecard and no diagrams on sign at tees. This course is Nirvana for those who scavenge lost golf balls.
Tight layout had us dodging balls from other fairways on several holes.
Do your self a favour a play Lakeview or another public course. Even at $65 (special) it is overpriced.
If you are intent on spending over $100 drive up to Copper Creek and play a decent course for $125 on weekends
This is not an elite course by any means. Reminded me of Banty's Roost 25 years ago.
Staff was friendly enough but I would not play this course again.
Hi, Ray, thanks for taking the time to review us. We're very sorry that you were so disappointed in your time with us -- we want to give our players the best possible golfing experience and we obviously didn't meet that goal. We're always open to feedback, so we appreciate your concerns about maintenance, layout, and groundskeeping. Thanks again for your review, and we hope you decide to give us another shot.
The Course at YYZ
Conveniently located by Pearson airport and close to the downtown core Royal Woodbine G.C. is a great round for locals as well as golfers visiting Toronto.
The track is challenging with water coming in to play on almost every hole. Respect the creek otherwise expect to lose multiple strokes. The key is to account for the "carry" so take less club if needed, as aggressive players will be rolling into the creek all day. The 18th hole is definitely the most difficult hole, Par is certainly a good score.
The staff has done a marvellous job keeping the course in wonderful shape, the fairways and greens are in immaculate repair given the lack of rain this year. Low flying planes are a bit of a distraction especially on the last few holes, but I guess that's the price you pay for having a course located in the city.
Pace of play was wonderful as we golfed on a Monday morning. Amenities are pleasing with a modern twist, and daily specials are the norm. Green fees are fair given the convenient location.
Robby, thanks a lot for your review! We love being able to offer our players a satisfying challenge on a beautiful course. We'd love to see you back on the course again!
Challenging Course by Toronto Airport
Convenient location, very challenging golf course and great staff & snack bar !
Challenging round of golf , great snack bar. Great, friendly staff.
Sal, we really appreciate your review! We like great service from our staff to be the cherry on top of a good round of golf, so we're very happy to have provided that during your visit. Come back and see us again soon!
Nice day at Woodbine.
I was a walk-on and was joined with two visitors to Toronto. Nice company and great staff. Greens were in good shape and pace of play was excellent. Nima, our server on the patio, was wonderful and she completed a great day at Woodbine.
Raymond, thanks so much for your review! Providing a great experience for our guests and players is our goal, and it's great to hear that we achieved that. Thanks again, and we hope to see you again soon!
Great course
So, I read all the reviews to date about this course, and had heard through the grapevine about it being on Pearson's flight path. To me, this is a complete nonissue. This is a very good course within Toronto, and a challenge for intermediate/advanced golfers, especially if you are playing from the tips! My only peeve was that the putting green was not open, as it was under repair.
Thanks a lot for your review, Michael. We apologize that the putting green was under repair during your visit -- hopefully it'll be open and improved for your next round! We love that we can provide a challenge to our players and we hope the course continues to impress guests new and old. Hope to see you again soon!
If you can play this you can play anywhere !!!
One needs to keep focussed.. it is a good course.
Thanks for the review, kamalkhiani! Focus is important to golf, and we love that you're practicing that skill with us. See you out on the course!
Overpriced
Short course with constant noise from airplanes on the front nine and parts of the back nine. This is a $40 max course.
Thanks for your review! We apologize for the airplane noise and we wish that particular circumstance was different. We do offer tee times and occasional specials on our site, and feel free to check in with us about any upcoming special events. Hope to see you again soon!
good morning golf
if the traffic is not too stupid, I can get here in 30 minutes from the east end of toronto, which is a big plus. it is a full-sized course, lots of room to air it out, great par 3's. my favourite hole is in direct line with the landing path for pearson airport. if you time your shot right, it is like hitting it up and watching the plane tow it along to the green. the noise of the jets about 100 feet above you is a real kick for me. the greens are a good challenge, nuanced and quick.[I had 3 bogeys on the back 9, all 3-putts] this is one of my favourite courses around town. I have to watch for a good deal to play here, as the regular cost is a little more than I would usually pay [okay, i'm a bit of a cheap guy] but that's why i'm reviewing for golfnow, right? the 18th is always a challenge, try not putting too many balls in the drink.
Thanks for taking the time to review us, Bogey Man! We like players to enjoy the challenges, big and small, that our course presents, and that's an awesome perspective to take regarding the air traffic. Hope to see you again soon!
Tough Course
This was a tough course for me. There is water on practically every hole. You need to be accurate everywhere. Course is well maintained and they are trying their best to keep it up to speed. There is no practice green on the course. I did not know that this course is so close to the city. A great find!
Thanks for taking the time to review us! We take a lot of pride in our course, so we're glad it shows. It can indeed be a tough course but we'd like it to be a very enjoyable experience, too -- we're always open to feedback from our players and guests. Come back and see us again soon!
No water for golfers
Have played here many times in the past. Had no problems till yesterday. We teed off at 9am. It was hot and reached a temperature of 35 with humidity. There are no fountains on the course. When we arrived at the halfway house on the 7th @ 10:30 it was closed. When we came around back to the halfway house on 13 @12:15 it was still closed. We finally met up with a cart girl on 14 @12:30. We were not told by the starter that there would be no access to water or drinks for 3 hours on the hottest day of the year! I find this very irresponsible and dangerous. If your not going to open the halfway house from Mon. to Wed. than put in a pop machine or fountain.
Thanks for the review! We’re so sorry about the lack of water and drinks on the course during your recent round. Being outside in that kind of heat is no joking matter, and your comfort and safety while our guest is extremely important to us. Thank you for bringing this point to our attention and please know that we’ll be considering some changes, especially during hotter weather. We hope to see you again soon!
Goose droppings spoil the finish
I love the layout of this course, and the greens are undulating, but smooth.
I was disappointed that there was a new practice green that is not yet ready, so there is absoluterly no place to warm up any part of your game.
I understand that there simply is no land for anything much more than a putting green, but a course of this caliber should invest in a couple of cages so that a player could at least get a few full swings in beforehand.
The finishing hole is excellent, unfortunately it is somewhat spoiled by the sheer number of geese and droppings from the approach area.
There was quite literally hardly room for the ball to sit on a patch of grass without touching it. It's that bad.
A couple of swans swimming around would not only add to the beauty, but rid the area of the geese, that really do take away from an otherwise beautiful finishing hole.
On a bit of a sid-note. We spotted 2 deer on 2 seperate occcasions crossing the course, which wsas lovely, but that was followed by coming around a blind corner on the cart path to come nearly face to face with a coyote, that was probably looking to spoil the day for those deer. It was a bit nervous for a few seconds , but I got a 3 iron ready just in case, and he decided to move on. ;)
Thank you very much for reviewing us! We’ll hopefully have the new practice green ready for your next round, and we share your frustration regarding the limited warm up space. Our local wildlife can occasionally prove frustrating so far as upkeep is concerned – we’ll have to look into the idea of swans on the course! Please let us know immediately if you feel threatened by any animals you encounter while out on the course, as your safety and security is important to us. We look forward to seeing you again!
Bunkers
Everything was great about this course, tough track that really challenges you. However this time, and keep in mind it was Father's Day, the bunkers on the entire course we're not raked or maintained, so it was like hitting a bunker shot out of concrete. Really disappointed
Thank you so much for taking the time to give us a review! We're glad you enjoyed the course, but we're disappointed that the bunkers weren't up to our standards during your round. We'll keep a better eye on them and keep them in better shape for your next visit! We hope to see you again soon!
Not Great
Pace of play was awful. We were behind a group that had an employee of the course and they did not play ready golf, added probably another 45 minutes onto an round that was already too long. The Ranger wouldn't do anything about it either, very poor experience, wont be going back, particularly not for how much it cost me.
We apologize about the slow pace of your recent round and we’re always interesting in improving the play experiences for our customers. Please contact us at (416) 674-4653 so we can determine exactly what slowed your game and find a way to remedy that issue for any future rounds. Again, we’re very sorry that you were dissatisfied with your experience and we’d love the opportunity to change your mind soon!
Bitter flavored round
Called ahead of time to celebrate Father's Day and take my dad for a ride through the course after his melanoma surgery.(he is unable to play)
No problem...they said...sign a waiver and your off...they said...on the phone....I should have got it in writing!!
After a 1/2 hour argument payed a fee and was able to tee off!!
Miscommunication between staff left us with a bitter flavored round!
Nice course, nice layout, well maintained greens.
Fairways are a bit dry...
We’re very sorry that there were communications errors with some of our staff before your round. We hold our staff to high levels of customer service and we sincerely apologize for the issues. Please contact us at (416) 674-4653 so we can discuss the problems and find a good solution so it doesn’t happen again. Thank you so much for playing with us, and our best wishes to your father!
Classic layout
This a classic layout with a lot of trees and doglegs . Il love the course as it demands that you play golf shots. You can't just blast your way around it.
Since it is so close to the airport you do have to get used to the planes flying low all the time !
Staff is very very friendly and make you feel welcome
Thanks for coming out, and thanks for the review! We're glad you had a good time, and we hope to see you again soon.
disapointed
I've been wanting to play this course for a long time It finally worked out that I got a deal to play there and had a friend willing to play with me Now I didn't know they did not have a driving range But I could live with that But when I got there the chipping and putting green was under repair so I couldn't even get to figure out there greens before I play. Then I find out that it was cart path only and they don't have a walking rate. so I went out and played this course. twice on the first 4 holes I brought 4 clubs to my ball to play with and because it was my first time there. I didn't realize that I either had too much or too little in my hand. then after 8 holes a thunderstorm rolled in and shut everything down. Now I have a 9 hole credit that I might never use. Sorry Royal Woodbine. Your course was in decent shape and your greens rolled true and fast But I guess my expectations were too high and I probably won't be back.
The course was in good condition.
Overall the course was good shape but the greens were a bit slow.
Fun and Challenging
I've played this course twice now and have enjoyed myself both times. Very convenient from downtown Toronto. It is quite narrow and water plays a factor on most holes. Due to the changeable weather (we had two hail showers) the course was practically empty so we had a really good time with no pressure. I really like the course layout, and there are lots of different strategies that can work. The 18th is a great finishing hole.
Very Good Track In The City
Have played a few times over the years and the track is quite good. Not long but lots of water in play so demands ability to control your ball. Planes overhead make it noisy but then again it is unique to see all the planes taking off or landing right over your head. Clubhouse being renovated.
Thanks a lot for your review! We always appreciate feedback from our players, and we hope you'll join us again soon.
