King's Forest Golf Course
About
Dating back to 1973, King's Forest Golf Course in Hamilton is among the top public golf courses in Ontario. The conditions are top-notch especially for a municipal course, and Ontario Golf Magazine has recognized King's Forest as a "Hidden Gem." King's Forest has hosted the Canadian Junior Golf Association Ontario finals, the Ontario Men's Amateur Championship Qualifier and the Ontario Men's Amateur Championship.

Start of the year
Good condition for first day of being open. Fairways were surprisingly dry. Green still long and fuzzy. Great layout. Demands the use of all your shots
Kings Forest
An awesome layout and a great test of golf, as is always the story at Kings Forest.
Great Course
Course is a great test of golf. Important to play the course from the appropriate tee box . Good condition and greens were excellent!
Typical Steel Town
I'm long time Hamiltonian and avoid all the city courses sadly because of the steadfast ignorance, greed, lack of ettiqute and courtesy for others; did a 5 hour round on a 4 hour course.
Mind you, it doesn't make sense for a foursome to play thru a foursome, but the irate drunks thought it was funny to back up 3 groups on holes.
Appearantly, I was in the wrong and threatened with assault for questioning their pace?
Classic championship layout that should be played once a year if it wasn't for the ignorance and disrespect for the game of golf.
mr.
The greens are great though the fairways are a little dry.
Blind Shot Alley
Very disappointed in this course. Our foursome drove from Barrie to play this course. Never again. The name of this course should be changed to "Blind Shot Alley". Whether you are teeing off or making an approach shot, you are hitting blind shots on almost every hole - sometimes twice on the same hole! Hidden hazards are the surpize on the other side of the blind shot. Practice green was excellent, however, that was the only good green on the course. The course greens were in poor condition and had very different speeds. Fairways were dry and had long rollouts - oh, those blind hazards came into play again! Sand traps were fine and were well maintained. Golf carts did not run well (switched one out at the turn). Carts did not have windshields or bag covers - thank heavens it did not rain. I will never play this course again (buddies agree) and I will never recommend it to anyone.
Rainy day
Love this course. 4 th time playing there but this time we had to many people in front of us. We had 10 groups in front of us. In front of them was 5 groups. For that reason the pace of play was terrible and I couldn't play the last 4 holes. I had to leave after 4:30 hours of play.. should only take 4 hours to play
Kings Forest never disappoints. The greens are very tricky and deceptively fast the upper tees on 14 make it a more challenging par3.
King's in the Hammer.
Played the course on Aug 31, course was in great shape, just wish people would learn and remember to FIX their ball marks on the greens. Other than that, the fairways were in good shape, and the greens were true. Beware of the escarpment when putting. Staff were friendly and Katy on the cart was as nice a person as you will ever meet.
Enjoy your round.
great golf !
Great condition. Municipal course -well maintained, typical Stanley Thompson, with lots of elevation changes and trees. False fronts on some holes make it better the second time you play..
Good day
Great course excellent layout, tees for every level of golfer.
Too long for the ladies!
At 5500 yards from the forward tees, this course is a challenge for the average woman golfer. If the course is wet, there is no roll which is much needed at this yardage. The first hole is the most forgiving as it plays downhill and is a shortish par five for women.
Conversely, #13 reads on the card as a long par four at 367 yards but it plays like a par five for the ladies.
Even if with a 170 yard drive, you next have a long forced carry which causes most to have to lay up to the chasm and waste a stroke. Either move the tees up 15 yards or make it a par five. Golf needs to be encouraging as well as challenging. A couple of the par threes are also too long ie #17 at 157 yards. That's a driver for me! I didn't see one other woman out there playing wither. It's a beautiful course with large undulating greens and interesting topography. But it needs another set of forward tees. The men have three different choices so why do the women or shorter hitters have only one choice of tees? I can only do well here with fast, firm fairways and no wind!
Hidden Gem
I was totally surprised by this course! It was amazing! I have played many beautiful courses across Canada and to be honest was not sure what to expect when I saw this deal ($45 cart included). This course reminded me of Glen Abby. The layout was challenging. If you dont make smart club selections you can end up in challenging situations quickly. The scenery was gorgeous, the course takes you up and down the escarpment with lots of mature forest views and beautiful river and water hazards. We were paired with a very friendly member who recommended we come back in the fall as the salmon will be running up river through the course. If this was a private course it's fees would easily be $150. Full fees are around $80 and in my opinion worth it. Anything less than that is a steal. You won't be disappointed. My only complaint would be that people seemed not to be repairing their ball marks on greens. However, we were one of the last groups off for the day.
Nice course tough track
Course was in great condition. Need to be precise or you will be losing a good amount of balls. Must try at least once you won't be disappointed.
Great Day at Kings Forest
Awesome course in great shape with beautiful views of the escarpment. If you have never played Kings Forest you will be in for a treat.
Best public course for the money
There are maybe better courses within the GTA but you're not going to find them for ~70$ with cart. With views you would associate with northern Michigan there are a number of holes that you feel truly isolated and will only see your playing partners. There is a big difference between the whites and blues and the starter will push people to play the whites as the jump to the blues probably requires a lot more aim and a lot longer drive.
