King's Forest Golf Course
About
Dating back to 1973, King's Forest Golf Course in Hamilton is among the top public golf courses in Ontario. Beautiful layout on a colourful fall day!
Late season conditions ,shortened tee boxes & bumpy greens, detracted from the round but the layout is challenging even though the slope rating is low. Careful club selection is required since position is everything on this course. A detailed hole description would be useful for infrequent rounds. Lots of shots find their way into the hazards, particularly since the rough is mostly dry and hard. Still, a beautiful municipal course worth every penny.
Well Run Municipal Course
Excellent course, loved the layout. conditions were excellent (a bit dry) and we were pleasantly surprised. Only downfall was pace of play. As a twosome with a foursome in front of us (with open holes in front of them) a marshall on the course would be beneficial to keeping us within a reasonable time frame for a round. 5.25 hours is a bit ridiculous.
Great course
I live on the hill just above this golf course, when I walk my dogs I can see people playing. It's just below the escarpment, with a creek running through or along almost every hole. The greens are fast and tip top shape with challenging pin placements. The scenery is amazing and the wildlife is outstanding. The last 2 time playing I have seen 2 families of deer. Highly recommend this course. !!!!!!!!!!
King's Forest - Hamilton, Ontario
Its a shame that the pace of play at King's Forest ruined the day for our foursome. The Sunday afternoon round took nearly 5 hours 15 minutes to complete. We did not see a marshal at any point during our round to help speed up play. The pace was excruciatingly painfully slow. Be mindful if you are thinking of playing this gem on the weekend. You will be in for a slow round. Other that the pace of play, the course is fantastic. A great challenge with different elevations to keep it interesting. Number 11 is its signature hole, and has a great view. Overall it is a great course, but they really need to manage the pace of play, so a few foursomes don't ruin it for the rest of the paying public. We will go back, and book either very early in the morning, or later in the afternoon.
Want a challenge? Play the Kings!
This course has plenty of variety and will challenge even a scratch golfer.
Great layout and truly a golfers golf course.
In Great Shape
Course was in magnificent condition. Benefitted from rain the past few days. Great deal through Golf Now. Only problem was pace of play. Marshalls could've improved this issue. Beyond that, I've played this course many times. Best condition in a while.
The King of courses!
You'll never find a better course of this caliber for the money. The layout is scenic and challenging and we were never held up during our round. Greens were in great shape and if anything in this dry weather, a little slow. Fairways, greens and bunkers were all well manicured. Wish they could put a newer clubhouse in, however, staff was courteous and friendly. This will be by new go to course. Championship golf course for a discount price. Definitely Hamilton's hidden gem.
A Gem
This course is a hidden beauty. In fact we had lost hikers stray across our tee. It has been a brutally dry year and the fairways are rock hard. Combined with the narrow approaches it made keeping a ball in the fairway a task. The greens however were soft as a baby's bottom and rolled true.
The pace of play was not quick but not bad at all for a public course and twilight rates.
All in all a great course
Long from forward tees but fun
Fun and interesting, with some blind shots. Need to use yardage book (which needs a little update on hole 13) Good shape, nice greens. Excwllant. Worth the drive .
Saturday golf at King's Forest
The course is very nice - what we saw of it. We were asked to start on the back 9 first which was okay. However, after playing the back 9 and coming back to the first tee-off, there was a huge back-up. It appears we and the groups in front of us caught up with the tournament. We played 3 more holes and left the course because we weren't even moving !!!
"The Beast"
King's Forest in my opinion is one of the best courses in the Hamilton area.
It is an excellent test of golf with holes 10, 11, 12 & 13 on the back 9 as the toughest part of the course. I would rate the 10th hole as the toughest on the course.
My only comment would be the slow greens....
A great challenge and a great course.
Very good public course
The course was in good condition, considering it's just the beginning of May. The greens were in good condition, but a bit slow, which is expected on a public course. The pace of play was great until the last 4 holes when it slowed to a crawl (waiting on each tee and each shot). There are a lot of elevation changes and most of the greens are huge. There can be up to a 2 club difference on some greens between a front pin placement and a back one. Food was fair at best. The roast beef sandwich special was big on bread and gravy, and short on beef. Staff is very friendly.
great course
I love this course. a beautiful setting and the staff are super friendly and accommodating
Mint condition for this time of the year
The entire course was in great shape. Some areas were under repair, but they were not in the way. Greens were also in great shape. It looks and feels like the staff is hard at work to make this a top notch course.
This is a championship course
The layout is demanding, and the greens were very slow. The 11th hole is a must play. Don't be afraid to hit driver on 13.
Great place to golf even in the rain
Went out with friends on a cool damp day so the course was at half capacity. My group play a few times a week and we try to play this course specifically at least once a month. Course was in great shape for this time of year. The upgrades and work done on sand traps were very appreciated. Service in the proshop was friendly and enthusiastic. At the break we went in for snacks and discovered a private function in progress in the clubhouse. Out of respect we did not disturb and headed back to the course...the staff in the proshop saw what happened and asked if they could help. They went out of their way to have clubhouse staff take and deliver our order without disturbing the event. Only in Hamilton!
A Championship Course.
I can see why the qualifying for the Canadian Open was held here. A very challenging course and at the same time a beautiful layout with each fairway being distinct from each one another. Ranked as one of the top public courses in Canada.
Decent course, unfortunate service.
Went to Kings Forest on The 17th of October to play a round. Weather was a little colder which meant there was a frost delay. No one at the course would let us know what time we could tee off. Originally we were supposed to tee off at 921 and the only answer we were given was "Oh I'm not sure maybe come back at 11:30." We were also told that since there was a delay and we would be back in the afternoon that we may have to pay full regular price. That was unacceptable and thankfully did not happen. Once we did end up teeing off they had everything so confused that there were 4 groups of 4 teeing off at the same time cause even more delays throughout the day.
A little bit of proper planning and better service overall would have made this a better experience. I understand the frost delay is out of everyone's hands but the way it was handled was sub par at best.
Will be spending my money and time elsewhere for the next round.
The unfortunate thing with frost delays is you cannot predict when the ground will be playable, and when it does, they have to try and manage a full day of bookings into a condensed schedule. Seems like they did how any other course would. I play Jasper National (Top 5 course in Canada) and the same happened; handled in a similar manner. The having to pay full regular price was obviously either misheard or ill-informed on their point, which was never followed through with, so no harm no foul.
Slow
quit after 9 holes due to pace of play---9 holes took 3 hours! And when we arrived at 10 there were 3 groups waiting to t-off!
this was a warm and sunny Sunday afternoon, there is no drinking water on the course and there was no beverage cart???? There was no Marshall on the course to help move things along and no compensation offered after complaining to the 1 person staff who didn't know why it was so slow or why there was no beverage cart. This used to be a great course to play but with very slow greens, very slow pace, nothing to quench your thirst with, unkept fairways, and no staff to be found, never again!
I've been playing at KIng's Forest a couple time s a year for 25 years and some things never change. The course keeps me coming back DESPITE the employment of unionized city employees in customer service roles. Take your cooler bag with a supply of your own water and Gatorade and expect to take a while to get around...the course remains worth the service disappointment. Locker Room and Club house have always smelled like flood damage.
Been playing this course for 25 years and it has ALWAYS been slow due to difficulty and the attractiveness to average/poorer players...otherwis a GREAT golf course. Played as a twosome last week with my wife and were around in 3 hr 30 min.
