Scenic woods
Not what Id call a great course, but the layout is interesting. Quite a few shortish par 4s, but some can be penalizing without a really well placed tee shot. Par 3s are pretty good . Only 1 Id consider easy. All said , I will play it again.
Value
This could be a super course if more water applied to fairways. Great variety of types of holes. Probably best conditions to play would be the spring and the fall. Still great value.
Great value
The course was in good shape considering the overly dry and hot summer. Friendly staff and starters. I will continue to play there. Great value for the money.
3rd Anniversary
We have friends that live in Kitchener& this was the 3rd year in a row we have met here played a round of golf then gone to dinner afterwards. Find this course great as its half way between us & we really enjoy playing the course. One of our comments was we looked forward to next year already. Great course & staff!
We are so happy you have chosen Scenic as your meeting place between friends! Thank you for recommending our golf course and we are already looking forward to having you back next year, too!
Good course for the money
Hot weather ..fairways burnt dry...Water mostly gone. . Greens and tee boxes are good
One star is too high a rating for this course.
I played this course with my mother on Sunday July 3, 2016. My parents are considering a Golf North membership and my mother wanted to see the course as it is relatively close to their home in Hamilton. I had played this course a number of years ago and found it to be quite dry, but hoped that might have changed. It has changed...for the worse. I doubt that they have watered the "fairways" once all year. I realize that this has been a dry summer, but the fairways are literally 98% brown, with a few greenish clumps of shaved clover barely holding to life. The rough is equally dead, but at least you can play out of it. The fairways are so baked and hard that the course was virtually unplayable. The bunkers were filled with what amounted to loose dirt rather than sand. The course has a nice layout, and could be quite nice if it was maintained at just an average level of quality. Very disappointing. You would have a more realistic golf experience if you went to the range, hit off mats, and then practiced putting at a nearby miniature golf course. Paying $60 per person after fees and taxes felt like paying $55 too much for this place. I will never go back to this course, not even for free. To think this course slots in at the second-highest membership rate for Golf North? Unbelievable.
Where's the grass?
Played This course thinking it would be decent, since Southbrook, which is down the road is a really nice course and a comparable price. From the first tee, all fairways were sparse. There were brown patches of grass here or there. It was like playing on concrete. There is water all around this course, yet zero irrigation. This will be the last time I play here. Very disappointed.
Low end not worth any price
Got a fair price for a round online for Scenic Woods so we thought. Tee off was at 1 but what we were not told was we were directly behind a tournament arranged by so.e younger people most of whom never golfed before. Tee of was a about half hour late. There was no discipline or organization at all. After tee off it was one full hour later we see waiting on the third tee. I had no choice but to call the club house and complain. It was like a bunch of school kids with no teacher. The marshal came out and did the best he could but by that time alcohol (among other things) were taking effect.
The pace increased slightly but still resulted in a 6 and a half hour round. Players hanging off carts driving like it was a go cart track.
Its seems the owner is more concerned about filling tee times regardless of how it effects people who actually golf on a regular basis and will return to a course that provides a more golfer and family atmospbere.
This is the second time this year played there and the second time this happened.
Absolutely no control over the kids allowed to play on the course plus it was no secret complaints had been filed.
Never at any cost would I go back or recommend this course which is to bad because it isn't a bad layout and the greens are decent. Throughout the year I play several golf North properties of which I have enjoyed the quality of the courses and the exceptional staff. I will continue to play these courses. The worst part of this event was I was with my daughter and grandson, both are far better and more considerate golfers than the ones allowed on the course this past Saturday, should not have to be exposed to the kind of behavior exhibited this weekend. Scenic Woods twice has shown its low end and will always be low end.
Slow!
Pace of play was very slow that day however for 32 bucks well worth money. Course was dry but greens were all in great shape. Other than pace was a great round.
Not Hot Deal friendly
We booked a Hot deal time, and since we were from out of town, we made sure to get there early, so not to be late for our tee time. We got there an hour early.
The starter said we can tee up after the group on the tee if we like, which was great, but the lady from the Pro-shop, ran out, and told him we had to wait till our 12:08 tee time, since we booked a Hot Deal, and the course made no money off us.
To me this was very disappointing, I was not aware golf now took all the money on Hot Deals, and even if they do, I don't see why the course would make us wait, when the tee block was empty(only 2 groups teed off in our hour wait).
There are lots of ways the course could have made money off us, even if the tee time didn't net them any. A beer cart, who doesn't love a beer or two, on the course, on a hot day? but there was none. They also had a wings and beer special, 2lbs and a pitcher, for $29.99, but since we didn't feel welcome on the course, we went to a local restaurant for our wings and beer instead, and spent about $10 more, than we could have gotten it at the course.
Overall a fun day, but not feeling welcome, because we booked a Hot Deal, will most likely keep us from coming back.
A little rough around the edges, but really nice layout
Our foursome has played this course several times over the years, and we keep coming back because of the variety of holes, the challenge on many and the price point when on a Hot Deal.
Many tee boxes are uneven, fairways bumpy and gravel cart paths between holes. The greens are in good condition, but quite a bit slower than at most courses.. Thin layer of sand in bunkers. Gas powered carts. What makes this course really interesting, though, is the layout - with a creek meandering throughout the property - making decision-making quite important and leading to having to use most/all of the clubs in your bag. Definitely worth playing when a "deal" is on.
Fair and playable for beginners
The course was in good condition. Needs a little maintenance with bunkers(sand). Staff was very friendly and restaurant service was excellent.
Great starter course
Good course for newbies or starting a new year. Lots of different shots, plays pretty long but not overly challenging. Amenities could use some updating, along with the still gas carts. Staff are very friendly as the atmosphere is very laid back.
Good Hot Deal
Good value if hot deal. Course conditions - ground a little hard, needs water. Tee blocks hard as rock.
- needed cutting, especially greens - too long and slow.
Good course
Course was in good shape. Could clean their grass clippings though. Too much on the greens so the putts were bouncy. Other than that nothing to complain about.
Great Value
Early spring conditions .Fairways and tees good and slow greens .Good bang for the buck .
Great deal leads to discovering great course
Very impressed with this course. Getting an amazing deal on golf now lead to me playing this course. Very early in the season and the course greens were in great condition. Very forgiving fairways makes this course perfect for the average golfer. Greens were nothing special with layout but had great maintenance and condition making very consistent putting. Although this seems like an easy course so far, after a couple holes you realize this is not simple and easy course. The assorted size of water features ranging from small ditch like hazards to wide streams and ponds start to test your ball placement. Playing smart begins to be the difference in turning your round upside down. Overall this course provides a skill testing round that is worth a try.
Nice Layout
Scenic Woods is a nice layout with a river running thru many of the holes that requires a precise shot into many pins. I played the course early in the year and several holes were quite wet, but would like to return in the summer. Greens are quite large and generally flat.
Thank you for recommending Scenic Woods! We're glad you enjoyed your round. We hope to see you again soon!
