Awkward layout
The whole course is awkwardly laid out with long gaps in between holes. Very confusing for a first time goer.
soggy and wet
rained on and off all day
finally rained out on the 8th
Holes
The holes were cut so shallow (Covid precautions) that the ball would bounce back out. Staff were not friendly and course was not well laid out with a few long walks between holes.
Girl in clubhouse needs service skills
I bought a hot deal to play at 220. I was early. 145. Asked attendant if i could join earlier group I was a single. There was no one teeing off at 140 or 150 or 200. He said go ask girl inside. I did. She said for me to go early i would have to pay the difference as i bought a hot deal. I said there was no one scheduled. She didnt care. I told first guy. He said go to 1st t and asknguy there. I did. He called same girl over phone and said I was there. I could hear her raised voice through the phone which was 10 feet away. She said no. I started to warm up. Luckily one other guy scheduled for 220 showed up early at 205 and the starter let us go. Use some logic. Im ok with waiting for another person...but to charge extra when you have no one in the spots???
Quality Value Course
The course allows you to use every club. The course is well maintained. Staff was friendly and a great value round of golf.
Challenging and fun
First time at Doon and have to say, it’s a great layout, good variety of challenges can play long or short... your choice! Definitely my new local favourite for the price! Will be back again soon!
Great course, very disrespectful marshal.
The course was in good shape, my group liked the variety of holes, and the overall course layout. The greeter was so friendly. I'm new to golf this year, my two friends in my group have been playing for years, and are pretty decent golfers.
On the first hole all three of us had pretty rough tee shots, and immediately were followed uncomfortably close by a course marshal, after one or two more shots each he stopped us and said "you guys are going to be a problem." This seemed a little quick to judge based on a few poor shots on the first hole. (also maybe the angry man 10 feet behind us in the golf cart didn't help our game...) He told us we were going to slow the course down and shouldn't be playing there on a weekend. He was beyond rude and disrespectful, made us feel completely unwelcome. He insisted we wait for the group behind us to pass. (after we were told that nobody is to pass for any reason) We followed his instruction and let the group ahead.
We were less than ten minutes on the first hole, including the time he spent giving us a hard time. He told my friend (who typically golfs 80-85 from the blues) that he "is not good enough to play the blue tees" after seeing two shots. He came at us hard with no room for discussion, it was completely unjustified.
We would have been happy to discuss his concern and ensure him we just had a bad start and would not be a problem if he approached us in a reasonable fashion. Instead he chose to be incredible harsh and unreasonable. This exchange left a very bad taste in my mouth and ruined the experience at a course we all thoroughly enjoyed otherwise.
The funny thing is that after letting the group play through we had caught up to them by the fourth hole, and then waited up to 10 minutes to tee off every hole for the rest of the 18, without anyone behind on us until 15. Doesn't seem like we were the problem.
City course at it's worst
No heads up that carts were not allowed after 3:30 PM. Had to pay to rent a pull cart despite power carts not being an option. Still saw groups that teed off after us in carts for some reason. The course is not in good shape. The greens are bumpy, the fairways are not healthy, the tee boxes are awful. The inserts in the holes they have for covid are awful to putt into compared to other courses. This course used to be a nicely kept 18 hole track that had a consistent flow and feel. Now the course is fractured between the old holes and the new ones. No consistency in the layout or the conditions of the holes. The holes across the grand river have greens about twice as fast as the first 6 holes. Pace was terrible, their was a marshall out but was clearly doing nothing. The 8th hole is just the dumbest hole around, your 2nd shot into the green is longer than your layup off the tee.
If you are going to play doon you better play for the cheap price because the course leaves a lot to be desired and nobody working their seems keen on providing a good experience. Everywhere I have played this year has been around a 4 hour round, we got 13 holes in at doon in 4 hours.
