Lowville Golf Club

I played the course on a Thursday afternoon. I arrived an hour early. After stopping for lunch in the clubhouse ( 10..00 for a pre-packaged Tuna sandwich and sport water!) I proceeded to check in. A young lady checked me in and after finding my time and reading the HOT DEAL sheet went to another staff member. She said something to him about the cart. The hot deal included the cart and he mumbled about "We never include a cart in Hot Deals" After reading my reservation, he said give him a cart and i'll have to call Golf NOW!

Definitely NOT the best way to handle the situation, especially in light of wanting a golfer to return and feel welcome. I do understand that HOT deals don't provide the regular rate of return for the course, however, in light of the light play that day, it was better than having no income.

After leaving the club house a little more than put off, i grabbed my clubs and proceeded to the starters area and picked up my cart.

Both Starters were super friendly and suggested that if I was alone, (I was) that there was no need to wait the extra hour before my tee time. The Tee was free and clear and could tee off any time I was ready!

The score card on the cart was used from the previous players. No problem as they usually have scorecards in a box at the first tee.

The box was empty so I made do with the used card and tee'd off.

The round took approximately 3 hours and would have taken less time except I caught up to a two some on the back nine that figured they need 2 mulligans each on every tee and had no intention of letting anybody through.....

Staff on the course were super friendly, except the cart staff that seem to drive up at the most in-opportune moments.... Putting, teeing off it didn't matter she made everyone on the course aware that she was there driving her noisy cart regardless of what was going on around her.

After my stale sandwich and 4 dollar sports water in the club house I wasn't prepared to spend anymore money on an inflated menu.

The course has added a new extremely large irrigation pond on the back side to improve drainage. It is the primary reason for the temporary green and almost unplayable hole. The left side of the fairway has been torn up and sprayed with liquid grass seed to help but he area is roped off and I would be surprised if it is playable (fairway) before the end of the season.

While the round provided value for my HOT Deal, I will not return at any price based on the attitude of the Pro shop staff member and the cart issue.

I have played the course many times and at regular rates, however, there are many more courses that provide much better overall experience and will not subject the paying golfer to a challenge on something as silly as a cart!

Some improvements being made to the course which necessitated a temporary green, but overall the corse was in excellent shape. First cut could be a little shorter.Would certainly play there again & would certainly recommend to fellow golfers.

Very little (if any) savings using golfnow, but the course was fine.

Experienced physical assault and racial abuse. Staff didn't seem to care and said they were helpless. We were assured to get a call back in 48 hrs and it is more than 72 hrs and no response. By remaining silent, they are condoning and even promoting such behavior which has no place in Canada let alone on a golf course. Will make sure all my fiends and family never go to this course.

Went to the course with a friend, some guest on the course got abusive with Racial remarks and physical threats. Complained to staff at clubhouse and left the course immediately and promised myself never to return again. Still waiting to hear from Staff as to what actions have they taken against abusive guest on there property. People like these should be banned from the Golf Course entirely as this kind of conduct is not acceptable in any form of sports.

Challenging course - well maintained. There are a couple of holes curently under construction with one temporary green. Unfortunately, the temporary green is 100 yds short of the green under construction with no guidance as to the distance to the temporary green. 2 of the 4 in our group overshot the temporary green.
Very hilly course - I would reccommend using a cart.

Perched on the Niagara Escarpment, Lowville has wonderful views from its rolling 18 holes. Long par-4's & challenging par-3's make it an enjoyable round.

Lots of undulation, great views, fast greens, a little slow pace of play, take a cart don't walk

Highly recommended , can't wait to come back!! Staff were friendly and provided great tips on selected holes.

It took over five and a half hours to play. There were players hitting 3 balls at a time, foursomes splitting up into twosomes. It was a very painful round.

Staff should let the customer know that there is a tournament happening.

The Marshals should as encourage everyone to watch the pace of play.

greens were slow and bumpy.

The fairway on this course wasn't very well maintained (maybe difficult to do, since it's on the side of the escarpment). Parts of the fairways were almost like playing out of the rough (or weeds). Bunkers also had WAY too much sand in them.
Tee times were overbooked. Waits were 5-10 minutes for each tee and fairway shot. It was a long weekend, granted, but tee times every 8 minutes on a challenging course makes for a long round.
I had no issues with the construction. Glad the facility is making the necessary upgrades. Temporary green (14th) and shortened hole (18th) weren't issues to me. Both of these holes will be spectacular once completed.
If the tee times were more spaced out and maintenance crews paid more attention to the holes that weren't under construction, I would recommend this facility.
Will try again after construction. Having those holes open might space the groups out a bit more. Plenty of other good courses in the area. Will try those before returning to Lowville.

Two holes under construction. This was not called to my attention at time of booking. The temporary green on #14 is a joke. Wait until all the construction is completed before playing this course.

The 14th and 18th holes are currently being used as a
par 3 with the 14th a bit of a joke to say the least.
Will play Lowville again once the irrigation upgrades
are complete. Over priced under current conditions
but as always. Beautiful view.

First the really great new: the pace of play was awesome! We finished in just a little more than 3.5 hours and that's because of a last minute addition to the group! The staff were fantastic and getting you out and moving people along. Although it looks easy, the course can be challenging; especially if you're not on the fairway. The value for this course is usually unbeatable.

But, they are still under construction on two holes and the course is not playing the way it should. The temporary greens and changes are silly (2 par 4s into 2 par 3s? Wrecks up the handicap)! However, we will play again when the work is finished and I do expect it to be great!

The good
-Front 9 in great shape
-greens fairways and rough all trimmed perfectly

The bad
- due to a pond renovation some holes have been shortened
-way not be worth the money

You can tell management is really trying to improve an already decent course so for this year may not be the best choice for a round but after all the construction is completed it will definitely be worth the money!!

Many recent improvements make this a very interesting round.
