Thundering Waters Golf Club
About
Thundering Waters Golf Club, so named for its proximity to the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, has a unique layout that combines a parkland course with the tricky elements of a heathland golf course. There is an interesting combination of drivable par 4s and scenic par 3s that will provide a formidable test for even the most skilled players. The golf course first winds through heavily wooded patches and then finds its way to rugged hills dotted with thick fescue where true links-style holes with deep bunkers and large, undulating greens await you. The layout also features several doglegs and more than 100 bunkers strategically placed throughout. Water hazards come into play on 10 holes. Thundering Waters Golf Club was Canada's first John Daly signature golf course.

Great Round
First group off at 6:30 meant a great pace of play. Course was in excellent condition, except for a few bunkers that hadn't been maintained.
6 par 5's and 6 par 3's make for a great day for me as those are the better scoring holes for me = Low round of the year.
Greens ran quick and true.
Course is a bit short, but there is lots of trouble and the greens undulate enough for me to have more 3 putts than normal.
The challenge of this course is the tighness of the fairways and tricky greens.
Didn't particularily like the course layout. Several of the holes were confusing becuase the flag on the adjacent green was parallel and visable from the fairway. There was no marshall on duty and the group in front of us had the course backed up for at least three holes with our group waiting on every tee and finishing almost 30 minutes off pace. The bunkers were not raked and divot marks on the fairways not repaired. The water in the ball washers was very durty. In all, we were disappointed with the course.
terrible maintenance staff
out of 18 holes the ground staff was on 8 of them driving right behind us as we tried to hit our shots, walking across the greens on par 3's as we hit our shots, cutting the grass as we tried to putt. With all the courses in the area we'll never go back
marshall complaint
The first tee the marshall told us we coyldnt use our driver because we would slow people down, when 3 out if 4 of us could have easily cleared the creek. I just didnt think it was appropriate him telling us what we could use .thanks
Course meet expectaions , but fell short on upkeep
Greens were shaggy, with plenty of ball marks. Bunkers were hard packed. if you are going to use JD to promote your course, standards of upkeep need to be maintained, although I found the fairways well maintained
Nice course.
The course is playable for both women & men. Some challenging holes.
Nice course
The course is challenging and has an interesting mix of holes. It is very picturesque and conditions have improved over those encountered several years ago when it was a disaster.
The main problem here is people who do not believe in fixing ball marks on greens, raking bunkers, and filling in divots in fairways, even though carts are equipped with sand/seed bottles. The second large problem is people who do not believe that a round of golf could/should be played in under 4 1/2 hours. Nearly 5 hours to play is simply unacceptable; the course should invest in marshalls who have the authority to move slow players along for the betterment of the golfing experience of everyone.
Great course - would play it again in a heartbeat.
Early Tee-Time met with dew on the greens and fairways. Lost a couple of strokes to par from mushy areas near the greens. Overall, loved the course. It's got a really southern feel to it, lots of hilly lies, lots of hilly greens with quite a bit of undulation. You need to take a look at the greens before executing your shot and be committed to your thought/shot. Would go back in a heartbeat. The GPS added a great tool to know what club to use when. The par 5's (5 in all) are somewhat limiting in that it was pretty much impossible to see the green for a long hitter on their 2nd shot. I laid up counted on my short game to get it close. The bunkers are deep! The sand is excellent! The greens we're pristine and true. Really enjoyed this track -- great job on the layout for sure. Turned an old rail-yard into an excellent course. I'd have to agree, this course is the most exciting in the Niagara Region.
Great course, not really long but challenging, a lot of sand, good amount of water.
The course was in beautiful shape, great sight lines, smart layout, a lot of variety... The kind of course you could play a few days a week and never get bored.
Great course, good value if booked early enough
Great course that challeneges the player. Conditions were great and the course was in phenomenal condition.
The starter was a little rude and I have experienced this behaviour twice now.
Overall impressed with the conditions and staff, save for the issues with the starter.
Nice course, agree with some other reviews
We played this course on Canada day and were a bit disappointed to find out that what some of the other reviewers have written is entirely correct, the housing developments that are being built on the course, are literally right on top of the club house and entry to the course, but thankfully they aren't on any holes that I can remember other than 9 and 18. I can only assume what they say about the range previously existing range is true as there was not one on site which was a bit disappointing. The pace of play started out extremely rough as we played the first three holes in just over an hour, however the first par 3 really opened things up and became much more manageable from there. As far as the course, it was well maintained and challenging. Greens were a bit tricky but fair, and the fairways were well manicured. As far as the general course, I would have expected a bit more "grip and rip it" type golf being a Daly course, but this course will certainly make you think about your shots and use every club in the bag. Should I ever find myself in the area I would consider playing this course again.
Good layout, course maintenance requires attention.
A very tight course, challenging layout.
If you want to charge $60+/round I would suggest maintaining the course to the standards that people expect at that price point.
The greens were slow, the fescue is an uncontrolled jungle, weeds are taking over in both the rough and fairways. The bunkers were in horrible condition. There are a lot of bunkers on this course. As a result they require attention to be maintained properly. There is nothing worse than unmaintained bunkers. If you don't want to staff your maintenance crew appropriately to maintain the bunkers then do yourself a favour and fill half of them in.
Great Morning!
We arrived a little early for our T-Time, bag drop area was just being set up, starter moved us up, asked if we had played the course before, Found the course to be in great shape (note we where the 2nd group off) if the guys in the group in front of us read this review - replace your divots! is it that hard to walk up and pick up the slab of grass you tore up! Other then that we have no complaints - bunkers as always play into where you have to hit your T-shot. If you tend to spray the ball you will be in for a long day, and you better bring lots of balls! This course has some pretty narrow spots! Had a great day, played my best round so far this year, on a course that normally beats me up pretty bad!
Great course
Course is very good conditioned . All fairway are superb All fairway bunkers are in play. If u are a long hitter , par 5 are reachable in two due to par five distance are not too far. Only one hole I do not like is hole 18 . Houses are too close to the green plus they got ugly fences
can't wait to go back
No other course in Ontario reminds me more of the Carolinas, especially holes #11 thru #16.
Greens were very good - not too fast, and very true. The course was a bit wet from heavy rain, so the only complaint was the condition of the bunkers.
I will be back....soon.
Lots of options
Long cart driving between tee's but well marked and worth the drive. Greens nicely undulated and good to read, speed was consistant, tough rough, and very difficult deep bunkers. The gps in carts very helpfull. There's no driving range, but adequit warm up cages.
Bad management of facilities.
Tee off time was 15 min behind. No Marshall's on the course so players in front of us were very slow play and would not let us play through. Food at the halfway house was burnt and did not have anything the menu said. Staff at the halfway house was not very friendly at all. Love the course and challenge but needs better management. Also the grass on greens was growing over holes so holes not cut clean
Immaculate
As always the course was in tremendous shape even after heavy rains. Challenging bunkers throughout. Staff were great.
some holes are far apart but plays very well
the course was well maintained, staff was friendly and helpful, played at 6 30 am, not many golfers on course was able to play without any waiting, perfect time to play, had a great experience
