14th tee at Glen Abbey. One of the toughest drives on tour. Photo submitted by Chris5757223 on 02/12/2016
Slow Play
Too many poor golfers jammed together in 4 and 5 somes in front of us. Had to relocate holes after 11. No one monitoring pace of play.
Great conditions
Just a few ball marks. They used to give out ball mark repair tools to every golfer. No more, but
greens rolled true - 31 putts for me and maybe only 2-3 bounces combined from all of our foursomes putts.
Sand was well raked (and i got to hit out of it 13x!) Practice facility is included - lots of balls and a great sand bunker to drop balls into and practice from.
Reception of staff is good. Halfway house wasn’t quick but are they ever? Was a great day, great round and our playing partners were a pleasure (we just got paired up with them). Can’t wait to go back and i remember why this used to be one of my fave courses when i lived in Oakville.
Glen Abbey - A Hidden GEM
Glen Abbey is a "gem" of a golf course in Oakville. The course is maintained superbly; the staff are fantastic, the food is really quite delicious.
I would encourage anyone golf enthusiast from beginner to seasoned players to come and give it a go; you won't regret it. The course play is beautifully timed.
Great course
Played both days of the weekend - love the course right now. Greens are a little slower in the valley and unfortunately there are some ? oil burns on the valley greens (especially #14). That notwithstanding definitely a great course and excellent value for money.
Memories
Love this track and all the Canadian Open memories. 17 green needs a redesigned but otherwise course is great.
There was a time…
There was a time… When golfing at Glen Abbey was a bucket list adventure. After a three year absence, I decided to play again. And it was quite disappointing. From the time I arrived in the parking lot or two arriving at the first hall, my staff experience was a unhelpful almost to the point of distain. Starter was great. The ones lush fairways and beautiful bunkers of Glen Abbey are no more come out replaced with something I would expect from a $50 course. It is quite sad, but given that club link is trying to sell the place and has been for quite a while perhaps it is understandable. I just wish that the price would reflect more appropriately what you get.
Great Course that needs better service
The course was in great shape. Pace of play was perfect on the front nine but crawled to a snails pace on the back nine because they started groups on both 1 and 10. We were surprised that the service was sub par. No bag drop and person who handled carts was not particularly friendly or helpful. No drink cart was ever seen during our round and when we finished no one was around to tell us what to do with our golf cart and no signs posted telling us where to leave it. This seemed strange for a premium golf course.
Disapointed
For a Club Link course I was disappointed with the condition of the course and the absence of marshals to improve speed of play.
When I played here many years ago it was a top end course.
Love the course - hate the pace!
Great golf course!
As it is somewhat of a tourist attraction, it seems to attract a lot of none-golfers killing the pace of play.
PGA Championship Club & Course - didn’t see so
1st time playing here. Was shocked to be able to get a tee time due to the (so called) prestige of the course. On arrival everything was self serve, grab a cart, load your clubs, proceed to pro-shop, got directions to range - hit a few balls and off to 1st. Was expecting a country club experience was more like a municipal. Course plays well - especially when hitting from golds. As with any round, smart, target golf is key - especially on back 9 (valley holes). Front is fairly forgiving. Fairways and greens were in good shape, tee boxes not so much - lots of divots. Overall, given the lack of country club experience- it was a tad expensive (but I did play at 11am on Father’s Day). Would play again at a cheaper rate. Overall this was more about chalking up playing at a “championship” course.
