Glen Abbey review
Glen Abbey has always had challenges in course conditioning except for the one week a year they have intermittently hosted the Canadian Open but it’s quite clear that Clublink has stopped putting any funding into course or infrastructure improvements. While greens were good on July 10, the rest of the course was baked out and quite rough in many spots. And the cart paths and other infrastructure of the course are decidedly poor. Even though I got a “good” deal on GolfNow for this round, I’m pretty sure I won’t pay to play at GA again. And I’ve got a sneaky suspicion this is what Clublink wants to see happen so they can justify their push to have the golf course land converted to residential and commercial uses.
Love this course
Glen Abbey is a one of a kind challenge. There are so many excellent holes. Played off the blue tees, and even in a best ball format we felt pushed by two-somes. That would be my only concern.
Disappointed
I've played Abbey about 50 times over the past 35 years and this time was extremely disappointing at the conditions of the course. It looked like it hadn't been watered all year. I was planning on booking multiple times this year but now I'll be looking elsewhere.
Average
Was only worth it because I paid 100$ and practiced for 1.5 hour on their great range. Do not pay full price for this place. Not worth it.
I don’t find this course to be nearly as good as some of the other Clublink properties like Greystone or Glencairn. I also think it’s overpriced. Some of the greens were in poor condition and they don’t have any beverage carts only the halfway house to get drinks. Overall it really isn’t worth the money.
Needs a return to past glory
Having played Glen Abbey a number of times and attended the RBC Canadian Open on this sit e I always had high praise for it. Until now, course conditions have rapidly deteriorated with an obvious budget cut. Bunkers are not raked properly And the green surrounds are mediocre at best. A surprise to me but maybe a sign of the times
A restoration or renovation is required and soon!
expecting more
it s a nice course pretty wide open i guess i was expecting more wow but its not there i would play it again if the price was right
Repair your ball marks people
The course could be even better if the lazy ones to a second to fix their ball marks on the greens ( and do it properly)
Slow Play
Too many poor golfers jammed together in 4 and 5 somes in front of us. Had to relocate holes after 11. No one monitoring pace of play.
Great conditions
Just a few ball marks. They used to give out ball mark repair tools to every golfer. No more, but
greens rolled true - 31 putts for me and maybe only 2-3 bounces combined from all of our foursomes putts.
Sand was well raked (and i got to hit out of it 13x!) Practice facility is included - lots of balls and a great sand bunker to drop balls into and practice from.
Reception of staff is good. Halfway house wasn’t quick but are they ever? Was a great day, great round and our playing partners were a pleasure (we just got paired up with them). Can’t wait to go back and i remember why this used to be one of my fave courses when i lived in Oakville.
Glen Abbey - A Hidden GEM
Glen Abbey is a "gem" of a golf course in Oakville. The course is maintained superbly; the staff are fantastic, the food is really quite delicious.
I would encourage anyone golf enthusiast from beginner to seasoned players to come and give it a go; you won't regret it. The course play is beautifully timed.
Great course
Played both days of the weekend - love the course right now. Greens are a little slower in the valley and unfortunately there are some ? oil burns on the valley greens (especially #14). That notwithstanding definitely a great course and excellent value for money.
