14th tee at Glen Abbey. One of the toughest drives on tour. Photo submitted by Chris5757223 on 02/12/2016
Very disappointed, no longer the Glenn Abbey I once knew...in short someone knowledgeable needs to spend the day there , seems the service offered and level is that of a farmers course
I would say Glenn Abbey management wake up
Steve
Good conditions for a change
Glenn Abbey is an amazing course that everyone should try to play a few times but do it when conditions are soft because they don’t tend to water the fairways and the greens get very hard. Balls don’t tend to stick on the greens. This is true of the greens when the pros play it too so it’s just the way it plays but the fairways could be better maintained. Same for the bunkers. The bunkers can be without enough sand and your club can bounce off the hard dirt underneath skulling the ball no matter how hard you hit down and it just depends on which bunker you’re in. It happened to a pro leading the Open a few years ago and he lost because of it.
Driving range could be better. They don’t move the area enough and sometimes there can be almost no grass to hit off.
Lol. Other than that I do really like playing the course because the design is amazing and it’s a beautiful picturesque amazing place to play.
PS: Better know how to play out of bunkers. There’s millions of them.
Great Course and Staff
The course was fantastic as expected and so was the staff, all so helpful and cordial at all ends!
Disappointing
I e played this course several times over the last 5 or 6 years and I have to say that the facilities are looking “tired”
I’ve volunteered at the open here many times so I’ve seen the course at it’s finest, but I’ve played here enough to know when it is being neglected.
Fairways and greens were poorly manicured for a course of this stature.
The few staff that they seemed to have there were somewhat friendly but seemed kind of “indifferent” towards my wife and I.
We came here to celebrate our Anniversary, it certainly have no intentions of playing there again.
There’s a lot of much nicer courses in the GTA, for a lot less money!
Glen Abbey June 2
The first hole par 5 the flag was 50 yards in front of the green? No communication from the starter, none from the pro shop and none at time of booking.
The greens were terrible. They were not terrible due to too dressing or air rating the greens they were simply not cut, ants everywhere, no ball mark repairs, so slow. I had clients with me and it was extremely embarrassing.
No beverage cart on the course
Needs work
I love this course; however as of late the conditions are not ideal. The greens were not cut or rolled, still have a temporary green, the pace of play was very slow, there were no marshalls keeping the pace moving, one group had a five someone in front of us, etc etc. A beautiful course that clearly needs some attention and work to make it where it should be.
They are letting a beautiful course go to waste
An insult to Jack Nicklaus as they are not maintaining this course
Course Under Maintenance - No Notification Given
While the course is probably fairly solid on a normal day, there were 3 greens that were temporary.
This is a totally understandable thing that happens in order to maintain the course but with that much work being done it would be fair to expect a warning before paying a hefty price for a round. Had I been told ahead of time I would have spent money elsewhere and come back another time.
Disappointing.
Poor condition for green fees paid
Since they've lost the Canadian open the course has gone downhill, greens are slow and don't roll true. Rough is all cut down and makes the course much easier to play. Not impressed for the cost to play.
Pace of play was very slow. Waited on every hole and every shot. No marshalls seen. I expected better conditions for a course that at this time of year could be hosting the Canadian Open .For a venue that regularly charges over $200 the conditions were very unacceptable. The staff were very helpful and the dinner afterward was very nice.
Great course
We had a great day at Glen Abbey. The practice facilities are first rate and are included. The course is always in great shape. Playing here with all the forced carries over bunkers will make you appreciate just how good the pros are. Thank you to golf now for making it affordable.
