14th tee at Glen Abbey. One of the toughest drives on tour. Photo submitted by Chris5757223 on 02/12/2016
Based on price and expectations it is such a poor course
I’ve played the Abbey a few times now and today will be my last. For a championship course it’s just so very, very poor. We tee’d off on 10. The washroom was an grotesque dump in a building that needs to be torn down. So embarrassing. The course itself was ok. But so many unkept, dry and tired looking spots all over the course. Tee boxes chewed up. Weeds in a lot of places. If I was a Clublink member and this was my main course I’d be furious. I normally play Piper’s Heath and by comparison it is just beautiful. From tee box to greens so much better and way, way better value for money. Glen Abbey is a place you go to play to say you did and never go back. There are lots of better places to play. I’m from Oakville, I want the Abbey to remain a golf course. We don’t need more homes but it is clear to everyone ClubLink are dying to sell it and have stopped all investment. It’s a real shame.
Lots of history
I’ve always wanted to play glen abbey because of the history. The course layout was awesome and made you think on every hole.
I would have given 5 stars but the one issue I had was that the tee boxes were not in the condition you would expect at a course for the price and prestige. The majority were not level and not maintained well.
9th green had a lot of ball marks for some reason. More so than any other green.
Having fun at the Abbey.
The course is beautifully designed with well kept greens. The service could have been better. Beverages were only available in the pro shop. However, I enjoyed the challenge.
NO Longer World Class
It is a shame to see this World Class Golf Course be run into the ground. In talking to a staff member, hardly any greens keeper staff have returned and the course shows it. Sand traps have not been worked on since the course opened. The grass is growing in them. Tee boxes are in deployable state. Numerous divots marks in Tee Boxes, on the course, and on the greens. The owner has filed an application to demolish this course and develop homes on it, but it is a shame to see it in this condition. Better courses around the GTA for half the money.
Meh-poor service, slow play
-Played with my 14y old son. When I called, they told me to book on line at full price rate and they would adjust. When we got there, guy at proshop would not adjust to junior rate despite the fact it was on website.
—we booked for 11:12am. They moved us up to 11am with out calling or emailing eating into our warmup.
-4:45min round. No marshals pushing pace of play.
- copper creek and Osprey much more professional.
Can’t cancel!!
I tried to contact someone to cancel or rebook but got no response at all. Because of Covid I was told I cannot golf and relayed the same to Glen Abbey - they assured me I would get a cancel confirmation but nothing came through. Please explain.
Always a treat.
They have great deals going on right now. With Covid-19 it isnt as lavish as it has been in the past.
Check it out if you havent before. One of the best courses in the country.
So nice
Well maintained and beautiful layout. Favourite course I've played!
Great experience
Kudos to Glen Abbey for making all the necessary changes required to open given the new “Covid” guidelines. The course is in beautiful condition and the entire experience was great! Thank-you. Your efforts were evident.
For Nostalgia Only
The course is worth it just to say you have played it. Aside from a 4-5 hole stretch on the back 9 it is a very boring back and forth course. It is in good shape however for the price i'`d rather play a different course. Worth 50-60 mayb but definitely not the almost $100 its usually at.
History
I picked to play here because of the history. It's cool to walk and play the same course as the pros have in the past. The pro shop has no almost no golf amenities to purchase which is unfortunate especially for first time players. The course is in decent condition except for a few spots on a couple greens which are a bit bumpier then others. Not worth being over priced. $150 gives you better options.
Feels like the management are not taking good care of the course. Greens are bad.
