14th tee at Glen Abbey. One of the toughest drives on tour. Photo submitted by Chris5757223 on 02/12/2016
Finally played the Abbey
I’m glad I was able to play this course especially a few weeks after the Canadian Open. Course is very well maintained. Unfortunately a storm came through making the course virtually unplayable. It’s not cheap but worth the experience.
5.5 hours to play is ridiculous. The group in front of us looked like they had never hit a golf ball before.
Great Course But
Course is great, but the management for the pace of play was horrible. Ended up playing for 6 hours. At on point, there were 6 groups on one hole, 4 groups waiting to tee of, one in the fairway and one on the green. No one came to offer a solution or compensation. Ended up playing 3 holes in the dark. This was a very bad experience for is. We have never ever ran in to this kind of situation anywhere else we have played, across Canada and the States.
TOo many people
Now ... don’t get me wrong... I like people
People are good
But even the best people need time on the golf course .
Today however, we were jammed up right from hole # 2
Five hours and we could only finish 14 holes properly.
Too many groups going off
Nine minutes apart is a recipe for disaster here
The course was in phenomenal shape.. the open here last week so I can imagine everyone wants on ..
Just too many groups
A gem worth playing and saving.
This was my first time at glen abbey. And wow it is more beautiful to play than just watching on tv. Very thick rough amazing bunkers and perfect greens (though tough. ). Apparently this course is set to be demolished and turned into a housing development. That would truly be sad. Let’s try to keep this gem open and find another space to develop.
Cheers David.
Glen Abbey is still grand
Played this course due to the ongoing discussions to shut it down. Played it in the past prior to it being a Clublink course. Still a great track. A Canadian icon.
A must play!
Played just three days after DJ won Canadian Open here. A great course, very fair to play (played from blue tees), with interesting green complexes to challenge you. Rough around the greens was very long and lush, perhaps still not cut back from tournament. Course was a little busy and loud with deconstruction of spectator stands and such, but this had no impact on play. It was a treat to play a course that you just spent hours watching on tv.
One negative was pace of play. Course used split tees for afternoon tee times, which was no issue.
We teed off on number 10. Starter there was friendly and welcoming. Group immediately in front of us was painfully slow, leaving a large gap between them and groups ahead. My specific complaint was that there was never an on course marshal to help move play along at a respectable pace. Even if the starter at number one had still been in place as groups made the turn, some of this could have been mitigated.
Overall round took well over 5 hours to play. (Unacceptable anywhere) So word to the wise for booking late afternoon times, there would be a great chance of not completing your round.
Slow!!!!
I have played this course many many times. This is absolutely the worst experience with slow play i have ever had. 6 HOURS!!!! Pathetic!!!!
Not thrilled
The course is always fun to play but I don't like small tyne holes in the greens without notification. This is not fair. We pay top dollar to play on maintenance greens? C'mon nowwww.
what a fantastic scenery of 11th hole!
i was surrended by the fine view of 11th hole.
the course had its own fascinating value.
The truth
I had read some recent reviews online about the 11th and twelfth holes. Eleven having a temporary green, and twelve a temporary hole. So I called Golfnow and asked them to call the course to check on the status of those two holes before booking. We were assured that was no longer the case. So we booked and headed to the course with much anticipation. We arrived early enjoyed the range, a drink overlooking 18, a cheeseburger that wasn't worth the price. Once we got on to the first green we realized that it had been very recently top dressed. So not as smooth or fast as normal, but oh well. Then we get to #11. It is a strangely shaped green. Almost U shaped. Only one small part of one side was open. Then we got to # 12. Not playing the real hole but a temporary hole that was a joke. Needless to say we weren't pleased being lied to by Clublink / Glen Abbey. We had a beautiful day of weather and otherwise the course was in nice condition.
Great day
Its always a great day at GA
They are starting to get the course ready for the open and it is in great shape
Great Day
This had to be the calmest day I have ever played here. What a gorgeous day to play here. Always a pleasure. The greens were not great but it is only May 26th. It can only get better. We played the tips. I hit driver 6 iron pin high on 18. We had a blast of a day.....
