Great course
First time we played there. Was really good value for money and a very pleasant lay-out. Would strongly suggest it to every “average” golfer, like me!
Beautiful view !
The course is very nicely laid out and the view was great. Greens were just air rated so they were very slow and bumpy.
Good shape for every spring
considering it was early May and there was still some snow visible on the ski slopes, I thought the course was in good shape. some greens were rough but you need to consider it is early spring on a ski slope. Excellent price to play a very lovely course.
Need to remind myself not to play at courses that are also resorts. Golf generally comes second at these places and it shows.
Tough course
Played this in late Oct, in fairness to the management there was no cart service. Greens were great, rough played tough, have played this course at least 3 times every year. Great scenery in the fall.
Fun resort course
Pleasant resort golf course with plenty of scenic views. The holes are laid out around, over and between numerous hills creating fun and different challenges with elevation changes. The resort itself is quite charming as is the associated winery close by (Adamo). The staff were very friendly.
Beautiful views
Very scenic & challenging course, especially as it was quite a windy day. All staff encountered were very professional, helpful & friendly. Would definitely play it again
Not worth the Drive
I played Hockley Valley on September 8th, and overall, I was fairly disappointed with the course and the facilities overall.
Don't get me wrong, I believe at one point Hockley Valley was a much better course than it was the day I played, but the conditions of the tee boxes, fairways, and greens were all poor. There was lots of brush around the tee blocks playing from the blacks, and on multiple holes obstructing the tee shot itself. The greens were quite slow, and in some instances a bit shaggy.
Another thing that seemed quite odd was the par 3s that were extremely elevated. This makes sense because it is a ski resort in the winter, so most of of the time you're playing off the hills, but playing from have what must have been 75ft+ elevation changes from tee box to green seemed less than ideal.
I think if they put more time into the course, improved the overall condition, added a driving range, put sand back in the bunkers, this course could be something, but in its current state, it is not worth the drive from Toronto. There are much nicer courses in the area for about the same price (I paid ~$50 to play).
Bring your hiking boots
Thank goodness carts are mandatory on this course it's mostly built on ski hills some serious elevation changes.
Who is Hockley set up for?
I got a great price at golf now but I was quite disappointed in my experience. Firstly as a single I was put with a 3 sum. All nice guys but we were constantly played through by two sums and even a single! Why wouldn’t they have put me with a two sum or single or joined up groups into more four sums ? Made zero sense.
The course has some nice scenic holes. Very scenic. However the fairways were ridiculously narrow and any ball even 4 feet into the rough has a good chance of not being found. Maybe this is what they think is a tough course? It only allows short ( course is not long) straight hitters to do well. If you are a long hitter and want to use 7 irons off the tee to hit the fairways enjoy! I’ll go to lion head where for the same price I can hit driver 10 feet off the fairway and not lose balls. What a joke. Oh and I am not a hacker who can’t play, this course sets up well for a 75 yr old man who drives 200 yards straight. Don’t waste your time and $ !
Never Again
We were approached by the Marshall about bringing beer on the course. He demanded to search our bags and golf cart, and found none. I think Hockley has forgotten what customer service is. Harassing paying customers tends to iritate them, and they don't return.....and i won't be.
Hockley Valley Golf Course Review
Have played this course many times - but always a challenge. Only 2 holes are "flat" (1 and 18) with the rest playing either up or down hill with many elevation changes. You could describe this course as "target" golf to some degree. Usually the wind is up which makes the course even more challenging. There is something for every player with 4 different tee blocks changing the yardage considerably - but not necessarily the degree of difficulty. In order to score well, this course requires both your physical and mental focus for all 18 holes. The key is the tee shot. If that is in play that sets up the rest of the hole - regardless of par. If the tee shot is not in play then achieving par is very difficult. If playing for the first time, it's best if you can play with someone who knows the course. Elevated tees make clubbing a challenge - especially on par 3's. Course features no sand traps and very little water to worry about. Always a challenging experience that makes you want to go back and improve on your best score. On this day I happened to play with a wonderful husband and wife couple. Golf always provides one with an opportunity to meet great folks - wherever you are.
