River Bend Resort & Country Club
About
Set along the Rio Grande River, this is a scenic course with spectacular views. The front nine was built in 1987, and the back nine followed in 1992. The highlight of the course is what is perhaps the longest water hazard in Texas, the Rio Grande River, which flows along holes 5 through 13 on the left side of the fairway.
Narrow fairways and grass bunkers make the course tough, especially when the wind is howling, as it is tough to hit the small, firm greens. Water is everywhere. No. 14 is the only hole without water. The par 3 17th hole, with its island greens, headlines a series of demanding par 3 holes. The last hole plays 434 yards into the wind and has out-of-bounds on either side of the fairway.
Getting there : From Harlingen take Hwy. 77 south. When you come to Hwy. 802 turn right, then continue until you reach Hwy 281. Turn right again and drive approximately 2.5 miles to the course

Okay course, high for the cost
Layout was strangest I’d ever seen. Driving through neighborhoods half the time. Staff was friendly. Most fairways and greens in pretty good shape.
Fairway
If you land on fairway, majority of them are hard as concrete and have little to no fluff. Brownsville golf center has better fluff and they use backyard grass.
Good bang for the buck
Greens had just been punched, so they were a bit rough, but I really enjoy playing River Bend. Wish No. 9 still played as a par 4, but overall, it's got a variety of holes, good pace of play, and a friendly, helpful staff.
Good course length from the blues for average golfers.
Greens were recently aerated and sanded which presented challenging putting. Fairways mostly grass but need some watering as the sod in some areas is hard. Great golf course, will play it again in the near future and inexpensive.
Slow play
Must have been a tournament or something going on. Took me 4 hours by myself and the 3 ladies in front were super slow and would not let me play threw. If there is a tournament the pro shop should tell you and Again there is never any water in the club cleaner on the carts. So I poured my own bottle of water in and it ran out all over the ground.
