Eighteen Hole at Valley International Country Club

About
Set amongst the tall palm trees and tropical conditions, this 18-hole course was one of the first tracks in the Rio Grande Valley. Built on both sides of the coastal tributary, water comes into play on 12 holes. Beware of the wind, but when it's calm your tee shots will find wide fairways and generous landing areas, and the approaches are into medium-sized greens with an average speed. Get to know the speed of these fair greens and you will start rolling in 10-20 footers with confidence.
Hole 4 is the number one handicap and plays 422 yards from the tips, where water crosses the fairway in the landing area and menaces over the right side of the hole. Other notable holes are the long par 3 10th hole with its peninsula green, as well as the 17th (512-yard par 5), which is loaded with water on the right that crosses in front of the green.
Getting there : On south Hwy. 77, exit FM 802 and turn right. Proceed to McAllen Rd and turn left, where the road eventually dead-ends at the parking lot.

VICC GOLF
The course and greens are in very good shape. I rolled a shot 2 feet past the pin on hole 10; almost a hole in one!
Fortunately, two ladies on a stroll saw the shot and yelled "Nice Shot." My best round in years.

A Perfect Day at VICC
The greens and Tee boxes keep improving. However, we lost several balls in the fairway and the rough ate more balls. We used 4 different color balls and lost several of all the colors. They were cutting so maybe the rough will be more friendly this weekend.

Decent course
Played early morning round as a single. Was at the tee box a few minutes early and a group looked like they were warming up to tee off as their 4th just arrived. They were kind enough to let me play through on the 3rd tee. However the 4some in front of them dictated the pace the rest of the round. Spent about an hour in total waiting at tee boxes or for them to finish their putts. A 3 hour round turned into 4. The course was a little tricky to navigate since it was in a retirement community but the greens were nicer than most in the Rio Grande Valley. Fairways were decent but the tee boxes could have used some work. I'd play here again especially for the price.

Greens were good for south Texas and the drought. Fairways were cut. Not too busy this time of year on weekdays.
