Eighteen Hole at Valley International Country Club

About
Set amongst the tall palm trees and tropical conditions, this 18-hole course was one of the first tracks in the Rio Grande Valley. Built on both sides of the coastal tributary, water comes into play on 12 holes. Beware of the wind, but when it's calm your tee shots will find wide fairways and generous landing areas, and the approaches are into medium-sized greens with an average speed. Get to know the speed of these fair greens and you will start rolling in 10-20 footers with confidence.
Hole 4 is the number one handicap and plays 422 yards from the tips, where water crosses the fairway in the landing area and menaces over the right side of the hole. Other notable holes are the long par 3 10th hole with its peninsula green, as well as the 17th (512-yard par 5), which is loaded with water on the right that crosses in front of the green.
Getting there : On south Hwy. 77, exit FM 802 and turn right. Proceed to McAllen Rd and turn left, where the road eventually dead-ends at the parking lot.

Poor conditions and a boring layout. If you get a cheap rate and you’re just looking for a place to knock the rust off then this course will do. You’ll have to move the ball around to get any kind of a decent lie, and I refused to putt on what they were calling greens, but as there are no decent driving ranges or practice areas around Brownsville for $10-$12 you can make this place work. Not too many players to keep you from hitting a variety of shots on any given hole. Bring a sledgehammer if you intend to use a tee

Fairways are dormant. No sprinkler water

I would recommend at low rate only.

Gold Day
Poor quality golf course. Worst I have ever played. Need to hire employees to work on the course. Lots of fungus on the greens. Very little grass. Terrible odor on the course. Won't be back.

Get what you pay for
Could be a good layout. Probably was in its day. Now, it is tired and in poor shape. Expected better even this time of year (Feb). Greens were bumpy, Weed throughout the fairways and tee boxes. Bunkers looked miserable, but I managed to avoid them. Best part was playing on Sunday as a twosome and getting around in just over 3 hours. Played through a foursome early and never ran into anyone else.

Golf in Texas
Greens were in good shape but fairways need water. Need better marking to show where the next hole is. We got lost trying to find the 4th hole.

Practice
The course is a good practice course the fairways are firm as are the greens. The green were fast and seems to putt true. They appeared quite mottled but I did not have a problem with the ball staying true. The fairway in places were sparse but you could always find suitable grass within a few feet. I could not play the ball down but this round was in the winter. Overall I had fun

Challenging course, great value
This course was fun and challenging. It was our first time there so better markings and more signs would have been appreciated. There were very friendly people playing the course that were helpful showing us the way. Not as well groomed as the high price courses, but it was not bad.
