Southern Oaks Golf & Tennis Club

Course has improved from first visit and looks like the best is yet to come. Great value and fun course to play for any level. Gets a little crowded on weekends because word is getting around about improvements.

This course offers a wide variety of features and distances and very few notable water hazards. For someone, like myself, just learning the game, not being punished for each mistake is a huge plus. Two minor downsides were the groups felt a bit too clumped, whether we caught up to someone or they caught up to us, there wasn't a single hole we played that we didn't have at least one other group at. The other downside was a notable lack of social interaction. No greetings when we arrived, we paid and headed out with very few words exchanged. Still, limited interactions are better than negative ones. I do recommend this course.

I have wanted to play Southern Oaks after hearing one of my golfing partners say nothing but good things about this course. I will have to concur, it is a very nice course. I played it on a Wednesday morning 2 days after we had a good rain. The course was relatively dry greens rolled true and fairways had nice sod. Bunkers were still a little damp but this is to be expected after rain. One or two needed a good raking to assist in drying out and there were a few small stones but nothing that would damage your wedges if hit. Lots of improvements still going on in the back nine and this will make me bring my foursome out very soon. It is nice to find a "GEM"hidden not to far away. It is only a 20 minute drive from the Hurst/NRH area. Maybe I should not talk so highly of this course so it will stay a Gem and not be overcrowded. Yeah, this is a terrible course so do not go play there.lmao, (NOT)

It's currently dormant, but it's obvious to see that when it greens up for the summer it's going to be very nice. Pace of play was very slow, but I was following a fivesome on the tail end of their Saturday morning men's league. Pro shop staff gets 5 stars, as does the beverage cart girl.

Our group, The Grumpy Old Men, played the course for a second time since the new ownership has taken over. The changes are remarkable from the course conditions to the staff from the man who handles the carts to the food and beverage and food staff. I see the maintenance staff continuing to make daily improvements in the course.

Have played here often, one of my fav's even when it wasn't in perfect condition. But lately...man, it is in great shape. Greens are smooth and true.....with just enough undulation to to make you think a bit. Nice bunkers in good spots and they are re-working some to make them better. If you haven't played here...give it a try!

Southern Oaks is an old time favorite. Have not played since the change of management. The course is in pretty good shape except for two or three greens. The new tee box on 17 changes the entire hole, we liked it. Had a great time. Thanks

I've played this golf course over the past 10 years or so. It's always been a nice layout but over the years had fallen into disrepair with poor course conditions due to ownership financial problems. The new ownership over the past year has been investing heavily in all aspects of the club...course conditions, driving range, and clubhouse and if this continues, it will definitely be a place to play on a regular basis.

Enjoyed the layout of this challenging course. I believe you'll have to play it a couple of times before you to understand where to play the holes to optimize your score. They obviously are improving the course as workers were on several holes and understood that the golfer is to be yielded to. Greens are not super fast but undulating therefore difficult. I will return!

New ownership is making quality upgrades and keeping the course in fine shape.

Had an absolute blast. The course was in great shape and the greens roll very true. Everybody on the staff from the guy that got our bags, to the pro shop, even down to the people in the grill were fantastic. They all had smiles on their faces and greeted you warm and promptly. There was nobody else on the course when we teed off so pace of play was great. Had an absolute blast and am considering joining the club because of how fantastic my experience was both times I have played there.

Course in good shape for winter conditions with the exception of ground under repair for new bunkers. Greens in great shape.

Extensive improvement of traps and sprinkler system. Super advance since spring when course was in bad condition. New owner is going to make a superior course.

Course is great and will be even greater when all the updates are completed. New tee boxes, sand bunkers, cart paths. Great layout. Course plays super long from the tips, but 4 other tee boxes available.

S. Oaks is getting better & better,from the parking lot / service to the 18th green if you haven't play there you should.

Windy day but we got out early, with no groups slowing us down. Greens are in good shape for the winter.

The course has been under new management who have taken steps to improve the conditions of the course. Clearing out underbrush, improving sand traps, new carts with GPS, updated driving range, and much better greens have helped with the golfing experience. Prices have gone up significantly which will discourage frequent play unless you find a discounted rate through places like GolfNow or Avidgolfer. The course does have drainage issues or is over watered because many areas are very soggy even when it hasn't rained recently.
