Golfer Reviews
Needs some conditioning
Second time playing this course 3 months apart, and the fairway is pretty much the same as before, DRY mostly. You can find your tee shots in position A and managed to be in a dry patch/dirt, making sure approach shot virtually impossible. Greens are in excellent condition. Overall the course has beautifil layout and has lots of potential. LOOKOUT for fire ants as they got me 3 times during my round, they are everywhere!
#17 par 3, 240 yards NOT even from the tip......just got redone...ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? Didn't know I was playing on the PGA tour.
Great Value, Solid Condition, Wonderful Layout
Played for under $30 on a Sunday at 1p, best value in DFW metroplex. Course is in solid shape: Greens smooth but hairy & slow, hold well but to hairy to get much spin, teeboxes in great shape, maybe the only knock is fairways being pretty spotty on 1/3 of the holes. Texas summer conditions, I realize. Otherwise, awesome cart girl, saw her every 4 holes, clutch! Plenty of water on course, all around good experience. J.R. FTW
Thanks for sharing the wonderful experience you had at Southern Oaks GC. See you back soon!
Midweek get away.
I wish I had played better, but we had a great time and the course was in great shape. The only thing that needs improvement are the bunkers, as some were really wet and we haven't had any rain. I still recommend this course to anyone.
Glad you had a great time during your round John. Hope to see you back at Southern Oaks soon!
Very nice golf course
This course has improved immensely in past year.
I wish the fairway bunkers were flat instead of the steep slope at the front of each one of them, makes it impossible to get out of. Other than the bunkers everything else is great.
Good shape
The course was in very good shape The staff was very friendly, Nice course for the money
Very Nice
The course has bounced back. Greens are shaping up and are very payable. Bunkers are poor and need to be redone.
Definitely most improved
A year ago I wouldn't have played here for free, since purchased by new owner course is in amazing condition fairways are like carpet and greens are receptive and roll true. Wonderful job turning this great layout around, I will be playing here weekly.
Hidden gem
The course is in great shape and is improving by the week. The cost to play this course in the condition it's in is a steal. Pace of play is always good and the best part about the course is the large flat tee boxes and the condition of the greens.
Thanks for the review! Hope to see you back soon
Good Challenge south of Ft. Worth
Very solid course with a lot of challenging holes to play. Everything about the course is in great shape except for some of the traps.
Thanks for the review. Glad you enjoyed the challenge during your round!
Staff pretty much laughed in my face!
I was enjoying my round on the front 9 with my buddy. Was able to play 9 holes in about a hour. Hit the 10th hole and it was a major traffic jam. There was a five some in front of us. They refused to let us play through and they were very slow. They weren't old but just weren't very good. I'm no pro but it's just absolutely rude to stare at a two some and say no. I told the cart girl and she rudely said to me "ugh, we allow five some here!" That's fine but if the five some is shooting in the mid 100's they need to be considerate and allow golfers to play through. I even called the clubhouse and nothing changed. Complained to the marshall and nothing changed. I will probably play this course again in the future but I'm still annoyed. Playing a round of golf with just a two some shouldn't take almost 6 hours. Absolutely ridiculous. Couldn't enjoy my round and its not that cheap to play here.
Nice course
Very Challenging! The course is in good shape and the clubhouse very nice.
Glad you enjoyed the challenge of the course and the clubhouse! Hope to see you back soon
Great Course but bring your Mosquito spray!
Very nice and up to date Club House and from what I heard, outstanding food from the grill. Great carts with GPS. Course is long with deep bunkers both green-side and in the fairway. Greens rolled well and played firm. Bring your bug spray, had several areas of standing water in 90 degree heat that they need to work on, but I will go back, great value for the $30 per player we spent on Golfnow.com
Glad you got to enjoy the GPS on the carts and got a great value for your round. Hope to see you back at Southern Oaks soon
Improved!
This course has gone through a year of renovations. New lighted range, new clubhouse remodel, new carts with GPS, and many more. Greens in great shape (a little slow) Great value through Golf Now.
Thanks for the review Durbin! Glad you enjoyed the improvements at Southern Oaks GC. Hope to see you back soon
Very good course
This course has got a ton better over the last 2 years and on it's way to a great course. I would highly recommend booking on golf now app because I played for $28 but the if you book through the course it's $58. The only bad thing about the course is the price if you can't get a tee time on golf now because there is another great course in town that's a lot cheaper.
Glad you have seen the improvements and we are only going to get better! Hope to see you back at Southern Oaks soon!
Came along way since last time i was out there
Course is getting there .still some sand traps that are nothing but hard dirt, but they said they were working on them
Glad you noticed the improvements and it will only get better! Hope to see you back at Southern Oaks soon.
Second time was better
The first time I played this course it was in pretty bad shape and I gave it a pretty poor review. I decided to try playing here again and had a much better experience the second time around. The fairways were in much better shape than the last time I played. There are still a few areas of the fairways that could use some TLC, but overall they're in good shape. The greens look good and are in pretty good shape as well. There were a few time where my ball would jump from left to right because of the bumps in the greens, but for the most part they roll true. The course is pretty wide open and allows for some mistakes if you don't hit a perfect shot. Overall I enjoyed playing here and will play here again. I don't think it will be my go-to course for the Burleson area, but it is a good option if I want to play close to home.
Hello aluppy,
Thanks for giving us another look and I'm glad to read you liked the golf course better on your second trip. What's a gal gota do to get Southern Oaks to be your home course?
Second time was better
So I initially thought this course was in bad shape and not worth the money. Afterr playing it for a second time ive changed my opinion. This time the course was in much better shape. The fairways still leave a little to be desired in some spots but not bad. The greens were in pretty good shape but arent anywhere near perfect. My ball often jumped left to right while rolling on the green. The sand traps are more like sand pits with no bottom, hard to hit out of some. Overall the course is good. I will play again sometime, but wont be my go-to course for Burleson area. Carts have GPS which is cool.
Great Course
Course was recently redone and in great condition. Still relatively unknown I think judging by the few golfers I see everytime I go. Just a matter of time before more people find out about this place. Recent deal got me range balls, 18 holes, then lunch for $17. You won't find a better deal.
Thanks for posting your review and we hope you see you back at Southern Oaks Golf Club this month.
Still needs a bit of work.
I played this course in 2001, and discovered that Mark Brooks ruined the property Southern Oaks was built on. It was a wonky, freakish layout, with odd bunker placements, advertised as a "Links" style golf course. 90% of that has changed with a Bruce Lietzke ownership group taking over. There is still the odd fairway bunker, and the course has an unusual amount of dead grass. The greens are not perfect, however the layout of the course is fair, providing cautionary as well as rip-it holes during play. Probably my favorite hole was the 245 yard 17th, where I ripped a 3-iron to about 1.5 feet. Overall I shot 75 from the back tees - 7111 yards, but it seems longer with the wind direction we had.
Wow, great round and that's a heck of a 3-iron! Thanks for reviewing the course and we appreciate you coming back, very helpful to get your perspective. Hope we'll see you again and please know we're working every day to improve the course. Hope you liked the new GPS.
Glad you enjoyed the layout and condition of the course. Sorry about your fire ant run in. Please contact me directly for a make- up promo code at bailyteetimes@gmail.com
