Southern Oaks Golf & Tennis Club

I always liked Southern Oaks and it was my main course for a few years, but the shape of the course went down and the green fees seemed to go up so I stopped going. I caught a cheap tee time today on golf now and went back. It's evident the owner has spent money on improvements in the clubhouse, staff, practice facilities, course, and carts. It is the nicest public course within 30 minutes of my house now. I didn't have time to check out the restaurant, but if it's improved, this is a fully successful golf club.

It's a challenging course from the tips and will still let you score if you are striking it well.

I have played this course several times over the last couple of years. Since the present owners took over ther have been numerous improvements. The course was in rough shape at the start of the past summer but since it has really become a very nice course to play. My wife and I both like playing. Sometimes the play is slow but no slower than any good course. We will defiantly keep playing here.

This course is in excellent condition and everyone cares about your satisfaction.

Enjoyable round, course In above average condition. Fairway grass was excellent but ground was firm and in so places down right hard. Greens were smooth but some were also too hard to hold even a good shot. Overall, will go back!! Can be played all levels due to multiple tee boxes on all hole.7300 yards from the tips!

We played this course earlier this year and not impressed with the condition at that time. We have played a couple more times lately and can't believe how much it has improved. Will be playing here much more often now. This course is well worth the money now.

The condition of the course was outstanding. The greens played very good and were in great shape. The fairways were a pleasant surprise for this time of year. Very green and played great and nicely kept.The rough is tough and lots of trees. Very Nice ! I have already told several and this is a Must play.

I had not played Southern Oaks in 17+ years, but recalled that I enjoyed it the first time in the mid-90's. It has matured into what I consider one of the more beautiful and well-kept courses in DFW, and although I was not "shocked," it was a very pleasant surprise. The upsides were:

* The cost (with a Hot Deal from Golf Now the price was LESS THAN A CART FEE for the round, range balls, and cart - RIDICULOUS!).

* The "mixed bag" of golf holes, including numerous and genuine Scottish links style holes, as well as a healthy volume of more traditional style holes guarded by a mature, wooded landscape.

* The course condition was better than expected following the heat of summer (although most courses in our area fared better than usual this summer). The greens are in outstanding condition and rolled better than average, although a little slow for my taste. The fairways were also pure, firm, and gave excellent rollout on good tee shots.

If I had anything to encourage the course to improve upon, it would be the quality and price of food and drinks, and better consistency with bunker care. Sand traps were either excellent, with soft, grainy sand - or hard packed with no sand, and substantial gravel.

Overall I would go back a hundred times, and encourage others to visit as well.

The course is in great shape . Nice scenery front nine beautiful, back nine challenging but fun. Staff and facility great. I recommend to all my golf buddies.

Just want to say I'm not a good golfer but found the course very challenging as well as forgiving...and long holes and the staff is the best:)....

Truly enjoyed the round. Nothing truly memorable but challenging enough and with the discount, a good bang for the buck.

I have always been apprehensive to try Southern Oaks based on prior reviews; good condition, then bad condition, then good, then bad. But I really enjoyed the course. It has a unique fun layout, not too hard or easy, and greens were in great shape. Fairways were in good shape as well. My only small issue was that off of the fairways the grass was dry and thin. But that is almost every course in North Texas during this drought. Easy solution is to hit it in the fairways, right? I will for sure be back and looking forward to playing it again.

As usual the greens here are in perfect condition. The course had some very minor bad spots but none of them come into play (unless you're way off target). The clubhouse is extremely nice especially after the recent redesign and the price for the round is fantastic.

Fun challenging course, well kept, lots of hazards

Great course. Great conditions. Too many singles. The food is excellent. Fairways are in excellent condition. Greens are consistent. The TCU team plays here and that can make the pace a little slow.

This is a much improved course from when I played it 2 years ago. It's clear that a lot of TLC has gone into it recently. Good fairways and teeboxes, and the greens will eventually be smooth (a bit inconsistent and bumpy right now, but still puttable.) Some bunkers have good sand, and they tell me the rest will be filled up this winter.

The staff in the pro-shop were very friendly and helpful too, as was the guy who met me at the car and loaded my clubs.

Had the pleasure of playing here for the first time after reading several reviews. The condition of the course was very impressive. The facility is well kept and very eye pleasing when you arrive. The staff was super friendly except for the cart girl who seemed like she just didn't want to be at work for the day. A gentlemen who works hospitality brings a cart to you in the parking lot which stood out to our group. They let us play a fivesome and we finished in normal time with no waiting at all. Got a great deal on golf now and even got a bucket of range balls included with my deal. I would definetly recommend playing here, and will return in the near future! The course was in great shape is difficult for high handicaps due to narrow fairways & bunkers.
