Not what it used to be.
This course has seen much better days. This used to be a really nice course. For being April this course is in awful shape. Greens are hard as a rock and missing grass in a ton of spots. Lots of bare spots in the fairways. For the price of $54 green fees plus $5 for a small bucket of range balls this isn’t worth it. The municipal course across the street is in better condition.
Good golf gone bad
Course has been up and down over the past several years. Yesterday was probably the worst I’ve seen it. Greens look like they lost them during the winter freeze. Fairways are hard and greens would not hold. Practice greens look like they just gave up on them. Putting holes were rounded out from not being changed for a while. I know this place can be good because it has been in the past. Love the layout and it’s a challenge for all from the correct tees. Several fairways on the backside looks like they may be starting to work on them as they looked to be thatched, but they need to clean the dead grass off them. Overall our group said we would wait a couple months before we tried it again.
costly
all courses are overpriced!! this one is not one the most, but still too much for a senior during the week!
Nice lay out . Wide fairways, yet very challenging. Good character.
I was a bit disappointed that the condition of the GC is lagging so far behind many others in the DFW area at this point in Spring. Bald fairways and Greens. Significant Poana present on most greens.
Good shape but slow play.
The greens and fairways are starting to green up and look good for this time in the spring. The play was slow but other than that it was a good round of golf.
Not worth the money
I played here yesterday for the first time. The practice range and pro shop are very nice facilities, but the golf course is in terrible condition. No grass on the tee boxes, fairways, or greens. The ball doesn’t roll true on any square inch of all 18 greens.
Not worth the 70$. I’ve played all over DFW, this has been my worst experience thus far.
Great course
Fun course. Great layout. Friendly staff. Definitely play again
Needs work.
A lot of money put into the track man hitting facility but none on the course for a long time now. Sandy tee boxes and dry fairways with bare spots for a few years now.
Southern Oaks
Good course. Has challenging holes. Nicely laid out. Very good value for cost. Putting greens need weeded and lots of bare areas in fairways. But looks better after grass really grows.
fiar price for a hot deal
To put it briefly. Staff was great, no cart girl which wasn't ideal but we're just now getting into the busy season so it was a 50/50 shot to begin with. Tee boxes were acceptable, fairways were nice for coming out of winter, greens were responsive and fast but a bit bumpy. I think by mid April this course will be primed and ready to go. 8/10 overall will def be back.
Winter issues
Would be a good course however it’s winter conditions!
Bare tee boxes, thin fairways, hard greens!
Needs water, sunshine and maintenance too get back.
$50-$60 OK this time of year!
Not right now.
No grass, sandbox tees, mud and sand fairways. Needs some time for grass to grow. Pace was over 5 hours. Just not worth the drive, price or effort right now. So many courses in better shape.
Not worth playing right now
Read the reviews and decided to make the hour drive to play SOuthern Oaks. Bad decision. There is almost no grass anywhere on this course. The greens have some, mostly Poa, but the tee boxes and fairways have very little at all. Several tee boxes are 100% sand (ever try to hit driver while standing in sand?). The 20+mph winds didn't help the game, dropping temps and dirty air only added to the misery. We stopped playing after 15 holes and 4:10 with three groups on one tee box. Never so happy to see the car when we drove in.
They look like they are TRYING to grow some grass, but right now it is mostly a sand and mud pit. Give it a while, definitely not worth the trip, price or effort right now.
Needs some work
I felt like the course wasn’t in very good condition.i was totally shocked at the women’s tee boxes, most were all sand, I’d over-seed with winter rye. I know it’s early spring, but fairways were bare dirt in many spots. No bathrooms on course, no problem for guys, lots of trees, but none for the ladies. And they built a nice covered Bay Area, but none for restrooms, you have to drive all the was around the event center, to go back to the pro shop. Bought a beer and it was tepid at best. Also , tons of broken tees all over the tee box, more than I have seen at any course, just looked trashy. I was very disappointed, hate to leave a bad review, but not an enjoyable experience…
