Coyote Ridge Golf Club, opened in 1999, features some unusual holes that traverse a variety of unique terrain. Each nine is strikingly different -- the front plays through a burgeoning residential community, is generally wide open and void of trees, and takes on the characteristics of a links-style course.

Water comes into play six times on the front, including the extremely difficult ninth hole, which doglegs left around a lake that stretches all the way around the green. Survive the tee shot by bailing right if you have to, but consider laying up on the approach since the water bends all the way around and surrounds the green on three sides. You’ll still have the chance for an up-and-down par, and playing for bogey is much better that rolling into the turn after a double-digit disaster.

Also on the front, No. 7 is a fun par 3 because of the 70-foot drop in elevation. The tee shot goes 165 yards over water into a very wide, challenging green.

Coyote Ridge Golf Club's back nine rolls through an abandoned rock quarry along the Trinity River, featuring more trees and elevation changes.

Coyote Ridge Fun

It was great to get out to Coyote for a round with a close friend! The course was in excellent shape, played quick (3 1/2 hours) and the icing was the pretty weather. For a Monday the rate was $100/pp ( a little high). We considered Indian Creek but know after rains it is a soggy beast.

Bad greens make a bad round

Greens were rock hard and extra fast. Very hard to score when you hit GIR but cannot make simple putts.

Poor communication

I arrived at about 8 for a 9:10 tee time, we were advised there would be a frost delay so I asked if this would push our tee time, the clerk said 9:30. At 9, he comes out and says we have 10 minutes so I ask for some practice balls since we couldn’t warm up before 9 because of the frost delay, which I don’t really understand how the range on practice mats would be impacted by that. He refused to let me get some practice balls because we only had 10 minutes which I then remind him that he told me 9:30 earlier and he proceeds to tell me that the revised tee time was contingent on whomever checked in, which he did not, and again what does that have to do with my tee time. It’s not my fault someone didn’t show, how are you forcing me to tee earlier and not allow me to warm up.

Glass Top Greens

Holy cow! The greens were in good shape but man it was like putting on a glass table top.

The GOS wasn’t synced with the pins. It was very evident around the greens. The gps would show the pin in the back when it was actually in front. For example, it said we were 97 from the pin but when I used my range finder it was 53. Just double check your distance. Great course though.

Challenging Course

Course was challenging and in good condition. Pace is play was very slow especially on the back nine. We waited 20 minutes to tee off on the turn.

Great greens

Played Coyote Ridge for the first time and enjoyed it immensely. Staff was friendl, but delivered bad news that back nine was closed due to heavy rain the previous few days. Access to hole 10 was flooded so we played the front nine twice. Pace of play was incredibly fast (about 3 hours), but not as fast as the greens, especially for a wet course. When finished we asked if we could see the back nine. Pro said if we drive back from from 18 to 17, 16, 15, etc. it would be fine. In fact by driving back to 12, we should be able to play forward from there,,,so we enjoyed a few extra holes! Great morning!!

Many holes' cart path under repair

Course itself was great. The staff in the proshop was very kind and courteous. Green was good even in the rain. But, even after the warning at booking, the wobbly bridges and cart path construction were worse than I expected. Especially, on the cart- path only wet day I played; cart path construction was kind of bummer. Deeply discounted fee would be necessary. I will play again on dryer day and hope the cat path repair is done by then.

Great hospitality!

I was looking for one last round of golf before flying back home that day and I found Coyote Ridge on Golfnow. From the moment I checked in until I changed and grabbed a ride to the airport, the staff couldn't be more hospitable. They stored my luggage while I played the course.

I enjoyed the layout of this course which provided rewards and challenges. While I don't mind cart-path only holes, there were some areas of wetness that are being addressed. Greens were rolling decently. My only suggestion would be to place cart signs on where to take the cart off the course. The gps on the cart would lock me out and force me to reverse way back

Lastly, because I was flying out, I needed to change. I REALLY appreciate the staff allowing me to use the ladies locker room to shower and change. Definitely check out this course!

Prices don’t match up

Course is an better than average course and it seems that because they offer memberships that they want to charge for a private style course. They are redoing the cart paths but lock your cart often if drive where they don’t want you to. We had a cart beverage girl only once because she wanted to home. The course attendants would turn the sprinklers on during the round, they were dumping sand in the bunker around the green while the wind blew it in my face. The mowers followed us after they let us play through. Let them go private and spend you money elsewhere!

Ok

The course is OK, but pretty pricey considering how much construction the course is undergoing. There was no cart service at all, and the club seemed to under renovations as well. Staff was nice and friendly and the golf cart was nice and clean. I liked that it had GPs on board too! Some holes were difficult to play (quite confusing). We also had an actual coyote come close to us on several occasions… no kidding!!

The New Coyote

Just started playing again post Covid. Course changes are nice and they still need to work on bunker conditions. The real issue is slow play. They don’t patrol the course with any marshals/rangers. So once on course it’s like the Wild West - if you get a slow group they won’t do anything about it. A little frustrating for the money they want for a round. Not asking for Indy 500 pace but a 5+ hr round is not reasonable for this course. Folks from both my group and the group in front of mine left mid round due to VERY slow pace of play. Will likely try it again and see if it’s an anomaly….but they need to show improvement.

Dogtrack

The owners of this course should be ashamed charging $100 to play this dogtrack with punched greens, poor playing conditions. This course was not in even decent shape and is worse than most muni courses you will play.

Up up up

The only thing that has changed in the last eight or nine months at Coyote Ridge is the prices keep going up up. It's a nice course but it's definitely reached the Pinnacle of it may be getting more than it's worth. The only good thing about the price is it's keeping mediocre recreational golfers away which has definitely made the pace of play much more bearable. They still have bunkers that they started to rebuild a year ago that are not done I don't think they should be charging the prices they're charging until they at least get the course completed

Desperately need a course marshall

No reason a Friday 1 pm tee time should take 5 hours. 2 groups ahead of us was behind by 3 holes to the next closest group. No course Marshall to be found. Very frustrating. I only play week days and rarely do they play longer than 4 hours even on fridays

Terrible Course

It is amazing how comfortable some courses are charging the prices that they do. Let's start with paying $100 and the guy in the pro shop lets me know Holes 10/11 will be closed, I can play 1/2 again at the end to make a full 18. No big deal. What was not communicated was half the bunkers on the course are just solid rock, no sand. Hole 5 was also under construction, with people filling rock bunkers with sand (mid-day). This also led to many tractors and oversized work vehicles constantly zipping around the course. Not to mention all of the trash throughout the course. If you are going to charge $100 for a round of golf, service your course in the morning or evenings - not during the day when you have people trying to play. Clean up the trash everywhere. Fill your bunkers with sand (an ongoing issue since last year). Do better. Be the great course you are trying to aspire to be. Or don't. But do not charge $100 for a round if you are not. An absolute rip-off - do not waste your money or time on this place.
