Coyote Ridge Golf Club
About
Coyote Ridge Golf Club, opened in 1999, features some unusual holes that traverse a variety of unique terrain. Each nine is strikingly different -- the front plays through a burgeoning residential community, is generally wide open and void of trees, and takes on the characteristics of a links-style course.
Water comes into play six times on the front, including the extremely difficult ninth hole, which doglegs left around a lake that stretches all the way around the green. Survive the tee shot by bailing right if you have to, but consider laying up on the approach since the water bends all the way around and surrounds the green on three sides. You’ll still have the chance for an up-and-down par, and playing for bogey is much better that rolling into the turn after a double-digit disaster.
Also on the front, No. 7 is a fun par 3 because of the 70-foot drop in elevation. The tee shot goes 165 yards over water into a very wide, challenging green.
Coyote Ridge Golf Club's back nine rolls through an abandoned rock quarry along the Trinity River, featuring more trees and elevation changes.

Great Course conditions
Great course, pace of play was very slow. Had a group 5 two holes in front of us and a group of 3 ahead of us. Would like to see a yardage around 6600 yards. Goes from 6300 to 7000+ from tips.
Blind Tee Shots and Blind Appproaches
The course itself is quite good. The back side however is littered with blind tee shots and shaded tee shots that you feel like you're hitting out of a chute. Couple odd holes as well. A Double lay up Par 5 on 10 was not my favorite. Also #3, the 260 yard par 3 over water was an unnecessary and unwelcomed. Par 3 don't need to ever be that long. Most likely needed to get the course over 7k. The fairways run quite a bit so the course other wise doesn't play nearly as long. Front side is nestled in a dense housing development while the back side was much more out in the country feel. Plenty of undulation and elevation changes as well. Solid course overall besides the two quirky holes.
Love Hate
We love his course but during prime time ( Friday-Sunday) when the weather is nice, it's a 5 hour round. I don't agree with the philosophy of loading the course the way they do but I'm sure they are just trying to make a living. I will not be back during peak times but do love this course. 5 hours is too long especially in 96 degree weather.
Monday Golf at Coyote Ridge
I had a great time playing at Coyote Ridge. The greens were good bout you can tell they are still recovering from the winter. The course was very busy in the morning. I will be back later in the summer.
Challenging course, best after a few rounds of experience
Coyote Ridge is an upscale semi-private golf course located in Carrolton, TX. Conveniently located just off 121 east of the I-35 interchange, this course is easily accessible from anywhere in north DFW.
Memberships are sold for Coyote Ridge (hence the semi-private designation). Approximately $350/month gets you all the golf you can play. Tee times can also be found online through your favorite booking app from $25-45. Not bad prices for a course that has this many amenities. The clubhouse is very upscale featuring dark browns and blues, wood accenting, full restaurant and bar (open to the public), as well as a ballroom/banquet area. Full locker rooms are located for all as well. The pro shop contains the standard golf equipment as well as a remarkable selection of hats.
I played on a Thursday morning with a tee time of just before 11:00 AM. Range balls were included with the tee time purchase. Hitting off mats was required at the smallish range. There is also a small chipping area and a mammoth putting green with plenty of undulation.
Coyote Ridge is very challenging for the average golfer. With a slope rating of 131 from the blue tees and 145 from the tips, this course will test your game.
It’s easy to get lulled into a false sense of security for the first 2 holes. #1 is a short par 4 to a mild green. #2 is a par 5 with plenty of room off the tee. The green is elevated which provides a little challenge and a hint of many shots to come where golfers will not be able to see the ball land.
The difficulty shifts into high gear on #3. This par 3 has a narrow and deep green that can significantly change the length of the hole (it was playing 232 into the wind from the blues when I played). The tee shot requires length and accuracy making finding the green a significant challenge. From there, a 2-putt is no guarantee.
Depending on the wind, the rest of the holes on the front can vary from mild to incredibly challenging. Have fun on #7. The signature hole is a par 3 from an extremely elevated tee box. Over water. Usually into a howling wind. Not exactly a shot that you practice every day. On the other hand, the ball stays in the air an awfully long time…so that’s fun.
The back begins with a poorly designed (in my opinion) par 5. Meant to be a forced 3 shot hole, most players will hit an awkward 200 yard downhill tee shot, followed by a long iron/fairway metal over trouble (but…not TOO far), closing with short shot into a shallow, severely undulating green that is made more difficult by the extreme elevation of the putting surface. This isn’t a bad hole, it just doesn’t have the aesthetically pleasing effect that many other holes here at Coyote Ridge have. Also, as is a theme with this course, the fun factor probably increases on this hole the more you play it.
Both par threes on the back involve elevation change. #15 is another par 5 that requires accuracy. I was able to birdie the hole, but, had to stuff a wedge to 4 feet (another approach shot I didn’t see land due to a tucked pin/green design).
#17 is a fun set up. Short par 4 that plays downhill. Certainly drivable and a nice risk reward (I played 5 iron - SW - 2 putts for par). #18 is short uphill par 4 that you have to play once before really understanding the hole. Play towards the 150 stick and you’ll see what I mean.
Pace of play was a little slow to start out. Perhaps caused by the 90 degree rule for the day and #1 being cart path only. GPS is on all the carts which is a huge help for the many blind shots out there. Course was very well maintained and greens in good shape, albeit slow compared to other courses in the area.
Overall, Coyote Ridge is a well maintained golf course with plenty of upscale amenities for golfers who like that sort of thing. Still comfortable for the “shoes-in-the-parking-lot” type of players like myself. It’s the type of course that is more enjoyable and easier to score on after 3-4 rounds to learn where to miss it. Enjoy!
What a great round
The course played great. The beverage cart came around 4 times while we were out there. The pace of play was amazing, we never caught group ahead of us, and we stayed ahead of the group behind. This is still one of my favorite courses here in Dallas.
This course is fun for beginners to pros
This course had fast greens today and fairways are wide open. I recommend this course (Coyote Ridge) to anyone wanting to have a good day on a nice course.
An outstanding layout
From the time I pulled into the parking lot I could not stop raving about how gorgeous this course was.. Each hole has its challenges, but it’s when you hit the greens is when the true test begins.. They are fast and mean.. If you miss the greens don’t worry there are plenty of bunkers to catch your shot. This will not be the last time I play this wonderful layout and I will be bringing plenty re enforcements with me next time... Thx to all the staff for a wonderful experience. They say the first impression is a lasting one and this course will always be a favorite...!!!
So slow!
9:10 tee time didn't start until 9:15. Total time was 4 hours and 50 minutes without stopping at the turn. One the 10 hole a mysterious foursome appeared in front of us on the teebox. When we saw the Marshall on the 11th hole we asked why/how the group in front of us appeared for the first time on the 10th tee box he said, "you snooze, you lose." I explained we hadn't stopped at the turn and he said, "we are dealing with a slow group up ahead."
I probably play here twice a month and I always enjoy myself. Bar staff and cart girls are the best. Course condition is great too. But I am going to seriously reconsider playing here as often due to the lack of a starter on the 1st (and 10th) tee boxes. I love golf but I love my Saturdays too and unnecessary slow play is the worst. Considering the recently increased green fees, the attention towards timeliness is mandatory.
Great Day
Course was almost perfect. The rain the day before kept the greens soft. Little more expensive than most munys but worth the extra few $$. Great restaurant! Be back soon.
Way better than expected
I must say I was a little worried when I drove past a landfill to get to the house. With that said, I was pleasantly surprised by this course. Staff was friendly. The clubhouse was spectacular. Once we started playing, I found more and more reasons to love this course. The course was in superb condition from tee to green. We played at a quick pace and were never slowed down by anyone. I will definitely play here again.
