Alsatian Golf Club
About
Alsatian GC is an 18-hole with water in play. Front side fairly open and flat, almost links type play. Hole 2 surrounded by waterways and bunkers. Back side is hilly and has lots of trees. Super finishing hole with a tree in center of uphill fairway.
Throughout the course you will find challenging and beautiful fairways lined with trees and Spanish Dagger. The course also offers distance wedge game range, practice bunkers, three-level putting green, and a pre-round putting green.
Lodging: The Alsatian Inn is located approximately two miles from the club. A very nice facility, it has ninety rooms, a swimming pool, and a really good restaurant. Children under the age of fourteen stay free.
Distance: About 30 minutes from downtown on Highway
90 West to Castroville. But worth the trip.... Take Highway 90 West through Castroville; turn right at the blinking light just past the Alsatian Inn; veer left on CR 4516. Course is 2.5 miles down on the right.

A few concerns
Here is something that has happened to me on more than a few occasions at Alsatian. Our group plays the front 9 with only a few golfers in sight. Pace of play is great. Then, when we get to the back 9 (specifically starting on hole #11) the pace of plays slows down considerably. All of a sudden every hole has players and some of the groups have 5 players. I'm not sure what this is about. Obviously, groups are being allowed to tee off of #11 and some of them with more than 4 players. It can be frustrating.
Great value
Love going there because it’s short but challenging, some tee boxes were a little torn up but other than that course was in great condition
Don’t be fooled by these reviews
This is a good value course, but this is definitely not a 4+ star golf course.
Hello Trey, thank you for reviewing us. We see you rated the course 3-stars and are interested in learning what we can do to improve before your next round? Feel free to comment on this review or reach out to the team in the golf shop. We always appreciate the feedback. Thank you for playing Alsatian Golf Club, and we hope to see you again soon.
Best course in the area, if it were closer, I would play it every day.
I simply could not think of a thing I would change. Played every rated course in the US and abroad, just as good as any,
Hello, we appreciate the review. You rated us 3-stars which means there is room to improve on your recent experience at Alsatian Golf Club. Let us know, in the comments, how and where you would like to see changes from the course. Thanks for the feedback!
Had to pay $10.83 extra to ride by myself
I was told I would be riding with someone, told them that I would like to ride by myself due to respiratory problems. Was told I would have to pay $10.83 extra, which I paid. when making reservations we were not told we would have to ride two to a cart. I don't believe this is currently not safe.
We decided to have lunch, the restaurant was packed. no social distancing, made us sit 3 to a small table. Waitresses were not wearing a mask. Don't know if it required in restaurants in Medina county. Not a comfortable situation.
I would not recommend this golf course to a friend due to no social distancing. Nor will I play Alsatian golf course again.
Thank you for your comments. We would like to address a few things though. We are located in Medina county and our restrictions are not the same as San Antonio/Bexar county. We were allowed to have 2 riders a cart starting on 6/1/2020. And San Antonio course followed on 6/4/2020. We will gladly give you a single cart; however, we are charging an additional $10.00. When 1 rider per cart was mandated, this of course put a huge strain on all golf courses. Managing players, tee times etc is difficult when there is only one rider per cart. We are sorry this was an inconvenience for you. As for Julianna's, we can assure you social distancing is in place. The amount of tables/chairs in the restaurant is for 75% occupancy. Medina county is allowed 75% occupancy and parties of 10, effective 6/1/2020. Tables and chairs are placed 6 feet apart. When the dining room was arranged for 75% occupancy, we measured the distances. The Alsatian Golf Club and Julianna's Restaurant, has followed every order given by our county officials and/or Governor Abbott. We continue to sanitize carts and all surfaces throughout the day. The restrooms are sanitized as well. The restaurant staff sanitizes all tables, menus, and other surfaces throughout the day. Medina county does not have a mandate to wear masks either. As the restrictions change in Medina county, we can assure you our businesses will adjust to any orders. For now, we are following what our county officials dictate to us. Thank you for your business.
A hidden jewel
Played years ago, could not recognize that it was the same course, tremendous upgrade.
Thank you for the kind remarks. Our maintenance crew works very hard to keep it looking nice!
Nice course to play
Nice course to play and loved the bentgrass greens. This helps the ball to really stick if you hit a nice high short iron into the greens, not saying I did on all of them, but I did on a few. Lol.
For the price of golf out there, range balls should have been included in the Golfnow deal, not a deal breaker, but would have been nice. No cart person driving around with snacks and drinks especially on a hot Texas day, so they missed out on making some good revenue from all the golfers out there.
Overall, this is a nice course to play and will return again.
Great course. Enjoy it.
#2 difficult island green but fun. The course layout gives you different looks so that you can work the ball both left to right and right to left.
Confidence
With the exception of a few holes. this course is perfectly easy. Definitely a confidence builder for me, nice wide-open fairways, minimal hazards, and all-around easy difficulty. If you're looking for an immense golfing challenge, this isn't the place. if you're a normal, average golfer like me, it's a great course to add skill, boost confidence and be aggressive enough to break some PR's
Based on reviews, gave the ratings...
Made tee time a weeks ago but had to cancel because of change in plans. Call course and told them I will not be able to play...and ask that my round be gifted to a patron. Hope a golfer enjoyed. I look forward to playing in the future based on the positive reviews.
Alsatian golf course
Not in good shape at all, the greens on the front nine were horrible, the back nine got a little better but overall not well kept.
Hi, thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. Your feedback about the course is important to us. We are working to get everything up to par. We have projects ongoing to recover the fairways and greens. The current condition is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We are going to escalate your feedback to our team so we can make improvements before your next game, and we will continue to work towards an excellent experience by using your comment for guidance. Thank you for playing Alsatian Golf Club. We hope to see you again soon.
Excellent staff and restaurant
Enjoyed this round, pace good. The burgers in the restaurant are excellent.
Rural courses
We don't play courses in San Anton so cannot compare them. Mostly play west of city, Bandera, Uvalde.
This course is best condition around here.
Greens are mostly good. Fairways have good grass, not a lot of thick rough. Our fav course...
Here is the reply I received: Billy thank you for your comment. If you play on Monday and Thursday's after 1pm you will run into groups on the back because of our Cash Game. This is always explained at check in. We do not start people on the back, under any circumstances. A group of five is only allowed after 12pm every day , not earlier. I hope this explains it.
thanks for replying. Just an FYI, we played on a Wednesday when this happened. Also, I've never had anyone at the desk explain this to me at check in.
