Course in terrible shape
Haven't been out there in a while and was surprised at the shape it was in. Weeds and grass growing in the bunkers. Greens have clumps of another kind of grass growing in them. Like putting through clumps of broccoli. Some greens have large dead and bare spots. Got a discounted rate and still not worth it. High point was seeing a coyote on #2 fairway and a bobcat and 2 baby bobcats.on #5 fairway. Not going back anytime soon.
Good course and food
Even after a heavy flood season the course was in descent shape. Met some nice friendly people on the course. Cart girl was around three times during the round. Which was nice on that 95 degree day. Food at the nineteenth hole is great. New cook is energetic about what she is cooking and it shows in the quality. I wish I lived closer so I could enjoy this golf club more.
Really bad shape
I played the course on July 4th with some friends and realize you get what you ay for. I had not played the course in a couple of years but thought I would give it another chance on a last minute request of a friend to play on Saturday July 4th. Price was great so we tried to give them anotehr chance. Worst conditioned course I have ever played on. Greens were terrible. Fairway and tee boxes were not mowed. Anything 5 feet out of the fairway was in 8" of grass and mud. Bunkers were unplayable and had little to no sand in them. Just really bad conditions. Surprising since the neighborhood is seeing some signs of expansion and build up but the course needs a lot of work.
Newport
The course is clean and maintained. The course does not drain water too well after a rain. It is a great place to go that is close to home.
Okay course.
Needs up grades. Greens have holes and pitted dirt spots. The grill was closed. Only chips and candy available.
Challenging layout but in very poor condition.
Great track with a ton of potential but course conditions are borderline acceptable. There is some standing water on most holes though rain has been light over the past week. ALL bunkers are unplayable as sand bunkers, i.e. wet and compact, weeds prevalent up to over a foot tall in some, zero bunker maintenance. The fairways are mowed but not the rough areas nor many of the tea boxes. Could be a great golf course but it is currently in a state of deterioration. Such a shame but, it is obviously a high maintenance design.
Cart Path Only On this Day
Fairways were a little wet and muddy, greens were very good for winter. Cold and windy but had a great time.
Good golf value.
Fun and inexpensive course for the locals
Definitely needs some help with grounds keeping - huge bad spots on most greens, rough cart paths, and not one of the bunkers/traps resemble sand. Concrete would be a better representation. That said, I still play it because its more challenging than the other local courses - even with its current faults. GolfNow keeps the green fees reasonable. Worth your time if you're in the area.
course was in poor conditio n
Course needs a tremenfous amount of work. Green have no grass and the fairwayd were pathetic. Th restaurant had its liiquor license suspended.
unacceptable
Golf even for the common man holds a certain standard. This course needs to be shut down right now. First of all, there were very unacceptable drawings in the men's restroom of both male and female body parts. This is not something you would want to explain to your child. You would think that the course would care about their image sense they are the center piece of the neighborhood. I refused to even participate on this course after my clubhouse experience. For any golfer who still sees golf as a tradition carrying yourself to a certain standard, I would ask that you refuse to play this course. For the residents of newport I would ask that you check this out for yourself and make the appropriate changes in your community.
Course needs to rest.
I love the layout at Newport Country Club and I enjoy playing this course. Unfortunately, the course is apparently in severe financial troubles. The bunkers were in miserable condition. They had not been raked by the staff in probably weeks nor by players all day. The bunkers have had so little maintenance that there were weeds growing in them. Not just quick growing weeds but the type of weeds that require some time to grow and spread. I was in a total of 6 bunkers today and not one bunker had been raked by folks that had played out of them the same day I did. The course was still in decent shape. The greens were fairly smooth and still quick for the amount of water they have had recently.
The course was so waterlogged and soggy that, in my opinion, it should have been closed and allowed to drain; if it drains at all. There was standing water in lots of places and very soggy spots everywhere. I appreciated that I could play but I think it is more important that they "save" the course than generate the green fees they did today. If the course drains poorly, they need to do something to dry the course up before they allow players to drive carts everywhere and destroy the course. They did ask us not to drive on the very wet areas but not everyone is concerned about the course. There will always be people that will care little for the state of the course as long as they get to do what they believe they are entitled to do after having paid a green fee.
A same that they felt the need to allow play when the course is so waterlogged and susceptible to damage.
Damp Conditions
The pace of play was great. The course conditions were very wet. Not sure if they got a lot of rain overnight but there was water in bunkers and in the fairways.
Nice Greens but
This is a fun course to play usually with nice green speed and condition. Unfortunately it appears due to lack of play other areas of the course maintenance has suffered. Bunkers has decent sand just need to be raked. but for $10 plus tax and booking fee it was fun and challenging.
think twice before you play here!
I feel like I was tricked! When I booked my tee time on golfNow was pretty excited to play this course because the pictures on their website we're of this beautifully manicured golf course! As I started driving through the neighborhood leading up to the golf course I was thinking to myself man this is going to be a really nice golf course look at these really nice houses! NOPE, I was WRONG! the parking lot looks like it had been abandoned, there were weeds growing out of cracks in the road, dead grass everywhere and the driving range was terrible! Get this when I bought a bucket of balls they handed me a plastic take out bag you would get from a restaurant full of dirty old golf balls! I could really go on and on but just trust me when I say get a tee time somewhere else don't even bother! Not worth the drive!!
price was great
enjoyed the course very much, great price and nice course for the money, not crowded at all
This course would be real nice with some work.
First time playing this course. The bunkers really need some work. The greens need work but was not real bad. This was a nice and challenging course that really makes you think about club selection. I enjoyed the course and would definitely recommend it to others and I would play it again.
great condition for the price
the fairways in great shape the greens are OK and the bunkers are terrible.. grass and rocks. Don't attempt
Second Cut
The greens are looking better. Wished the sand traps were raked and prepared. The second cut just outside the fairways are a haven for losing your ball after a good shot. That would be my only major complaint. Oh recommend wearing some mosquito repellant because a few holes have them bad.
Course was in Terrible Shape
We played the Tuesday after Labor Day. The course was in terrible shape. The greens had not been touched (we played at 9 AM). Dew was heavy, worm droppings all over, and the greens had not been mowed in a few days - not only were they slow but the ball bounced all over the place and the holes hadn't been moved in days. The area had gotten rain on Sunday. The traps hadn't been raked in quite a while weeds were growing in them. They were mowing the rough and fairways when the greens needed it the most. Thankfully a storm blew in with lightning and we quickly quit after 4 holes, which we were going to do after nine because of the conditions. Even at a low price this was not worth it. I don't plan on playing it again.
Aye! Play this course
Was pretty fun and you can't beat it for the price.
