First Round at Stonebridge
This course would be fine for a beginner or high handicapper, but the course conditions will definitely frustrate an average to above average player. The greens are extremely slow and have been infested by Virginia Buttonweed and other weeds. Traps and boxes were in fair condition. Layout is good. I’m 58 and played from the tips, which left me a variety of approach shot lengths into the greens throughout the round. Staff was very friendly and the clubhouse and snack bar were clean. Pace of play was excellent f for a holiday. The marshals were visible and active throughout the round.
Hot dog days of summer
Very hot day, fairways were fair, some of the greens were in need of work overall fair several crab grass invaders on the greens. Pace was excellent. Overall a nice round.
A decent public course with some character
Overall a well kept, decently designed, public course. Hole 18 is the signature, a number of holes are dogleg left or right, and has trees to hold your driving accuracy.
Decent course for the Money
Lots of dog legs, and tons of trees, with very little water. Hole 18 is definitely their signature with a stone bridge leading to the hole.
Free. Condition
They roll smooth and true but just on the slow side. N
Well-maintained and a good test of skills, but bring plenty of balls!
My son and I played Stonebridge at Newport for the first time yesterday. Very good value for the money, although if you live anywhere but far northeast Houston, make sure you allow plenty of time to get there (it’s in Crosby).
Overall, the course is a challenging one, and was in fairly good shape for a public course. Some greens had brown/bare spots around the edges, but these were small and shouldn’t come into play. My only real complaint is that for the most part, the rough is St. Augustine grass…it was fairly high and very thick…and this made it very difficult to find a ball that may be just a few inches off the fairway. Of course, the way to minimize this is to hit it in the fairway 😊
Tired of bad reviews
Hey all you guys who act like you work for a golf course magazine if you don’t break 80 regularly please stop with your horrible reviews about the fairways bumpy greens don’t hold etc….. if you only hit 1-3 fairways out of 14 and 1-2 greens out of 18 then how do you know how the greens are holding?how do you know the fairways are bare and bad if you never hit them? I have been to course after course that I read on here “ this course sucks,” or “ the greens are bare and you can’t putt”i go to and have great putting days……with all the complaints I’m surprised you guys even play golf……. With that being said Stonebridge is becoming my home course…. greens have grown in nicely a good layout and a course I enjoy playing……. A lot of courses charge way to much money to play…..Im not going play a course like Golf club of Houston and paying $130 and can’t drive on the fairway(I know it was cause of the 9/11 tour)…..people just play the game enjoy your time out there and if it’s not what you thought or liked then don’t go back or if you wanna leave a review how about it wasn’t what I expected or I didn’t like it……just tired of the “I’m telling everybody don’t play here” or go play somewhere else”cause you guys have been so wrong on your reviews….im to the point that when I read”this place sucks” I’m heading straight there to play it…….when did we become this society of complaining about everything?……Oh yea when Mark Zuckerberg introduced Facebook to the world and people could hid behind their phone screens……
Poor Maintenance
The fee paid for a round of golf at this course was not worth it at all. The course was barely playable and it was in bad condition. I don’t think I’d be playing here again.
Fun round
Course has a fun layout holes were overdue to be replaced
