Providence Golf Club

About
Providence Golf Club in Richmond has a rich and unique history. The original location along the Pocoshock Creek closed in 1985 but the property and an adjacent parcel of land were then bought by a new development company. The additional land was used for six new holes while the original property now has longer and more spacious holes. The golf course then had another redesign in 2002 that was overseen by Virginia native Lester George, who is known for designing the highest ranked golf course in the state, Kinloch Golf Club. Providence G.C. wanders through a beautiful landscape of towering trees and wetlands. George utilized these natural features to create a number of risk-reward opportunities throughout the course. The golf course finishes with a risk-reward hole that is heavily guarded by both bunkers and a creek.

Do everything you can to avoid the greenside bunker on the par-4 7th. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 03/11/2020
Great Course
Greens a little slow. But other than that great course. Shorter than I’m used to but not easy. Will play again
Forgiving course
This is my local course. Gorgeous weather and super friendly staff. Hot dog at the turn is a beauty!! Front 9 and back 9 are two different courses really, with the back 9 offering more challenging shots with a few blind shots and challenging approach shots.
On a side note, I paid for 4 players, but only two played due to a family emergency. How can I get a refund/credit for the 2 that didn’t play?
Immaculate fairways
One of the best maintained courses I’ve ever played. Great value for your money. I highly recommend this course for anyone looking to play in the Richmond area. First time playing while visiting family and I will definitely be back.
Course in great shape
Course was in shape even with all the rain we had during the day. Only issue was the cart only went when it wanted to! Another group was having issues with their cart also.
Gotta improve the pace of play. A single shouldn’t be behind 2 groups of 4 on a Thursday. Have folks tee off the back if need be, or just have an actual starter
Great conditions
The course was in great shape. Fairways were gorgeous. Only drawback is that too few players fix their ball marks on the greens. Bunkers were packed dirt instead of sand.
Pro shop, club house is very basic.
Decent public course.
Greens are in good shape, fairways are good, they just let the rough grow up to where it makes it more challenging. Not country club conditions or shape - but good place to play close to home.
Why do you care if I’m wearing a plain navy shirt
I have always golfed in a classic vuori plain t shirt I have several different colors there nice fitting and aren’t cheap nore look cheap. I walk in with golf khakis and a plain navy shirt and am not allowed to play the Tee time I booked and can’t because some old person who already made me wait 12 minutes in like because he can’t figure out how to use a computer doesn’t want me to play his 30 DOLLAR FOR 9 HOLES course??
Very pleasantly surprised!
I hadn’t played this course in 5 or more years, and I couldn’t be more pleasantly surprised with everything, from the lady in the pro shop to the grounds crew, to the snack bar and the girls handling the refreshment cart. Really a class act, and the course conditions are incredible; this course definitely plays like a top-tier course. I can’t believe it took me so long to get back out here, but Providence will definitely be my go-to for the foreseeable future!
Great condition, except for the bunkers.
Fairways and greens were in great shape despite the numerous unrepaired marks. The bunkers, on the other hand were hard packed mud/sand.
Great course
This is my favorite public track in the Chesterfield area. I play here all the time. Providence is kept in really good shape by the staff and there are low rounds to be had out there if you’re hitting it well! Great value course, especially during twilight hours.
