Hills at Pecan Valley Municipal Golf Course
About
The old Pecan Valley muni has evolved over the years as the successful culmination of work between the Army Corps of Engineer, the city of Fort Worth, and the Tarrant County Water Control District. When the city sold the old Worth Hills Golf Course to Texas Christian University, they were able to fund a deal to buy the 27-hole Benbrook Municipal below Lake Benbrook.
The Hills Course was rounded out in 1981 by Dave Bennett, who completed the addition to supplement this shorter, more wide-open course. The course is less lengthy now but water comes into play often, including the 375-yard 2nd hole that doglegs left around water.

Seniors and walkers
I understand it was a Tuesday and most of us are at work dreaming of being on the course instead. I had the day off and took my oldest son down on college break to a new course we have not played before. We are not pro golfers and do our best with what we have. We pick up our shots when we have someone waiting on us to keep the pace of the game and not slow down the group behind us. We also have no problem when we know the group behind us is good enough to play through. It was a day from the hot place below. Our tee time was 9:22. Get to the tee box a few minutes early. Already had the 9:30 and another group waiting on us to tee off. Moved ahead and they immediately teed off right behind us. Picked up 1/2 way through first two holes to put some distance between us. Being relaxed me and the boy started playing better and caught a senior man and woman in front of us. Two par 5s back to back. Waited and waited for them to finish their third shot so we can tee off. Decided to pass them on next par 5. Two walkers were on the par 3. Was going to ask them if we could tee off with them on next hole and play through since we had the cart. While trying to do this the senior couple behind us, got very upset and voiced their concerns and then cut us off at the tee box. Not wanting to make a scene, I called the pro shop for a Marshall. His reply is that there were a lot of walkers today and there was nothing he could do... That was it! We picked up on hole 8 and went to pro shop to see if we could go to the river course or refund us half the course. Waited for 15 minutes while they we one the phone. Turned in our cart instead of waiting and just chalked it up to poor course selection. Should have stayed local and played where people know us by our loyalty. I have heard great things about both of their courses but I will NEVER go back.
OK course for the price.
Greens were in good condition fairways weedy. Pace of play was aweful numerous singles that should have been paired continuly encroached and jumped around and made for a long frustrating round.
Great Public course
This is a fun and challenging course. Greens in good condition and most far ways are green. It's open enough to prevent to many lost balls but the big trees will punish the arrant shot. Certainly a course worth playing.
Not good, not bad, little or no drainage.
Played 18 holes, water all over the place from rains.
drainage was non-existent. Bunkers were mudholes, standing water in most of them. I guess to be fair I should play it sometime after it dries out. Should not really have been open, or at least have a reduced fee.
Some excellent holes
This course is the sister course to the more popular River course. The course has several nice water holes and has mature trees on each hole. I was in one green side bunker and the sand was very firm and shallow. One or two of the holes would benefit from the addition of aiming sticks for your tee shots.
A really fun course to play anytime
We were a 2 some 2-19 and we never had to wait at any hole. The course is in good shape even in mid Feb. . The 2nd hole is a Bear . Par here is a great score . Not too difficult of a course. This course is always a favorite go to. A great day of golf would be , play Hills in the a.m., River after lunch . They really keep this course well manicured . The pro shop guys are super nice and cordial .
Pecan valley river
Very nice . Great greens nice fairways . Great club house and staff. If you like to get away from noise of the city and great views you need to play here.
Spent time with son
Winds were gusting to 20+ mph. Overall course was in good shape, even though the drought has hit most of the courses in this area. My adult son and I enjoyed playing even though the wind increased the difficulty of an already hard game. I had an 81 and son had 89.
Nice day in Winter/ lots of players
5 hour round caused by a beautiful day in Winter. Food was ok, but too pricey for just ok. Course was the thing that brought the rating up to a 3 after having to chase the guy picking up balls to get my bucket before the round.
Great course
The only problem I had with this course is there were no ball washers! That's it everything else top notch. I found 1 washer and it was broken.
Good course
Greens were in great shape but a little slow. Leaves were a problem on some holes. Pace of play was a little slow. Great, friendly staff.
a nice golf course
I really enjoyed the course but playing on Black Friday made for a long round
The River
Its a good course. It has its challeges but not to diffficulty that you lose a dozen balls. The greens are alway in great shape.
Great course
I love to play here. The staff is really nice and friendly. The course is in great condition and the pace was perfect.
Blow leaves - poor course management
Course is great to play, you need to blow leaves, could not find balls in fairways because of leaves. Poor golf course management and will be worse this week and the following weeks has leaves fall.
Peaceful and beautiful
One of the best courses I've played in. Long drives and greens are perfect
Nice bang for your buck!
Nice course overall. The golf carts seemed hard to steer and well worn.Enjoyed the round, course was well maintained.Look forward playing again soon.
Pecan Valley - River
The course was in great shape. It was a great deal for $13! I would definitely go back.
This course is in great shape for a municiple course.
I have played this course 25-30 years ago. After reserving a tee time on the web at a discount, I was surprised to see the great condition of the course. Enjoyed to round very much.
Challange for a bargain price
I had not played the Rivers course for at least 10 years and remembered it as very difficult in wet and cold conditions. This day, however, was beautiful and the course was faster and firmer. The fairways and greens were excellent and sand traps were very good. Bermuda rough around the greens was brutal and helped to inflate my score. A great challenge to play (at par 70-down from 72 last time I played) and our Golf Now price was $26-what a deal!
