Hills at Pecan Valley Municipal Golf Course
About
The old Pecan Valley muni has evolved over the years as the successful culmination of work between the Army Corps of Engineer, the city of Fort Worth, and the Tarrant County Water Control District. When the city sold the old Worth Hills Golf Course to Texas Christian University, they were able to fund a deal to buy the 27-hole Benbrook Municipal below Lake Benbrook.
The Hills Course was rounded out in 1981 by Dave Bennett, who completed the addition to supplement this shorter, more wide-open course. The course is less lengthy now but water comes into play often, including the 375-yard 2nd hole that doglegs left around water.

The remodel reduced the playability of the Ralph Plummer minimalist design
The remodel in 2001 (?) installed interesting contoured greens and but ludicrous fairways, Overall, it's a mess. The philosophy for the fairways seems to be simple: install sand traps in all the landing areas. #7 has a cross bunker now that the trees on the left are overgrown and pinch the fairway. Other new cross bunkers slow the play of 1, 2, 11, and 18. The remodel reduced the playability of the Ralph Plummer minimalist design. It’s just a shame, especially when you see what Dallas did when rethinking their munis. The city had a no-nonsense course with some pedigree (Plummer worked for Brademus and Maxwell) and turned into just a muni.
Good Course
Fairways were hard and dry, aside from that fun course to play
Great Muni Golf
For $20 you are not going to find better conditions in the metroplex. Pecan Valley keeps their greens in average-good condition all year long. Usually the rounds can be a bit slow, especially on the river course during a weekend. We got on after a tournament on a Saturday afternoon and played the hills course in less than 3 hours. If you are looking for a less difficult round of golf without the frills that come with a higher green fee, I highly recommend this place.
Pretty Good
In a 2 year drought but the condition of the Hills Course is in petty good shape. This is a good track with challenging shots and some easy holes. Good for all levels.
Beautiful Greens
No on course beverage service on the day we where there.
Nice Surprise
Played the River course at 7:45am on a Saturday and was extremely surprised at how nice this place was. Fairways were lush, rough was thick, so you need to stay in the fairway. Greens have a lot of undulations and are good sized. The only negative were the bumpiness because greens still recovering from being aerated 2-weeks ago. Pace of play was good, although it is very crowded, but fortunately we finish right at 4 hours. Can't wait to play course again !
Greens in aeration during my time.
Golf now really should post on the website that the greens are in aeration. I would not have paid what I did knowing this.
Nice Friday at the Golf Course
Played Pecan Valley River and really like the course, greens rolled nice and the course is in good condition, a few bugs but hey its Texas, what are you gonna do!
Pecan valley hills
Over all good for the money. Only paid $26 with fees. But they could have maintained the course a little better. Seems like all there focus is on the river course.
Course is in great shape
Course is in great shape...the fairways, greens and most t boxes are well maintained...the course is long just over 6000 yards from the whites...the bermuda rough around the greens is extremely thick...I love this course..
Great Muni
Fairways and greens were in great shape, the recent rain helped. Tee boxes were also in great shape. Pace of play was average for a Saturday. I prefer this course over the river.
Good value
Fun course that is in very good condition. Greens are a little slick but get used to them in a couple of holes. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Only thing we didn't like was the pace of play is slower than most courses we play. But, if that doesn't bother you you should give this course a try. You'll have fun.
Great Course, Go Play
This was my first time playing this course. I thought it was awesome, the greens were very nice on every hole. It was a great value as well. Paid $32 on a Friday and it was worth every penny. The fairways are in great shape. I will definitely be back to play here again.
Nice Layout
I've play Pecan Valley - Hills course and few times and I find it moderately challenging. On some holes, it reminds me on a links course and other holes a more traditional American golf course. The fairways and greens were in very good conditions. The price I paid to play was fantastic. I definitely would recommend this course particularly if you get a good price through GolfNow.
Best shape I've seen
I've played the hills multiple times over the years and the course is in the best shape that I've seen.
easy course. pace of play was great.
green are way to slow. but overall in good condition.
Pleasantly surprised
The greens rolled true if not tricky. The course was pretty nice.
Nice course, but bad greens.
The greens on the Hill course were chewed up. Every putt bounced and changed direction multiple times. Otherwise, nice course.
Perfect for a weekend golfer!!
Scored a deal on Golf Now for $30! Tee time was @ 4:22 for a twosome on the River Course, we finished up at 7:40 fastest round of golf I played in a long time! Well maintained for a city owned golf course! Greens were a little bumpy but rolled really quick, look like they had just top dressed the greens on Friday or Thursday. Can't wait to go back and play they Hills Course! Great value and perfect layout for us weekend golfers! Thanks Pecan Valley for a great time!
