The Golf Club At Fossil Creek
About
Designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, the links-style Golf Club at Fossil Creek was nominated by Golf Digest as one of the best new public golf courses in Texas when it opened in 1987, and has lived up to that advance billing since then. The course is scenic, with massive trees, limestone bluffs, bubbling creeks, and numerous lakes that bring water into play on 15 of 18 holes. The course boasts pretty rolling fairways and 18 testing holes all intertwined throughout streams created by Fossil Creek. It's surrounded by rocky-ledged creeks and crystal lakes.

Fun course
First time at this course and will return. Fairways were in great shape, plush and the ball sitting up perfectly. The only negative was the greens as they are probably due for a punching. Long putts would bounce a few times as there were small dirt piles on the green which made them inconsistent from hole to hole. I imagine they are great in top condition but likely need some work at present. That being said, the layout was really fun and some of the holes that cross the creek were worth a picture. Despite the number of people on the course pace of play was adequate -- 4 hours for a friday afternoon is not terrible and the worst offenders were only a hole behind max.
A must play if in the Ft Worth area
Despite the heat, round was awesome! Very scenic and challenging course. Course was in great shape. Really enjoyed the sheer walls that had to be carried onto green. Go play it if you can!
Definition of what’s wrong with golf
I came out and managed to zip through the first nine and things were going fine until I was driving to 10 tee and stopped by an employee who was out playing golf on what I assume was his off day.
After he spit out a large wad of chew less than five feet in front of me he told me I had to stop and wait for what turned out to be nearly 20 minutes for another single a hole behind me to pair up with in the middle of the round. There was a group on 10 who offered to let me play thru but I instead sat there on the tee box waiting for this single. There were three open holes in front of me.
The course did not have a starter, the guy at the desk said go whenever you want and they are somehow surprised that people went when their tee time was up and the tee box open. Forcing singles to pair up in the middle of a round with an open course in front of them is why we have pace of play issues.
Tip for the GM: don’t let your employees spit dip in front of customers. Also, don’t uselessly add an hour to someone’s pace of play if you want them to come back. Your course isn’t that good that it can get away with it.
What a day
I wish this could be my home course but Plano is a little far. Fantastic golf course, back 9 is beautiful. I'll be back soon
Overpriced and overrated
Played fossil creek with my son for my birthday, spent $150 on our green fees and still had to pay for range balls , had to take the receipt for green fees and receipt for range balls to the starter who treated us like we were a bother to say the least, thought we were going to have to show some sort of identification, we were then directed to the mats at the range, yep, $150 to play and extra for the range balls to hit off of mats, when we tried to hit a couple with our drivers the starter/range policeman instructed us to stick the tee in the mat if we wanted to hit driver, in general the distasteful start to a special day made the days experience one to be forgotten. There are 3 avid golfers in our family and we play a lot of golf but I assure you that will be the last round and money spent at this golf course.
Great course shape
Course looked great and greens were in great shape as well. Thank you
Poo Customer Service
I purchased the hot deal from golf now a few days before we were to play and ended up being able to get to the course earlier than expected. Since the course was literally wide open (maybe 1-2 slots filled from 12:30 to 2 pm) we asked to tee off early and the pro in the shop refused to let us go early so I asked to play 9 holes before which was also turned down. Golf now even called to see if we could tee off early as well. Then he explained that he would not release the cart key to us until 2 pm and no sooner. Finally we have our cart and go putt a few before our round. Pro shop will still not let us tee off early meanwhile another group pulls up and is allowed to jump ahead of us because they paid more than we did according to the starter. Then to top it off once we were on the tee box we heard the pro shop call the starter and inform him our group is still not to tee off until 2:30 and the group ahead of us was on the green. Just poor customer service all around by the course pro I'll take by business elsewhere.
Condition of course
I’m a pretty avid player around the metroplex and this course and Iron horse and southern oaks and hidden creek are the 4 best condition courses I have played as far as greens and and fairways being in great condition - I try playing a different course every other day and these are so good choices - Canyon West and Sugartree are some good ones as well right now. As far as Fort Worth and West of Fort Worth - hopefully I’m a help for your choice - Fossil Creeks Greens are by far the best - fast - firm and true rolling
Wonderful course
This course definitely makes you hit a variety of clubs off the tee box, with each hole having its own way of punishing you for an errant shot. The fairways were in excellent shape and greens rolled true and quick. Bunkers were well-maintained. Several fun carry shots over water and some elevated greens make for a nice change of pace. Don’t play here if you’re looking to primarily hit driver off every tee. Will be back here in the near future.
Excellent mid week getaway.
Wind was brutal but course was in great condition for early spring. Very little traffic so I got around in under 3 hours. Fantastic.
Nice layout with interesting elevation changes
This course was a real treat. There are forced carries on most holes, but none that are so punitive, that you can't enjoy the round. Even with a stiff breeze, I found the course to be fair. Being an early March round, I look forward to coming back when everything is lush and green. The creek/river that meanders through the course and provides the limestone wall protecting some of the greens from short shots, makes for a very scenic layout.
great course
Lots of unique, interesting and definitely fun holes. Greens are in excellent shape. fairways in good condition but grass is dormant/ brown. Pace of play acceptable.
Good course and very well kept. It was a little slow, but we kept pace. Nice place...
Overall Great Course
I played this course last Saturday around 8 am with 2 other buddies and it was the first time any of us had ever played here. We were all in agreement that the course was great overall. The staff was friendly and helpful and the course was in great shape. We really loved the course layout and the variety of the hole designs gave you the opportunity to use most clubs in the bag and hit all types of shots. It was challenging, but not ridiculously hard like some tracts I can think of.
The greens were in great shape, rolled true, were somewhat firm, but receptive enough to good spinning shots, challenging to read, and they were FAST! Even being early and still damp, they were FAST. Now that I've seen the layout and greens, I would love to go back and play it again. We all agreed that we will absolutely be back to Fossil Creek soon. This is one of my new top 3 favorites in the Fort Worth area.
The only thing close to a negative would be the lack of visible yardage markers or GPS in carts. There were just 150 stakes. It's not much of a negative. GPS would be nice, but I highly recommend this course and will be back soon.
Out of Carts
Our tee time was delayed by 40 minutes because they ran out of carts....that was a first for me. I understand it was a busy day but how do you over book your cart availability. Very frustrating we didn't get a round in.
