Designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, the links-style Golf Club at Fossil Creek was nominated by Golf Digest as one of the best new public golf courses in Texas when it opened in 1987, and has lived up to that advance billing since then. The course is scenic, with massive trees, limestone bluffs, bubbling creeks, and numerous lakes that bring water into play on 15 of 18 holes. The course boasts pretty rolling fairways and 18 testing holes all intertwined throughout streams created by Fossil Creek. It's surrounded by rocky-ledged creeks and crystal lakes.

Needs Work....but Staff is Awesome!

Fossil Creek can be extremely challenging, even at 6800 yards. However, all 3-Pars are under construction, and many fairways have brown grass or even no grass (i.e., "dirt"). Leave the driver at home - most tee shots I used a 3,4,5,6, or 7 iron (yes, I hit a 7 iron off of a 4-Par tee box). Course navigation is a must, and I found the GPS in the cart to be quite accurate and useful. Hate the "Pace of Play" ads on the Eagle golf courses - they take longer to watch than to get up and just hit your ball (wouldn't a simple sign at hole #1 function just fine?). Greens are the gold standard of Fort Worth though, and felt to be ~10 or 11 on the stimpmeter. They were excellent. Pace was terribly slow. The course staff was very friendly, and I utilized MULTIPLE cart girls during the round - and there is a separate "watering hole" after the 7th green that is up and running - hotdogs and burgers are available. I would play again, but probably only because the staff was great and the greens were beautiful to roll putts on. The course is...just OK... Typical of the "In Community" style courses there are a number of layup and blind shots. Lee the starter was helpful and gave me a number of problems to look out for - 77 with 2 doubles, a hole out from the fairway, and a chip in birdie. The wind was BRUTAL...

usually good course but tee boxes under repair

I play this course often but last time I played the majority of the holes had the tee boxes under repair and all were move up drastically. Some par 3's play only 100 yards. One tee box was fully make-shift temporary tee box that was in direct line of the water jug stand. In addition the course marshal came and chewed us out for slow play when it was actually the group in front of us. He later aplogized. This is not the service or course I have come to know. A little heads up on the temp tee boxes would have been nice

Fossil creek review

This is a nice course but it's under construction at least four holes that all of the tee boxes were under construction. Sand traps were excellent and the greens were speedy and soft. This course will be nice once construction is done but is not worth the money while it's being fixed. Several holes that I was on the construction crew on a tractor would drive up while teeing off. The beverage cart girl I didn't even see her till the nineth hole.

Great Conditions and Great Value

The greens rolled fast and true. Also, you can't beat the price after 1pm on the weekday to play such a gem of a course.

Another great course by Palmer

This was a great experience for me and the course was 100 per cent awesome. The green was fast and I thought I would not play it that well, but fun and challenge at the same time. I will do my best to return to this course! Any golfer that would like to experience what the Pros play this is the one. My challenge to all golfers is to go out in play it. I promise you will love this course too! Go play!

Fun times for a great deal!

Got a golfnow deal for $26. Course was in pretty good shape but not as good as previous times. Tee boxes needed work, and some fairways were the worst condition I have seen in years. Course ate my lunch. Was still fun and I almost had my first hole in one ever on #13.

Nice course

Course was in great shape except a couple of fariways had some damaged areas. The green were fast and great. Staff was very friendly. Pace of play was the only problem. Did not see a marshal to help move people along. Getting the tee time on Golf Now made the green fee a great bargain.

Fun Course greens in great shape

Hot 100 degree day was made bearable by a 20 mph wind out of the south.
First time on this Arnold Palmer designed course and enjoyed this track. Lots of water in play and shot placement is key. I would recommend this course.

Such a good course, but can play so slow.

I played Fossil Creek for a second time a week ago. I love the course itself. The layout and conditions are great. Many of the holes require some strategic and accurate shots off of the tee to setup for a shot at the green. To get out and play this course for $27 on a Friday afternoon is a great deal. I live in Dallas so typically have about an hour drive out to Ft. Worth with all the construction, but it is usually worth it. The fairways are in great shape and not dried out at all. The greens are also in great shape. They could have rolled a little faster, but it’s August in Texas so I won’t complain.

Both times I have played this course; the pace of play has been very slow. Last Friday, many of the holes required my group to wait on not just one group ahead of us, but two to three on many of the tee boxes. I’ve never seen a course so crowded. I understand not wanting to turn people away from playing, but my god, I’ve never seen tee times so close back to back. My round ultimately took 5 and half hours to play. I love being on the course, but anyone who golfs consistently knows how bad this can make a round. I would love to play this course weekly, but I will continue to play it sparingly because of this. The last thing I want to do is play a that long of a round when I have a long drive home. There are other many great options in the MetroPlex that have the same quality and challenge as Fossil Creek, but maintain pace of play much better.

If you are willing to play at a slow pace for a great course, then I certainly recommend Fossil Creek.

Fossil creek Tuesday

Course was in good shape. White tees were a little to far forward. Drove green on # 4 with ease hit 5 iron off # 7. If the these tees were moved up by the "pace of play" police then I think it was overboard.

Fossil Creek is a great place to play. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The course is in great shape. The fairways are perfect, the greens, although a little slow, we very smooth. I saw a review critical of the bunkers on the course. It appears they have new sand in all bunkers and they are in very good shape as well.

I played by myself on a Thursday afternoon; no waiting, about a 3:45 minute round; I took my time to enjoy the course.

Arnie's Pub is a great place after the round with friendly staff as well.

a great test!

Great playing conditions as course was full green. Greens are smooth as marble so be careful. Very breezy n windy when I played...think about clubbing up 1 or 2 into the wind. Def has the defining characteristics of an Arnie course.

Great Place! Horrible Traffic

We played on a Wednesday. Even then, they were fully staffed. There's a grill on the course somewhere on the back 9, good pit stop. Cart service was great, gorgeous cart staff. Fairways were in good condition. Greens were inconsistent though. Good condition, but some played extra fast, some slow. Lots of leaves on the course meant you almost always had to clear your putting green before putting. All in all. Good experience. Would love to play here again, but the I35W traffic is horrible!

Not what it used to be

Play here 2X per year. The greens were great. The tee boxes chewed up. Too many dead patches in the fairways for all the rain and sun we have had. Bunkers were awful. I hit the weedblock fabic in the bunker on 18. Not even an inch of sand where my ball was. This course used to be a destination course. It is not their fault that mother nature took down a bunch of trees. The conditions - other than the greens - are not up to the standard of an upper level public access course - sorry, but there are now better choices. When Texas Star re-opens that is where I will go for a high quality public access course
