Designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, the links-style Golf Club at Fossil Creek was nominated by Golf Digest as one of the best new public golf courses in Texas when it opened in 1987, and has lived up to that advance billing since then. The course is scenic, with massive trees, limestone bluffs, bubbling creeks, and numerous lakes that bring water into play on 15 of 18 holes. The course boasts pretty rolling fairways and 18 testing holes all intertwined throughout streams created by Fossil Creek. It's surrounded by rocky-ledged creeks and crystal lakes.

Bad staff, everything was dirty, driving range terrible.

I had heard good things about the course, so I decided to pay a $39 twilight rate (somewhat high but not terrible). I asked for a bucket of balls and was charged $12. Then a $5 GPS fee. DO NOT TURN YOUR GPS ON AND YOU GET YOUR MONEY BACK (they do not tell you this upon arrival). Get the Golflogix app on your phone instead.
There were 5 groups of 4 ahead of my group and no marshall to see them going. It took me 3 hours and 10 minutes to play 12 holes, so I left. The golf shop attendant (looked like the head pro) couldn't give a care about it, and didn't even offer me anything for compensation. All he said was "I believe it out here".
The course does not go back to the club house, and the snack bar on 6/15 was closed, along with the bathrooms... Although the genius snack bar attendant left all the signs out saying that it was open!

Not worth the money. If you frequent golf and want to play a decent course, get a membership somewhere instead of playing this place. The carts were terrible and obviously hadn't been washed... EVER.

greens recently sanded, other than that excellent condition

Love the course, however play is always slow. For the price they charge they should have a starter and an on course marshal to speed up play.Marshals must be a dying breed.

Nice Course...

Fun, challenging course, you'll enjoy it. The greens, however, are not in the best shape. Not horrible but could use some attention.

Overall a very good course

Very fun Arnold Palmer signature course. For much of the round, I forgot a was in Fort Worth. I grew up in the Carolina's and have played many rounds in Florida. This course reminded me of some of the coastal courses I have played because of the water surrounding many of the greens and fairways. Despite all the houses along the course, it is pretty scenic. The par 3's all required pretty accurate shots due to the hazards surrounding the greens, and the par 5's made it challenging to get to the green in 2. This course is well thought out and with small, challenging greens. I enjoyed the variety of par 4's and having to be smart about club choice off the tee. Despite the 40 minute drive here, I will definitely be back playing this course multiple times this summer. Everything was in great shape, however I would wait a couple weeks because the greens had just been aerated last week, they are healing quickly though.

Fun course, need a marshal for pace of play.

Fossil Creek is a fun course. You really have to work your ball both ways to score. Not a big-hitters, course; more suited for golfers who like to plot and manage the course. Greens were great, but the pace of play was BRUTAL. We never saw a single marshal out there to speed things up.

bit disorganized

Our time was pushed back due to larger than planned participation in a tournament scheduled before hand. Fees and cart rental were zero for the inconvenience but due to the schedule change we could not even get 9 holes in before it became too dark to play.

Course was well manicured and maintained albeit a bit confusing to the first timer since they did not provide a hole to tee layout. The cart paths helped but more signage leading from hole to hole is definitely needed.

Staff was extremely friendly and helpful but limited in their powers to administer guidance or assistance. Pro shop was a bit difficult to find( located at the rear of the main building) but clean and inviting.

With more rounds, the layout will be natural to me, but in the meanwhile, hole placement was obscured and not visible from the tee box.

Happy with first adventure playing this course and will return when given a chance to play a full round. Would recommend with mild optimism to others.

Play from the correct tee box

I played Fossil Creek on Monday 5/13/13. It was my first time to play this course. Nice clubhouse and pro shop attendant was cordial. You better like hitting off mats on the range because that's all you have. It was my first clue space was going to be an issue here. The course was in decent condition. There are too many "quirky" short holes on this course. Iron off the tee box and a wedge to the green and probably 6-7 holes. The par 4's you can hit driver on are also very short. It did not find this course as challenging as I had hoped. In my opinion, a higher handicap golfer would enjoy this course more than lower handicap. I played the course from the Palmer tees.....and I really can't see how this course deserves a slope of 137 and a rating of 73.

A fun and challenging layout.

Fossil Creek is a well managed course. The staff does a good job in respect to scheduling players and making sure golfers tee off on time. The course was in great shape as always and the staff was very friendly and courteous.

very good golf experience.

I'm from drouthy west Texas. It was really nice to play on green fairway's. Course was very well maintained. Staff was super polite and accommodating. My son in law - a beginner- commented that it was the nicest course he had played on yet.
I will definitely play Fossil Creek again.

Played Saturday 5/4 after 4pm

The course was crowded, as you would expect for a saturday afternoon. Me and my partner, a real long baller and Pelotero, were paired up with 2 singles, and though we had to wait, we still finished right at sundown, in a little over 4 hrs.
The course was in great shape, the greens had a little more break to them as they were dry and fast. Fossil Creek is kept up very nicely and its always enjoyable to play there, IF you can find the right price. We found a few balls, and lost a few too.

Need to know where to hit it...

The starter was a very nice guy but no marshall, check in staff takes the money and sends you on your way. I wasn't told where to get the range balls, where to get a cart etc etc. I enjoyed the course but would not play it again unless it was highly discounted. This is not due to the course itself but due to the staff. Knowing they charged $5 for GPS on the cart, I did not use it as I had my own. I went in to get a credit and even that was an apparent bother to them even though they should be use to it.

Great course with friendly staff.

Fairways were in great shape. Greens were a little sandy from being recently punched, but ran true for the most part. Staff was great. Highly recommend Fossil Creek.
