The Golf Club At Fossil Creek
About
Designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, the links-style Golf Club at Fossil Creek was nominated by Golf Digest as one of the best new public golf courses in Texas when it opened in 1987, and has lived up to that advance billing since then. The course is scenic, with massive trees, limestone bluffs, bubbling creeks, and numerous lakes that bring water into play on 15 of 18 holes. The course boasts pretty rolling fairways and 18 testing holes all intertwined throughout streams created by Fossil Creek. It's surrounded by rocky-ledged creeks and crystal lakes.

great course that was...
the course is a gem...one of my favorites. The clubhouse was great but not used by the current owners. Nice lockers and shower facility but that was then....(5 stars). Now they decided to modernize the clubhouse by ripping out the lockers, expanding a useless golf shop, and getting rid of the showers (the muni way). Maybe its me, but i enjoy a nice shower after a round so i can go home clean. I guess the modern muni thinks i'm not worth it anymore. Fossil Creek seemed to agree. too bad :(
If you dont care about the clubhouse facility (i think i'm an old school minority) than go because the course is still one of the best.
Super Evening's Golf
Arrived at the course as a single player but quickly got paired up.
Etiquette on the course was very good as we got called through all other two and three ballers, which made for a quick round.
Back to Fossil Creek Golf Club
It had been years since I played Fossil Creek Golf Club in north Fort Worth area. I played there when I first moved to Flower Mound in 2006 - 07, but had not returned since. Not because I didn't like the course, but it is a little bit of a trip. My new project is just 15 minutes from the course, so it is much more convenient. I played at approximately 2:45 PM on a Friday. The green fee was a little on the higher side for twilight, but not out of bounds.
I didn't remember much of the course, but it is a very good test of golf. I'm a 7-8 handicap and on this day I played from the Blue or Palmer Tees. Course was about 6575 yards on the card. The course was in good shape despite very little rain and dry conditions over the last month. The course demands that you hit a shot at points in time due to the holes crossing Fossil Creek. Some of the tee shots require you to hit a 5 wood or 3 hybrid off the tee to put you in position. Although I don't always like that you have to hit a decent shot. Greens vary in size and were in good condition. Overall the course is a good test and I would recommend it.
The only thing I did not like was the hidden $5 charge for the GPS. On golfnow it indicated that I was to pay $42 at the course, but they charged me $47. I made mention of it to the guy behind the counter, but he didn't give me any indication why it was a little extra. I found out why from a twosome that plays there often enough. I will say the GPS is accurate since I have a Bushnell. $5 won't make or break my wanting to return, but since I have a Bushnell I might like to know that up front. However, I may have missed a disclaimer.
Wow
I got a deal for 29.00 after 4pm on Golfnow on a Saturday. Boy was I impressed. I have played just about all the courses in DFW and I must say, Fossil Creek is the best so far. The course has fine white sand, scenic views and challenging holes.
Pros:
- Excellent fairways, greens, bunkers and tee boxes
- Superb layout, every hole makes you think and penalizes you accordingly when you don't
- Scenic views
- Friendly club house
Cons:
- None
This place has it all. I played in the late afternoon and the views on some of the tee boxes with the sun going down took my breath away. Pace of play was a bit slow but I was playing with two first timers so I can't really knock the course for that. A must play.
The course was in great shape, some holes were very challenging.
I had played this course about 7 - 8 years ago and did not remember the course. I cannot wait to go back now. The course was in excellent shape, kudos to the course maintenace folks!
The value was great and the replay rate is fantastic, just wish I had more time to play it again that day.
Great course, as always
I mean, what is there to say that already has been said time and time again? Great staff, fantastic course, perfectly maintained. The guys in the Clubhouse were cool, greens were soft and fast, and the drink cart girl was pleasant to see 3 different times around the course. This place is highly recommended.
Greens in good condition, fairways fair.
Thought the condition was only fair but price was a little high for what we received. Also let a five person group play in front of us which slowed play. Overall interesting course so would recommend to someone for decent game of golf.
Outstanding condition.
Staff was super and the golf course is in great shape. Greens and quick but fair and the hole locations were challenging to get to. Pace of play was about 4 hours and the GPS in the carts really help with yardage when you don't know the course that well. We had a blast.
Leave the driver. Ball placement in center of fairway is important more so than distance and in the rough.
Fairways some what tight and ball placement is the key..even if short with iron. Water in play on a few holes with no chance of retrieving lost balls. Conditions were wendy and dry. Greens very hard.
My new favorite
Beautiful, challenging fair. I had played here years ago. Glad to return. I'll definitely be back.
Great FW Course
Down side is there is only a few tee times during the day you can get for under $40.
Nonetheless its a great course for someone who wants a challenge.
Bad staff, everything was dirty, driving range terrible.
I had heard good things about the course, so I decided to pay a $39 twilight rate (somewhat high but not terrible). I asked for a bucket of balls and was charged $12. Then a $5 GPS fee. DO NOT TURN YOUR GPS ON AND YOU GET YOUR MONEY BACK (they do not tell you this upon arrival). Get the Golflogix app on your phone instead.
There were 5 groups of 4 ahead of my group and no marshall to see them going. It took me 3 hours and 10 minutes to play 12 holes, so I left. The golf shop attendant (looked like the head pro) couldn't give a care about it, and didn't even offer me anything for compensation. All he said was "I believe it out here".
The course does not go back to the club house, and the snack bar on 6/15 was closed, along with the bathrooms... Although the genius snack bar attendant left all the signs out saying that it was open!
Not worth the money. If you frequent golf and want to play a decent course, get a membership somewhere instead of playing this place. The carts were terrible and obviously hadn't been washed... EVER.
This course has varieuty of hole concepts and elevations
The course was in great shape! The greens fast and where well maintained! This course will play difficult if your not a great ball striker but its worth the money...great place to play.
greens recently sanded, other than that excellent condition
Love the course, however play is always slow. For the price they charge they should have a starter and an on course marshal to speed up play.Marshals must be a dying breed.
Awesome course
Great round of golf. Course in great condition. Very aesthetic
Fossil Creek Memorial Weekend
I love this course, its challenging and the course is in great shape. I wish i could play it more.
Nice Course...
Fun, challenging course, you'll enjoy it. The greens, however, are not in the best shape. Not horrible but could use some attention.
Overall a very good course
Very fun Arnold Palmer signature course. For much of the round, I forgot a was in Fort Worth. I grew up in the Carolina's and have played many rounds in Florida. This course reminded me of some of the coastal courses I have played because of the water surrounding many of the greens and fairways. Despite all the houses along the course, it is pretty scenic. The par 3's all required pretty accurate shots due to the hazards surrounding the greens, and the par 5's made it challenging to get to the green in 2. This course is well thought out and with small, challenging greens. I enjoyed the variety of par 4's and having to be smart about club choice off the tee. Despite the 40 minute drive here, I will definitely be back playing this course multiple times this summer. Everything was in great shape, however I would wait a couple weeks because the greens had just been aerated last week, they are healing quickly though.
Fun course, need a marshal for pace of play.
Fossil Creek is a fun course. You really have to work your ball both ways to score. Not a big-hitters, course; more suited for golfers who like to plot and manage the course. Greens were great, but the pace of play was BRUTAL. We never saw a single marshal out there to speed things up.
