Riverside Golf Club is appropriately named. The course sits in a floodplain along the Trinity River with water in play on seemingly every hole. This is a combination links-style/traditional layout that is surprisingly difficult for a municipal course. Great holes abound on the Roger Packard layout, which requires the rare combination of length and accuracy when playing from the tips.

Holes 4-6 offer one of the better stretches of golf, starting with a 462-yard par 4 that is cut in the landing area by pesky fairway bunkers, and features a long approach into an elevated green that is surrounded by water and slopes back-to-front. Club down on no. 4 because leaving it short still offers the chance for an up-and-down. No. 5 is a good par 3, especially from the middle tees where it generally plays as a short iron. Watch for the front pin placement, which can leave you with a long downhill putt if the tee shot is too long. Water looms to the right but it takes a bad shank to dunk it in the drink. No. 6 goes 543 yards, doglegging left along the Trinity with water fronting the green. The tee shot must be long and straight, and anything too far right leaves a precarious second shot around the bend.

The back side is the more fun of the two, taking you through good combinations of holes that offer excellent birdie opportunities if you’re on your game. You'll need those birds when you come down the home stretch.

Lack of Carts

Every time I play here they do not have golf carts so you’re stuck waiting around for guys to finish. We even missed our tee time by 20 mins because we were waiting for a cart. Couldn’t go hit on the range or anything before because no carts. This is every Saturday. I won’t be back until they buy more golf carts.

Riverside 2026

I have played this course since it opened almost 40 years ago. I ,haven’t play the course in the last 2 or 3 years. I was disappointed to see the number of trees that have been lost to various storms and the Trinity River eating into some fairways. But the overall layout of the course is still there to enjoy.

I played with a friend, so it was just the two of us. We found all the people playing to be friendly. The foursome in front of us let us play through them and then a threesome let us play through. Even with the few delays we played the course in 3 1/2 hours.

Good Course - Needs Help

The rate of play is abysmal. It took 3 of us 5hr 10min to complete 18 holes. Either the tee times need to be more spaced out, or they need field marshals roaming both the front and back 9s. The starter, Randy, is a very friendly guy. And the clubhouse staff/cart person are great. However, the pace is tough to swallow. It completely throws off the rhythm of the round. There was a 4some who had their dog out on the course. I love dogs as much as the next person, but when your handicap is a +200 having a dog out there is a bit discourteous.

First week after the "Dallas Freeze".

Nice to be playing again. Cool, grass dry but still a good ball roll. Greens were slippery. Still a very challenging round of golf.

Pace of play 0 stars

Booked 18, took 2 hours and 45 minutes to get through 9. No marshal. Driving range was closed because they ran out of balls. Practice green by the clubhouse hasn’t been cut since 1995. No cart girl on a friday. Conditions were decent and layout looks like it could be fun, wish I could’ve seen the back. A couple of holes running parallel cause issues, almost got hit a couple times. Pace of play made the round unenjoyable.

Great layout but conditions going downhill

Always love this place. It’s a fantastic layout. Bunkers are amazing. Unfortunately every bunker was a complete mess. I think they were concentrating more on getting rid of all of the super high weeds all around the water which in some cases you couldn’t even see the green because these weeds were so high I don’t know why they just don’t stay on them constantly instead of letting them just go crazy but the greens are always fantastic. It’s just there’s a lot of mud in some areas as well where your ball just get stuck just off the green instead of rolling.

Riverside golf course

Really good course if was challenging and was kept up really well

For the price. Needs some work on their golf cart quality. Having no spectators on the weekend is bummer and having to be paired with a random who threw his clubs was an even bigger bummer. Overall it was nice. Just wouldn’t go by myself on the weekend
