Riverside Golf Club
About
Riverside Golf Club is appropriately named. The course sits in a floodplain along the Trinity River with water in play on seemingly every hole. This is a combination links-style/traditional layout that is surprisingly difficult for a municipal course. Great holes abound on the Roger Packard layout, which requires the rare combination of length and accuracy when playing from the tips.
Holes 4-6 offer one of the better stretches of golf, starting with a 462-yard par 4 that is cut in the landing area by pesky fairway bunkers, and features a long approach into an elevated green that is surrounded by water and slopes back-to-front. Club down on no. 4 because leaving it short still offers the chance for an up-and-down. No. 5 is a good par 3, especially from the middle tees where it generally plays as a short iron. Watch for the front pin placement, which can leave you with a long downhill putt if the tee shot is too long. Water looms to the right but it takes a bad shank to dunk it in the drink. No. 6 goes 543 yards, doglegging left along the Trinity with water fronting the green. The tee shot must be long and straight, and anything too far right leaves a precarious second shot around the bend.
The back side is the more fun of the two, taking you through good combinations of holes that offer excellent birdie opportunities if you’re on your game. You'll need those birds when you come down the home stretch.

Nice Course for price
Overall the course is enjoyable and in fairly good condition. Greens in great shape. Front desk staff is really friendly. Only thing about this course is there are some dog leg holes along the river that are just silly. Landing spot is crazy small or blind. Fairway bunkers are full of grass and weeds.
But overall a nice course to jump on for a quick round. I played late wed morning as a single and casually played with only catching one group who let me play through. Excellent pace of play.
Riverside eh
I was spraying the ball to both sides of the fairwary all day - the greens and fairways are in great shape for the Texas heat - but if you get off the fairways you will get hit with some really nasty ruts, holes and bone breaking hits - the course is due for some dozer work and sod - weeds have taken over much of the back nine - the sand traps haven't been paid any attention all year - they are overgrown w/ weeds and if you rake them it will be their first raking in months - the edges haven't been cut this year - if the grounskeeper has been fired I'd understand the conditions - they are bad -
Nice track
First time playing course. Fun track! They’ve had a lot of rain so fairways were in great condition and the greens were receptable but very very fast. Fun play!
Perhaps a bad day to go
Due to the rains, the driving range was closed. I usually like to warm up with a small bucket And golf carts were cart path only. A couple of holes were washed out but overall the course was in pretty good shape. Pace of play was slow. Staff was friendly and golf cart girl made it around af few times during the round.
Brutal
Golf course was super backed up when we got there for our teatime. We were supposed to tee off at 3:15 but ended up waiting until almost 4:00. It didn’t get any better from there.Proceed with caution.
Very nice course for the money. Excellent value. Just need to organize the start, everyone just tees off whenever so you have twosomes, foursomes all mixed together with no gaps causing extensive waits on the course.
The good, the bad, and a little ugly
Tees and fairways in generally good shape, greens varied from good to fair with invasive grasses on many, and some traps were hopelessly choked with grass and weren’t groomed in at least several weeks. For the price I did not expect Augusta National, but did expect routine maintenance to be up to date. Had not played here in several years and it was well below what I remembered in condition. Still, the layout is really good, errant shots are costly, and finding the fairway is highly recommended even at the expense of a few yards.
Frustrating
Couldn’t even get a golf cart till 5 min before tee time and other twosome with us didn’t get one till after we had finished the 1st hole and then 3 groups piled up on second so guess they weren’t as late after the pile up wait for the rest of the round.
Lack of Carts
Every time I play here they do not have golf carts so you’re stuck waiting around for guys to finish. We even missed our tee time by 20 mins because we were waiting for a cart. Couldn’t go hit on the range or anything before because no carts. This is every Saturday. I won’t be back until they buy more golf carts.
Riverside 2026
I have played this course since it opened almost 40 years ago. I ,haven’t play the course in the last 2 or 3 years. I was disappointed to see the number of trees that have been lost to various storms and the Trinity River eating into some fairways. But the overall layout of the course is still there to enjoy.
I played with a friend, so it was just the two of us. We found all the people playing to be friendly. The foursome in front of us let us play through them and then a threesome let us play through. Even with the few delays we played the course in 3 1/2 hours.
