Riverside Golf Club
About
Riverside Golf Club is appropriately named. The course sits in a floodplain along the Trinity River with water in play on seemingly every hole. This is a combination links-style/traditional layout that is surprisingly difficult for a municipal course. Great holes abound on the Roger Packard layout, which requires the rare combination of length and accuracy when playing from the tips.
Holes 4-6 offer one of the better stretches of golf, starting with a 462-yard par 4 that is cut in the landing area by pesky fairway bunkers, and features a long approach into an elevated green that is surrounded by water and slopes back-to-front. Club down on no. 4 because leaving it short still offers the chance for an up-and-down. No. 5 is a good par 3, especially from the middle tees where it generally plays as a short iron. Watch for the front pin placement, which can leave you with a long downhill putt if the tee shot is too long. Water looms to the right but it takes a bad shank to dunk it in the drink. No. 6 goes 543 yards, doglegging left along the Trinity with water fronting the green. The tee shot must be long and straight, and anything too far right leaves a precarious second shot around the bend.
The back side is the more fun of the two, taking you through good combinations of holes that offer excellent birdie opportunities if you’re on your game. You'll need those birds when you come down the home stretch.

Anxious for spring
Course layout good. The creek has truly done some damage. Excited to see green grass. Staff is excellent. Starter was a great transplant from PA.
Slow
Very slow pace from 3 groups of 4 in front of us. made for a long day!
After 5.5 hrs ended up quitting with 2 holes to go
Challenging Course, Good Value
I first played this last summer and found the layout very challenging. Played recently because it was pretty cheap, comparatively. Perhaps coincidentally, both rounds were under heavy wind. There are many tee shots that you have to hit to a somewhat blind location, so it helps to have a vet in the group help you out. A few holes can rock you if you don't hit your tee shot in the right place. There are also quite a few hills that leave you with tough lies, and the greens are small. I would say the course was still under winter conditions when I played this last time, and the greens were great for the time of year. They roll true and are acceptably fast. Tee boxes are decent. Good round for the price, but it's about 5 strokes harder than an easier course.
Difficult Course on a Windy Day!
It was a Cold/Windy day so that complicated things---it was basically 40 degrees the entire round...
What I like about this course is the variety of holes, the HUGE yawning bunkers (the bunkers were M/L full and the sand was great), the links like undulations of the fairways and the overall look to your eye...it's very pretty, but challenging...
What I don't like is essentially this was only my 2nd time playing it and local knowledge is a HUGE benefit...the view off the tee often present as near to nothing to shoot at---you need to KNOW where you can miss and where to aim and as it was only my 2nd time---I didn't...secondarily the greens are often long and narrow (and fast), so there's no much room to miss if you clear the bunker on the fly...
Also it was windy and it seemed like all of the longest holes were INTO the wind, making Par 4's play like Par 5's...
It's a real shotmaker's course and one that values shot by shot strategy and a good feel for what the layout will let you attack and when it's punitive...
So IF you KNOW the course and you're straight off the tee and don't mind big bunkers, it's pretty straightforward---just manage your game. But if you're new to it or playing without the benefit of someone with local knowledge, it can REALLY eat you up!
Good course
This was a comfortable course for me since it has wide open fairways & is pretty forgiving. Love it when you don’t have to worry about breaking out windows; a beginners nightmare! It was February so conditions were not ideal. I imagine this course is spectacular in spring. It was easy enough for beginners and challenging enough for more advanced players. Pace of play was a little slow but the marshal was trying to speed things up. It was a windy day on the course but would definitely go back.
It’s been awhile.
It’s been several years since i last played Riverside, overall I liked the course. Most of the greens were too fast for my tastes butt the course flow and layout i liked. I wish someone would carry something different items or the beverage cart. Beef jerky, Diet Mt Dew, Salt Vinegar chips. Etc.
Good Course for the money
Winter
Driving range is like hitting of hard pan
Overal the course was in good shape for winter time.
Greens were in good shape.
Tee boxes need lots of work
