Riverside Golf Club
About
Riverside Golf Club is appropriately named. The course sits in a floodplain along the Trinity River with water in play on seemingly every hole. This is a combination links-style/traditional layout that is surprisingly difficult for a municipal course. Great holes abound on the Roger Packard layout, which requires the rare combination of length and accuracy when playing from the tips.
Holes 4-6 offer one of the better stretches of golf, starting with a 462-yard par 4 that is cut in the landing area by pesky fairway bunkers, and features a long approach into an elevated green that is surrounded by water and slopes back-to-front. Club down on no. 4 because leaving it short still offers the chance for an up-and-down. No. 5 is a good par 3, especially from the middle tees where it generally plays as a short iron. Watch for the front pin placement, which can leave you with a long downhill putt if the tee shot is too long. Water looms to the right but it takes a bad shank to dunk it in the drink. No. 6 goes 543 yards, doglegging left along the Trinity with water fronting the green. The tee shot must be long and straight, and anything too far right leaves a precarious second shot around the bend.
The back side is the more fun of the two, taking you through good combinations of holes that offer excellent birdie opportunities if you’re on your game. You'll need those birds when you come down the home stretch.

Great condition for this time of year
The course boasts some of best greens I've played this whole winter. Overall the course is very enjoyable, especially for the money. Despite this round being fairly chilly, it was a great experience. Will definitely be back here in the near future.
Good value for the money
The crew was in a hurry to cover their greens because we were going to get Frost that night. But they patiently waited and did not rush us to get done.
Two Thumbs Up
For this time of year, course in great shape. Smooth and receptive greens, nice fairways. If we can only keep the Trinity River from tearing into the course, we can enjoy this gem for quite some time.
Shut Up Bundle Up And Tee Up
39 degrees. No one on the course but us. Wonderful!!! Greens were receptive to a good approach and rolled true. They were extremely fast down grain and broke hard if you babied a short putt.
Fairways were well maintained. I was very impressed with the bunkers (I was in three of them). Really good sand with the exception of the par four 15th. The fairway bunker sand is almost hard pan. There is a lot of erosion along the creek, so if you hit a shot near the edge, be careful.
Always fun to play.
Had a lot of rain a couple days prior. The course was still very playable except for the bunkers. Can't wait to go back again.
Early December and the greens were still perfect, tough course
First two times I played this course in the past week. Loved every part of it, the layout, the greens, everything *except the wind. If you don't hit the ball with control, there are a number of holes on this course that will devour your game.
This course has very tough par 3's, short par 4's that will test your game, and an awesome par 5 that is a true par 5 for anyone.
I played one day in the cold and 20 mph winds, the next day in perfect 50 degree windless day.
Great course very reasonable!
Our Group had a great time. Pace of play was slow however the weather was perfect. Number 18 will challenge even the best players. Golf course is in good shape.
Great condidtion
Blustery, sunny afternoon and course in superb shape-greens, fairways, bunkers and tee's. Tough track but a most enjoyable round. Folks in Clubhouse very nice and pace was great. GREAT value.
Enjoyable Round
Course was in great shape considering the lack of rain. Greens were superb and fairways/tee boxes fine. Pace was very good and staff friendly. Prices reasonable and an enjoyable round on a challenging track. Good value....
Nice Course, Pace of Play a little slow
I try to play this course a few times a year and have always enjoyed myself. The staff are nice, the course is in good shape and has sufficient challenges. The only downside is that they do not have a Marshall on the course and when the pace is slow, there is no one to get the slower golfers to move on.
Master of Dog Legs
The staff were friendly and helpful to everyone who entered the shop. The amenities were reasonably priced. Where else can you get a Hot dog and coke for two bucks? The course was tough the first day. A different challenge than other course's. Lots of dog legs that makes a person think strategically. Great course! The only drawback was the speed of play. A group of 5 held everyone behind them up. I went back the next day, and I played within 3 hours. I will play again on my next trip. I liked it so much, I bought a golf towel as a memento. Great team of folks!
Classic Course
Even with little rain inSeptember, the course is in good shape. Good fairways with few tight lies, greens were very consistent with no burn or weed spots.
Good value for the money, more wide open than courses with lots of trees and elevation changes.
A few groups got caught up because the course let a 5some play and they were being really slow. I bought the round from golf now which offered free range balls and a free sleeve of balls. When i got to the course they could not give me this deal and the guy was upset that i had asked for it. He had refunded the first transaction only to charge me the same thing again. I said I was ok with just the range balls and he gave me the smallest bucket. I figured he might give me the medium bucket for the hassel i went through and the fact he couldnt give me what i had paid for but he just gave a small. But i love the course when its only $20. But i had to pay $40 and it was not worth $40.
Enjoy this Course
The course has been in great shape the last 2 season. Has a good mixture of challenging holes. I won't mention any names but they have 1 staff member that is quite un-friendly. That is the only criticism
I'll be back
Booked the night before and arrived about 45 minutes before my tee time. When the sun finally broke I went and paid my fees at the pro shop and the employee was very nice and pointed out the practice areas and the first tee. I got a key and he said any cart and I could go out any time, went to grab a cart and the seats were all covered in morning few which was probably the only draw back of this round. Only a single and twosome out in front of me and they played at a good pace. Took a few pictures to show my pals back in California, wish I lived closer but I'll be back when I come to visit my children and grandchildren.
