Riverside Golf Club
About
Riverside Golf Club is appropriately named. The course sits in a floodplain along the Trinity River with water in play on seemingly every hole. This is a combination links-style/traditional layout that is surprisingly difficult for a municipal course. Great holes abound on the Roger Packard layout, which requires the rare combination of length and accuracy when playing from the tips.
Holes 4-6 offer one of the better stretches of golf, starting with a 462-yard par 4 that is cut in the landing area by pesky fairway bunkers, and features a long approach into an elevated green that is surrounded by water and slopes back-to-front. Club down on no. 4 because leaving it short still offers the chance for an up-and-down. No. 5 is a good par 3, especially from the middle tees where it generally plays as a short iron. Watch for the front pin placement, which can leave you with a long downhill putt if the tee shot is too long. Water looms to the right but it takes a bad shank to dunk it in the drink. No. 6 goes 543 yards, doglegging left along the Trinity with water fronting the green. The tee shot must be long and straight, and anything too far right leaves a precarious second shot around the bend.
The back side is the more fun of the two, taking you through good combinations of holes that offer excellent birdie opportunities if you’re on your game. You'll need those birds when you come down the home stretch.

Pro Shop and Starter Disaster
Had tee time @ 7:40am as I booked it two days prior since only one spot was open.
Once I checked in, I went down to tee box waiting on the other 3 players. A group drove up and said that they had the 7:40am tee time in which I told the that I was the fourth player. The group said that the pro shop added their fourth player and for me to play ahead. After I teed off, the starter said that he couldn’t let me go myself and would had to wait for an opening.
After 3 groups of four teed off in front of me after my tee time, the starter said that there 4 more groups of four and that I would be waiting a while. I told the starter that it was not right and I went back to pro shop.
I told the pro shop that I wanted my money back and he didn’t understand why it was a problem. The lack of common sense and golf courtesy is unacceptable.
I’ll be contacting the city and owner of golf course.
Good Value, Fun Course
I like this course. The ground was pretty hard and parts of the course are a bit rough as the course has had problems with being underwater from flooding at times. The holes are interesting with a lot of variety - dog legs, elevation changes, blind tee shots, risk/reward drives, etc. The greens were quick and in above average condition. I will play it again.
Not terrible
Honestly, still a challenging and fun course. Front 9 was good. Back 9....well it's been many years since I played here and they didn't have the erosion problem then on the three holes that they do now. I'm not sure how they could fix it but otherwise, it was a pretty fun round. Fortunately, their fees aren't anything crazy and pretty easy to book.
Interesting layout
Above average layout due to the very interesting and challenging layout. I’m glad that I joined up with a regular, otherwise it would have been very difficult playing here for the first time.
Not worth the green fee
The front nine was okay. Really tight as I expected but it was fine. The back nine well let's say it left much to be desired. It was extremely rough and not well maintained on holes 15 and 16 all tee boxes were together, the cart path had eroded away and was now a muddy track through the fairway. Hole 16 was quite literally 92 yards. It's fair to say that this course was NOT WORTH THE GREEN FEE. The driving range is also in the middle of three holes and you have to be very vigilant other wise you can quite easily be hit and also lose track of your ball.
solid course and solid price. Pretty tricky for a below average golfer like myself. Greens are pretty good and layout is fun.
Stay on target
This is a fun course with some challenging, unusual holes. Everything is set up off the drive on this course. You slice it and you could be in the water.
Number seven is a completely blind tee shot over the trees. You better hit a draw or your ball is over the fairway and down on a steep hill. Number 18 is a great finishing hole. You need an accurate tee shot and then a mid ironinto the green that’s surrounded by water.
Nice outing
Course was in decent shape considering we are in drought conditions. Pace of play was very slow
Could be great but...
the fairways are all pretty much dead and if you miss it, you will be hitting off hardpan (assuming it doesn't fall into a giant crack). I love a challenging course and this one is pretty tight with narrow fairways and small greens but they have a bunch of unnecessary bunkers that often times are positioned right int the middle of the fairway. And these bunkers are huge with hardly any rakes to be found so you will likely find yourself in a footprint. The staff is super friendly and the cart girl extremely nice but for $60, there are tons of other courses in better shape at cheaper prices.
