Legendary Oaks Golf Course
About
Legendary Oaks Golf Club is part of the Lawrence Marshall Family Recreation Center in Hempstead, about an hour northwest of Houston. Stretching to a lengthy 7,061 yards for the back tees, the course boasts several holes that long hitters will enjoy. The layout's par 3s are known to be particularly challenging. The golf course will put your distance to the test but you'll find that accuracy is also needed when negotiating the tighter spots on the course. Water hazards come into play frequently throughout the golf course and there are also many strategically placed bunkers and mature trees to watch out for. Legendary Oaks Golf Club's final hole is a par 4 that demands a tee shot over water while a large willow tree guards the left side and a bunker protects the right. The challenges continue on the uphill second shot.

Recreation
The course is in pretty good shape. The layout is good, especially the par 5’s, making you become a bit cautious over the next shot. It is really enjoying, getting out & getting some good exercise. Although, the greens are on their down cycle from winter freezes, enjoyable.
Waste of money
I hate to be this guy but played there today with a buddy of mine who lives a mile away from the course it was flat out embarrassing to pay 50 something bucks a man to play a course that is in as bad of shape as this place is. Crab grass out of control everywhere including the greens buildings run down ponds are nasty bunkers not tended to no balls on the range general management and facilities are run down to the point of just needing to start over. If Marshall knew how his pride and joy looked today he would turn over in his grave almost a disgrace to the game it was flat terrible and to charge 50 something bucks a person they should be ashamed I’ve played this course probably 6 times in 2 years and continues to go farther down hill every time I go! SAVE YOUR MONEY AND FIND ANOTHER COURSE!
What greens?
I enjoy playing this course but $50 is a little pricey for the condition of the greens. The Marshall said it was because of the cold winter but I played about 20 minutes closer to Houston the weekend prior and the greens were amazing. TAKE CARE OF YOU COURSE AND PEOPLE WILL SPEND THE $50.
Greens without grass
I saw the putting green was without grass and thought they must be resurfacing. Nope most greens were 90% no grass!
Great value, terrible greens
I play this course often, and it’s a great value. I will play again this month, as part of my rotation, and I hope they can get there grass to grow on the greens. Unfortunately it is basically just dirt/sand mixture for 90% of the greens. Maybe had a disease that went untreated? Either way, still a playable course, just don’t bring your putter.
Good course that needs help
I have been playing this course for numerous years and through numerous grounds keepers. This is by far the worst I have ever seen this course. There is no grass on the greens, the tee boxes are sloped and uneven. The bunkers are nothing more than hard packed kiddie sand that stays wet and does not drain. The cost has been the only reason to continue to play but even that is no longer reasonable for the poor course conditions.
Poor condition
The course is in very poor condition. Tee boxes overgrown and uneven and bathrooms are extremely dirty and rundown.
Love this course, but......
I have played Legendary Oaks several times before, and love it there, but the grounds need to be better tended to, as in the greens. Although the greens were flat there was either sand/fertilizer or something. Other than that like I said I love this course.
Greens are non existent
So I know we had a freeze in February but this was just sad. There literally was no grass on multiple greens. They had recently been sanded but not aerated so it was sand on top of wet dirt. The bunkers were not raked or were wet from the over watering of the course. Usually play here twice a month or so but I think it's time to move on, which is sad because it is actually a fun course to.play. They really need to find a good greenskeeper and get it back into playing shape
What a green?
This place was used to be good for the beginners. The green and fairway were not bad for the price, but I found the green unplayable yesterday.
Is it under construction?
I thought I play in the dessert.
Come on Man
Recommend not going on Tuesdays. Evidently it is Senior Day and they allow 5 people to play for a group. If you are a twosome, behind a five-some, good luck playing through.
The “greens” are not greens, they are browns.
Hitting out of the fairway requires goats to find your ball.
There is only one restroom on the course, watch out if you try to go to the woods to relieve yourself around hole 16. They have binoculars and someone will approach you to remind you where the bathroom is.
The staff is not very hospitable and there is no amenities.
Also, if you reserve a Veteran tee time, make sure you show your ID before paying because the staff will not allow a refund for the overpayment. A $30 tab ended up being $84.00. They also over charged us being that the staff member made me pay after my partner already paid for both us. Absolutely ridiculous. They need better management.
Prairie Golf
I took a chance with a $30 fee and drove 35 miles to play this course on the side of a freeway in TX. The course is not being maintained with barely any difference between fairway and rough turf. Basically it’s a bunch of weeds with some grass in between. The greens were a mix of paint, sand and fertilizer. That being said, I played in 2.5 hrs and saw about 6 others on the course. I did see some newer homes being built in the unaffiliated community surrounding the course. Maybe the new residents will claim the course and revitalize it. The bones are there, it just needs a proper manager team.
If you're used to greens that have grass.. don't come here
I played this course due to not booking a tee time early enough for the weekend in Houston. In all honestly I do not know how there can be good reviews for this course as it was by far the worst course conditions I've ever seen.
The greens were made almost entirely of sand with little spots of grass on them all of which rolled at completely different speeds. The fairways were just dirt with some weeds on them. The bunkers had less sand than the greens, and there wasn't a level surface to be seen on any of the tee boxes.
The pace of play was terrible, having to wait 10 minutes of some holes. There was a course ranger but they didn't seem to do anything about the pace. The driving range was OK but the balls were old enough to have seen the first moon landing.
One positive was the staff were friendly and helpful, which is the only reason I can offer an extra star in my rating.
I understand that this isn't a city course with lots of people paying good money to play but unfortunately it is still not worth $50.
Greenness course
It's kind of pointless to sand the greens when there is no or very little grass on them. The course as it stands today is a 18 hole driving range.
