Legendary Oaks Golf Course
About
Legendary Oaks Golf Club is part of the Lawrence Marshall Family Recreation Center in Hempstead, about an hour northwest of Houston. Stretching to a lengthy 7,061 yards for the back tees, the course boasts several holes that long hitters will enjoy. The layout's par 3s are known to be particularly challenging. The golf course will put your distance to the test but you'll find that accuracy is also needed when negotiating the tighter spots on the course. Water hazards come into play frequently throughout the golf course and there are also many strategically placed bunkers and mature trees to watch out for. Legendary Oaks Golf Club's final hole is a par 4 that demands a tee shot over water while a large willow tree guards the left side and a bunker protects the right. The challenges continue on the uphill second shot.

Greens are starting to get a little better but still have too many bare spots - sand bunkers hold water and don’t have enough sand - they are unplayable
Golf Range
I simply went to practice at the range. The machine that distributes the golf balls accepts debit pay. I bought a bucket, but nothing was dispensed. Thinking I made a mistake, I tried again. Same result. Packed my clubs and went to the clubhouse. Explained what happened and the attendant simply said, "It should be full." She gave me two tokens for a later date, but this isn't the first time this has happened. Also took a look at a few of the greens as I passed by, and I noticed a lot of brown patching. It was a rainy June in the area, so I was a bit surprised to see the greens in that condition. It's the one course that doesn't cost an arm and leg to play, so I suppose you get what you pay for.
Legendary Oaks in Hempstead, TX
As long as you're not expecting immaculate fairways and greens, you'll enjoy Legendary Oaks! One of the less expensive places to play around the Houston area. Each hole is named by a Bible thought, which I really like.
Good
Other than the greens and sand traps the course is good. Most greens have more sand than the traps do.
Bang 4 Your Buck
This was a great track, and easy to play. It’s a great overall course and the price makes it even better.
This course is poorly maintained
They are working to restore the greens that have been in poor shape - on some of the greens you have to putt over bare spots - most of the bunkers hold water and have more clay than sand - there are plenty of bare dirt spots on the fairways - at least they have been mowing regularly.
Needs improvement
I only play this course when I can get a hot deal. Otherwise it is not worth it. Greens are bad. Bunkers are mud ponds.
Work in Progress
They are working on the course and I see vast improvements. Hope they keep it up but enjoyed the day
Greens are in rough shape.
Coarse is awesome and challenging but greens are not in good shape.
Fun semi-serious practice course
Course is nestled in a great rural setting. Not well-maintained but there had also been a lot of recent rain so that affected their ability to mow. Many of the greens are in horrible shape but I didn’t care as I just counted a 2 putt max. I would definitely go back mainly because of the value, the staff, and the rural setting. Enjoyable experience overall.
Greens are bad!
Greens are not good, not sure what happened! Dirt, sand, grass, bumpy not smooth. Easy to 3 putt. I'm confident they will get them back in good shape but it will take some time. Hit in sand trap, take a free drop, most in bad shape.
Great layout
Course is trying to improve the bunkers but something has messed up most of the greens - looks like they sprayed grass killer instead of weed killer!
Gem and in Progress
This course is a real gem and seem like they are in progress to make it get the next level.
Just love the place, the friendly staff and the contact with the nature.
If you're houston native and love the sport, then you will understand how hard is to get a pristine course in summer and all year long, this course is in great shape and playable conditions.
Very recommendable.
Fun for Rec Golf not much more
All grass was in pretty rough shape, and greens were really bad. Still a nice course to course to hit some balls, but if youbare looking to improve this is not the place to go. Should be cheaper for the condition that the course is in
Bad greens
Pretty much playing in cow pasture land. The bunker had fresh sand but not weedeated. Great lay out tho.. pace of play was slow too.
