Legendary Oaks Golf Course
About
Legendary Oaks Golf Club is part of the Lawrence Marshall Family Recreation Center in Hempstead, about an hour northwest of Houston. Stretching to a lengthy 7,061 yards for the back tees, the course boasts several holes that long hitters will enjoy. The layout's par 3s are known to be particularly challenging. The golf course will put your distance to the test but you'll find that accuracy is also needed when negotiating the tighter spots on the course. Water hazards come into play frequently throughout the golf course and there are also many strategically placed bunkers and mature trees to watch out for. Legendary Oaks Golf Club's final hole is a par 4 that demands a tee shot over water while a large willow tree guards the left side and a bunker protects the right. The challenges continue on the uphill second shot.

DO NOT PLAY THE COURSE!
The course itself was in poor condition, but the larger issue was the conduct of the staff. Before we had even teed off on the first hole, staff members were immediately confrontational, warning my family that we would be removed from the course if we left the cart path on par-3 holes. This interaction occurred prior to play and set an unnecessarily hostile tone.
Upon reaching the first green, we were approached again, this time for an alleged slow pace of play. This accusation was unfounded, as there were two slow groups directly ahead of us, and we were consistently waiting for them before playing our shots. Despite this, the course ranger walked directly onto the green and proceeded to confront my wife and children individually. During this interaction, the ranger made inappropriate and demeaning comments, telling them they were “bad players” and that this was a “bad day for bad players to be on the course.” This behavior was unacceptable, particularly toward children, and crossed any reasonable standard of professionalism.
Given the repeated harassment and unprofessional conduct, we returned to the clubhouse and requested a refund. Even then, we were met with further dismissive and unprofessional behavior from the front-desk staff, which only ceased after we requested to speak with the owner.
The owner ultimately acknowledged that the staff’s behavior was inappropriate and issued a refund. While this resolution was appreciated, the experience itself left a lasting negative impression. The reputation this course has created within the Hempstead community cannot be repaired without meaningful changes, including addressing staff conduct and leadership expectations. Until those issues are corrected, this course will remain an example of how not to treat guests.
Great day at Legendary
Today was an above par day for Legendary Oaks!!!
The rough was cut and finding your ball was fairly easy today… greens were soft but still rolled about 7 or 8 , making putts a bit easier to sink… Legendary is sometimes like a slot machine , never know what you may get…
Today it was great day !!!
Thank you !!!
Losing value
The course is drying out in tee boxes and fairways - badly. The greens have black spots all over them. It has been mowed and maintained like that but is getting in rough shape. The course way over booked and has no marshal to set pace of play. It took way too long - 4.5 hours spent mostly waiting to take my next shot.
It’s a good “practice” course if you pay less than $25 - otherwise, the extra drive to get here makes other courses more reasonable in the mid $30’s range.
Pace of play
No marshal pushing people on a Sunday we were a four sum getting held up by three 2s make that make sense. Tee box’s are bad and greens are bad.
Best Staff!
Jordyn and Gabby are incredibly friendly and welcoming. The course has come a long way in just the few months I’ve been playing it.
Good Value
I played there for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised. The people working there are nice and helpful rather than some stuffy Marshalls at other courses. For the price, it’s a decent course to play a round at. The greens were well maintained and clean. I would play there again.
Great potential just needs alot of consistent maintenance and time
I read several negative reviews and was very nervous about playing here. I was pleasantly surprised it wasn't as bad as I thought. Greens were very slow and areas needing alot of repair, but pin placements were good so you didnt have to play through the bad stuff, or you could just move your ball to avoid it. Bunkers were unplayable, no sand and alot of standing water. Fairways needed mowed, weeds needed killing. Overall would play again since the pricing is affordable. Carts are clean and work great. They need someone to buy this place and invest some money into it.
Great potential, bad execution.
The Good: This course is on a beautiful piece of property and has a great layout. The set up for the holes isn’t extremely challenging and has some scenic bonuses that come with it. This is a country side course that has long views and open fairways.
The Bad: first the staff isn’t hostile but for a course that is as ran down as this one they can be pretty uptight. We tried to have 5 play during the afternoon and were told we weren’t allowed to play 5 even with the course being empty. The greens are under HEAVY repair, making it difficult to tell the fringe from the green in some places. Also the tee boxes are so hard that they could be made out of concrete. The head of the greens keepers is always rude as all get out. Just cause you work on the golf course doesn’t mean you can approach someone disrespectfully to correct them. I’m sorry we parked our cart on the “fairway” which is a dirt road on the 6th hole and not on “the cart path” which is a strip of broken concrete. Worst part about this course is they raised the prices and to 40 a round during the week and 50 on the weekends. Also there is no walking price, you’re forced to pay for a cart even if you want to walk.
Overall this course has great potential but instead of trying to find ways to get more traffic and more business we will strong hand the customers that do show up. Course design is great, and it’s lame it’s let down by the people running it.
Legendary Oaks
The course was in bad shape, the pro shop and bathrooms were also in poor condition and it appears there is very little maintenance being done on the course and facilities. There were nice homes surrounding the course and I bet those home owners are pretty upset with the condition of the course. I won’t be going back.
