Legendary Oaks Golf Course
About
Legendary Oaks Golf Club is part of the Lawrence Marshall Family Recreation Center in Hempstead, about an hour northwest of Houston. Stretching to a lengthy 7,061 yards for the back tees, the course boasts several holes that long hitters will enjoy. The layout's par 3s are known to be particularly challenging. The golf course will put your distance to the test but you'll find that accuracy is also needed when negotiating the tighter spots on the course. Water hazards come into play frequently throughout the golf course and there are also many strategically placed bunkers and mature trees to watch out for. Legendary Oaks Golf Club's final hole is a par 4 that demands a tee shot over water while a large willow tree guards the left side and a bunker protects the right. The challenges continue on the uphill second shot.

$5 charge stupid
Good course for the money. Slow play on Tuesday because the senior crowd comes out that morning. They like to take their time.
A little stupid they charge $5 extra if you are by yourself. Not my fault I don’t know anyone to play along with.
Great value
Great Value. New owner is working hard to improve everything but it will take some time. The greens are in decent shape and due to the rain a few days before, the fairways were in reasonable condition. The bunkers need a lot of work, but he can’t do everything at once. All in all it is a great value and I always enjoy going there. The staff is excellent, very friendly and they will do everything to accommodate you.
Only option in the area
Greens are in pretty good shape and can’t complain much about them. Fairways and tee boxes are average. The lady in the pro shop was not very welcoming. I felt like I was doing the course a disservice by paying to play there after being welcomed by her when checking in.
Extremely show pace of play for 10AM on a Sunday. Two gentlemen had their 3 very young sons playing with them, riding on the hood of their golf cart from time to time. Probably should play on a 9 hole par 3 course until the kids are older. There was a sixsome playing ahead of us and a course marshall playing with a fivesome behind us. Range balls are poor at best.
Terribly slow. 12 minute wait on every hole had to leave
Incredibly slow pace on the front 9. No marshal checking pace coming in on the 9th or 18th. Every course should check their players pace and offer help.
Great Course
I’ve been golfing here for over two decades. You cannot beat a better rate for great course. Right now the greens are looking the best they have in years. Fairways are smooth and will reward you for hitting them. It can get busy during the weekend and will get over booked sometimes. I recommend playing during the week if at all possible. A little more water during spring and summer this course will be fantastic.
Excellent value
About the only course left in operation in the Austin county area. Great value. Conditions could be better but for the price it is hard to complain to much.
a good course to play for the value. Not too far outside of Houston area. Decent playing surface. I will return to play more rounds
Same ole course
Course was in decent shape like always. Greens are a little fuzzy but for the price it is an excellent value. Pace of play was good. Layout is fun and each hole is different for the most part. The old lady in the pro shop was still her grouchy self. It’s amazing how she still has a job. I’ve been golfing here for years and she has literally never once been pleasant to deal with.
Pleasantly surprized
For the price point this is a terrific course.
Right now there is good grass in the fairways,
Greens are a bit bumpy and slow, but once you get use to them its all good.
I understand there is a new owner, I hope they put some money into this course. It could be a diamond in the ruff with the right course management, and green keeper.
Good course, but bunkers need to repair
Overall good experience with exception of the one of their employees - the older lady at the reception who was rude to me and to other customers including one member. Being friendly cost nothing so this is certainly the easiest step for the course to improved. The course conditions could have been better. Bunkers have practically no soft sand, hard as dirt and full of water which doesn't soak. Fairways and greens are ok, but nowhere near the quality of for example Moody Gardens. Course layout is probably the best asset. Very nice and interesting holes and beautiful landscape of rural Texas. It is also very affordable so it is a good value for the money.
Back 9 invasion
Great front 9. Back 9 suffered from an invasion of random golf carts "touring" the course - on cart paths and crossing fairways. Seems management turned loose carts of non-golfing pre-teens and others from a reception room party. They should have closed the course if they were going to do that. A kid cart ran into trees, others drove across fairways while tee shots were in flight, and drove up to us (from both directions) while preparing to play shots from near the cart path. Will ask if trandom roaming is going to happen again before booking another early afternoon week-end tee time at LO.
This course is in great shape.
This course is a good place to play. The greens are in excellent condition. Great course for the money.
Family Time
Played with my family it was a great place for a family. My wife and daughter are learning the game and we had a blast. Played late afternoon so we didn't get in anyone's way. The staff was great. We will be back.
Flat and Boring
I have NEVER been charged an additional $5 cart fee just because I was a single. When my playing partner arrived a little late, instead of calling me back to the clubhouse (20 yds away) to pair us up and refund it to me, they charged him an additional $5 also. It didn’t matter since we never saw the cart girl until the 18th fairway.
The greens were rough from the poa annua peaking through the Bermuda. Not that they had been mowed recently. I bet they stimped at 6. And signs everywhere for cart path only? The grass and grounds were as hard as a rock. No reason for that and no one payed any attention.
First Sunday in May
Course continues to improve. Greens were a little slow but in great condition
