Legendary Oaks Golf Course
About
Legendary Oaks Golf Club is part of the Lawrence Marshall Family Recreation Center in Hempstead, about an hour northwest of Houston. Stretching to a lengthy 7,061 yards for the back tees, the course boasts several holes that long hitters will enjoy. The layout's par 3s are known to be particularly challenging. The golf course will put your distance to the test but you'll find that accuracy is also needed when negotiating the tighter spots on the course. Water hazards come into play frequently throughout the golf course and there are also many strategically placed bunkers and mature trees to watch out for. Legendary Oaks Golf Club's final hole is a par 4 that demands a tee shot over water while a large willow tree guards the left side and a bunker protects the right. The challenges continue on the uphill second shot.

Great course
Course was in great shape, but they always run out of carts and we have to wait for them. We teed off 40 minutes late.
Weekend Nightmare
I have been playing this course 3-4 per month for the last few years. It is close by and a convenient place to play. However, as of the past few months, management has lost all control over the course. They do not take or honor tee times, walk up players are allowed to come in anytime and tee off at will whether there are openings or not. This has resulted in extremely slow play, ignorant players that have little or no respect for the game and the marshals have zero effect on play. Management allows this to continue time and time again. Perhaps reviews such as this will get management's attention.
To their credit, they have poured a lot of money into the course over the last few years and the resulting increase in play is great, BUT, in the long run they are going to lose players and therefore cash flow if they do not start enforcing course rules and etiquette.
While I would love to recommend this course to folks, I can no longer do that until things change for the better of the customer.
I found "Sleeping Beauty"
Was asked to fill in for someone. The course is about an hour away from my house and never heard good things about the course so I wasn't inclined to drive that far for a mediocre course. It was quite a drive but I was rewarded with a challenging course in good condition. I ended up having a very enjoyable afternoon and intent to tell my friends that this place is a sleeper. You may have to pack a lunch for the trip there - but you will be rewarded once you get there. I'd give it a solid 4+ in my book. I'm anxious to return.
This course has everything you want.
This course is a good test for the average golfer. It has some demanding teeshots, and many of the holes have water hazards, out of bounds or both. All the par 3's are fairly long especially from the blue tee's. The course is in good condition and the greens are great, not too fast, not too slow and the ball seems to roll very smothly. I especially like the practice range. Good targets, good turf and a very nice chipping green.
Golf Now Deal
Paid online and they had an additional charge. Also they had a tournament going which delayed pace of play. The course is okay, but poor management. I am not planning on playing here anymore.
Pleasnt surprise
This course is a little jewel. It's well kept and several holes are quite challenging. I was expecting a goat ranch but was surprised to find a quality daily fee course. Fairways were green and maintained. The greens ran true, although they don't have a lot of inundations. Good deal for the money and worth a short drive from my home in Cypress
Great course
This course is in fantastic shape and the greens are really good.
Pleasantly Surprised
Have been wanting to play there for some time but just wasn't sure what kind of course it was. Decided to finally play and it was a pleasant surprise. From any tee box it would it would be a good challenge.
Mass improvements
i have played here several times because i enjoy the lay out and little bit of challenge to the course but wasn't always in the best of shape, particularly the fairways, but was good for the money. Went yesterday and when i hit the course i was in total shock as to the improvements made to the course. the fairways were thick and plush with good grass you would expect from a golf course. Ball set up nicely. even the rough was mowed and easily playable. the greens were near perfect too. Staff is always friendly as usual. (watch out for the terrifying dogs when you walk into the clubhouse. LOL J/K. cute little buggers!)
Unexpected gem
We wanted to play a different course off of the beaten path. I looked online and found Legendary Oaks. I did not expect much out of a course in Hempstead, but I was very wrong. Upon arrival and just glancing at the course, we thought we would eat this course up. Ohhhhhh how wrong we were. This course was much longer than expected, and much more hazardous than expected. Hole 6 is a great hole. It is a par 5 with a mote around the green. If you make it in two you need to be on the tour. There is no way to stop your ball on the green with your second shot. If you make par you have done well. If you birdie the hole, you have done something special. Course is in fantastic condition for July. Fairways are well kept and the greens are spectacular. It is a short drive, and well woth the price.
Pleasant Surprise!
I've seen this course many times passing through on the way to Brenham and Austin and wanted to play it one day. My expectations were minimal as it received a 3.3/5 stars on Golfnow. I was very surprised on how good the course was. The greens were superb and rolled very true. The fairways were excellent and the rough was fair. The bunkers had fine sand in them which made getting out of them a challenge. There was even a maintenance guy on a green picking small weeds off the fringe. I did play on a Saturday afternoon and there many have been about 5 groups on the course. The layout had a mixture of wide open driving holes to drives where you have to play a precise shot. The Par 5 6th was interesting. You can get home in two with two good shots, but the green is basically an island as they have dug a small trench around the green with about 3 feet of water acting as the hazard. The par 4 15th is a sweet hole with a creek running just in front of the green. The creek is part of a stone lined creek that cuts through the middle of the course. Like many solid courses, it has a great mixture of par 3, 4's and 5's. The course is score-able if you can avoid the 6 or 7 holes that can bite you if you lose focus. If you want to play a weekend round on a good golf course and want to avoid the packed courses in Houston, a short drive to Hempstead to play Legendary Oaks would be a great option.
Great place to play!
The course is challenging and well kept. Far enough from town so you can enjoy the peace and quiet.
Great Course for the Price.
This is a great course for any type of golfer. There are some challenging holes and there are some fairly easy holes. The greens are in good shape for the most part but you can tell there is also a lot of sand from over sanding in some parts. The only downfall is the bugs in the area. Make sure you bring bug spray. The knats are horrible. The front desk luckily had some spray for everyone to use. Overall great day of golf.
Good little place to play
Course was in overall good condition. Fairways were a little overgrown but I really think it had been too wet for them to mow. For a $23 round it was well worth the money. I will be going back, and hope they have he fairways mowed if we ever dry out.
Mother's Day
Played on Mother's Day afternoon and the pace of play was great. Hardly any other people playing. Course was in good shape considering all of the recent rain.
A nice country course find in Hempstead
I have played this course several times & it is starting to improve condition wise. The fairways have slope to them...either uphill or downhill & not easy to judge distances on some approach shots...I like this visual uncertainty. I came up short on par 5 & ended up in the water on 3rd shot to green, and wondered how. Once on the green I looked back at the fairway & realized just how much uphill it was. Considering all the rain we have had lately, the grass was high, and the greens have suffered abit. Once the summertime rolls around, it should be in great shape. Only 40 minutes from Cypress...all freeway. The $5 single cart fee is bogus though. Fun course.
Great course for the price
Played an afternoon round for $13 with a hot deal. Weather was perfect, mid-70's, light wind, and not a cloud in sight. Fairways are bare in spots and hard as a rock right now, but not bad for the middle of February. I'm normally about a 240-250 yard driver and got several near 300 with roll. Greens were in pretty good shape and putting a lot faster than the practice green which took a couple of holes to adjust to. Only real negative this round was they were resanding the greenside bunkers so couldn't play out of a few of those, but can't complain about course maintenance.
This course isn't anything special, just a good place to play if you are a beginner, bad at golf, or trying to tweak your swing.
