Legendary Oaks Golf Course
About
Legendary Oaks Golf Club is part of the Lawrence Marshall Family Recreation Center in Hempstead, about an hour northwest of Houston. Stretching to a lengthy 7,061 yards for the back tees, the course boasts several holes that long hitters will enjoy. The layout's par 3s are known to be particularly challenging. The golf course will put your distance to the test but you'll find that accuracy is also needed when negotiating the tighter spots on the course. Water hazards come into play frequently throughout the golf course and there are also many strategically placed bunkers and mature trees to watch out for. Legendary Oaks Golf Club's final hole is a par 4 that demands a tee shot over water while a large willow tree guards the left side and a bunker protects the right. The challenges continue on the uphill second shot.

Golfer Reviews
Love This Place!
I've been playing here for years now and for the most part this course continues to improve as time goes on. Unfortunately this year the greens were ruined while trying to get rid of weeds that had infected them, so they added a LOT of sand to them and for the most part were unplayable. They are slowly growing back in now but it still makes putting very frustrating. The layout of the course gives most holes a little character to make your round a little more difficult than you might want it, but it's still a great course to play! I would love better fairways but it's not a deal killer. I will continue to play here hopefully for many more years!
Avoid This Course If You live Golf!!
If you are a mid to low handicapper and you love and respect the game of golf, avoid this course. First of all, the course is right on the highway, which makes it accessible. But then you get to the course and from the club house, you ar faced with extremely poor qualify. The Staff is very unfriendly (one grumpy old lady) who have no clue about the game and treats you with disrespect.
The greens are not mowed, with aseveral bad batches and (no grass) spots. It is horrible. Then they have the audacity to charge $35 to $40. The one plus is the pace of play is fast, that's because it's not often crowded...well, now we know why.
It's a course with great potential in the hands of poor investors. If I could afford it, I would buy the course, shut it down for 1 year and redo the greens, fairway bunkers and some of the fairways. I would revamp the club house and fire the Staff, bringing in a real golf pro to manage it properly. They I would then reopen the course and increase the rates from $35 to $55 or $60. What a waste of land!
And oh yes, better carry your own drinks...there are no cart girls.
Very bear
The fairways were sparse in some places but ok in others. however all the greens were bear and in bad condition. looks as thought they have not been watering them. Real shame as I have seen the course in much better condition. very disappointed
Very nice for the money...
Just need to work on the greens, they were very tough to putt on, otherwise I enjoyed playing the course
Sandy , sand everywhere!!
Really terrible greens,extra sandy.
This place needs to water the whole course!!
Interesting layout
The greens were heavily sanded but guess it is to be expected at this time of the year.
Course is more of a challenge then we expected but had a great time! We will be back!
Bugged
There is a $5 charge for single rider that nobody else charges. It is stated in notes, but most don't read the notes. While they were writing that note, they should have annotated that the greens were being sanded. This is important as I would have gone elsewhere rather than trekked 50 miles. I have played this course many times and there have been some changes, good and bad. The first par 5 used to be an unfair par 4. Now it is a challenging par 5. Good job. The second par 5 was an easy par 5 but is now more interesting, except that the green is ill-conceived with a unsightly moat surrounding it. This is not kept up and just aesthetically terrible. They could fix this by filling in with sand and still keep the hole challenging. The worst part of the round were swarms of large gnats that plagued the entire course. There were also the ubiquitous "love bugs." But the midgies, as I call them, made it impossible to concentrate as they constantly pestered me. There is not much they can do about this, but I'm just warning you if you go out there now. Overall, the course is in fairly good condition for a rural course, and there are some really nice holes. So, if you get a really good Hot Deal go out there. Just take the bug spray.
Good Experience
Pace of play was excellent, the layout of the course was nice. The greens had sand all over them, therefore they weren't in the best condition. Great value for what it cost, will go back again.
Greens are Dead
Really enjoy Legendary Oaks normally. Course is fun, staff is nice and pace of play is good. On Saturday all 18 greens were brown not from sanding but from poisoning weeds thus killing the greens.. Not sure why they would kill the greens which were great in October. I didn't take pictures because I like this course and do not want to be ugly but it was very disappointing to not have grass on any of the greens in a record rainfall year.
Pace of play is good.
Little country course that's fun to play. Price is good. People are friendly. Good time we will try to play once a month or more.
Enjoyable Round With Friends
I have played this course 6-8 times and each time was very enjoyable.
Great layout if you play a fade
We didn't know what to expect when playing this course, but were pleasantly surprised. The greens started ou a little slow, but that was mostly due to the damp conditions. They actually played pretty well for this time of year. The fairways were in good condition and the hazards made the course fun. Nice layout and good for all levels of players. Thanks
Not worth the drive from Houston
The course might have been nice 10-20 years ago, but needs some work now, especially the greens. Not going back.
Pleasant day
I always enjoy playing this course and have recommended many friends. The course in good shape however the greens could use some TLC
Good value
I like the course and staff. This is a very pleasant, country place to play.
Nice comfortable course. Trouble on the front nine with lots of water but the back nine was less difficult. Great placement of the women's tees. That made the course easier for me to compete with my husband. We will go back.
Legendary
This course is a simple straight forward test of ball placement. Opon first glance it appears to be a wide open grip it and rip it course. Then you do to find someone placed a hazard in the spot your aiming at. On this day I had a 15-20 mph north cold wind to deal with that seemed to do everything but help my ball get to the green. As a first timer that is use to a scorecard in the mid 90's this day was the worst beat down of 104 on a new course so far. I was mentally and physically drained knowing why this beautiful place is legendary. It will legendarily kick your butt if you do not pick the correct club and shot on each of the holes. Can not wait until I get to drive 1 hr each way to take the challenge on again. With my golfnow hot deal of $12 this was definitely worth the $12 in additional gas.
Course is a little rough!
Extremely windy day, had a difficult time adjusting shots. It is "winter" so grass was more dirt than grass so the ball would roll a ways. Back 9 layout better than the front 9, still a good way to spend a warm Christmas Day!
As of now, we will play somewhere else, greens are in bad shape, fairways are bare in many places and very little grass to hit from. It will take a while for the entire course to come back. Last summer it was in great shape, but winter and rain took its toll.
